2010 White Running Backs

JM has been injured since week 2. High ankle sprain, but has played all but 1 game. OL is one of the worst in the country. Even with Joe hurt, they didn't replace him, choosing to go wildcat to add the extra blocker. Although his stats are disappointing, he's showed he's a pretty tough guy.
True freshman Dodd has replaced Savage, both are getting killed due to crappy line. Dodd did have a big night Sat. though.

Zach Line has been a joy to watch this year. I will say this though. It's not fair to criticise McGuffie too much as he is on one of the worst teams in the nation. They are just awful on both sides of the ball. The fact that Sam has over 800 yards is very impressive to me. I want both of these guys to get a chance top lay on Sundays. Even Line is only on a team that is average. Imagine if you put him behind a great offensive line. He would probably have 1600 yards by now. Almost 1200 is amazing though. I'm very proud of all of the guys on this list.

Next year should be the year that Rex Burkhead becomes a household name. I see him having a huge year and possibly leading the conference in rushing!

Between the play calling and terrible offensive line play, I'm surprised Sam has as many yards as he does. Hopefully things will improve next season and Sam will get around 1,500 yards. He could have an otherworldly performance (173+ yards) this week against UAB and break 1,000. I doubt that will happen, but it never hurts to hope!

Its a shame Army didn't let Jared Hassin run the ball more this season. He had 3 games with less than 10 touches. He should have easily broken 1,000, but you can't do it if you don't have the opportunity. He still needs just 119+ yards to go over 1,000, but I don't know if that will happen against Navy.

i don't know if any of you guys are aware of this (even though we've mentioned Zach Line quite a bit this year), so i thought i'd share ...

Zach Line (1,297 yards rushing in 12 games)has run for more yards this year than any other college running back EVER coached by June Jones. not too shabby for a kid who was only recruited to play linebacker (even by SMU).

and Line likely still has two more games left this year: the Conference USA championship game and a bowl game.

also, Lineis theConference USA leader in rushing ... by quite a wide margin.

Great stats Jimmy. I wasn't aware of that. Maybe it will help a long time Caste Supporter Coach like JUne Jones to give future kids a chance. What a season this kid has had. I hope he is opening a few scouts eyes in the NFL. I imagine most will say bad things about him because he is white and he doen't play in a tough enough conference. It sure didn't help Jacob Hester any though as he has been stuck at full back for years despite rushing for over 1000 yards in the S.E.C.

Let's try to stay positive though. Zach Line has all the tools needed to be a quality running back at the next level. He just needs to chance to shine. I'm hoping that Hillis and Woodhead are paving the way for these young white running backs.

I have to say though that things have been looking a little better. If you take away what happened with Joe Martinek and Brandon Wegher, it's been a good year. It may not compare to what Toby Gerhart did last season but Line has had a hell of a season anyway. I was very happy to see Rex Burkhead run 19 times for 101 yards and a td helping Nebraska to win the Big 12 North Title again. Who would have thought that Nebraska would ever give a white guy a chance to run the ball after screwing over Josh Davis and never recruiting Woodhead. Well they finally did and Burkhead is a legitimate star. He should really become a household name even more next year as Helu will be gone.

I hope McGuffie has another big game today. As another poster said, it's still possible for him to get to 1000 yards with a monster game. Going into next year, McGuffie, and Burkhead will still have two years left and Wegher should be back with 3 years of eligibility left!

Cole Beasley leads SMU in receptions, is second on the team in receiving yards,and is (i think) fifth in Conference USA in receiving yards. perhaps after having some relative success with several White and non-black players at Hawaii and now at SMU, Jones will continue to look for talented White athletes.

Zach Line had a something of a down day today, as did the entire Mustang team, but he still managed to lead the game in rushing with 19 carries for 97 yards. Line now has 1,394 yards on the season, if my math is right. That puts him third on the single season rushing list, just behind Eric Dickerson's Junior and Senior seasons. Line has done better than any Sophomore back in school history and is already 19th on the all time career rushing list! With a decent performance in the bowl game, he'll likely be 17th all time as a Sophomore. Hopefully Zach will get even better over the next two seasons.

What a season for Line. I watched the game and he would have had alot more yards if the mustangs weren't behind the whole game. They had to pass to try and get back in the game. It's too bad. He had a very nice game! This kid is special. I just hope the NFL takes notice over the next couple of years. I'm glad he is a sophmore. Their qb was in his first year starting as well.

Eric Breitenstien from Wofford rushed for 178 yards on 28 carries 2 TD's(36,3) and longest run of 48...in a 17-14 Win over Jacksonville St in theFCS Playoffs today...














Sorry to have missed Zach Line play today..I think he's emerging on the NFL radar...some poor-man Toby Gerhart comparisions could be on the horizon??

Matt Szczur cranking it up! After a slow start rushing (3 carries 4 yds) now has 9 for 68 including a long of 37; and 11 receptions for 128 and 51 yard TD!! Still alot of time left in 4th qtr...Big time players step it up!

Padron was a disaster today. It was clear UCF didn't fear the pass at all.
Consider Line's situation. UCF constantly brought extra men up to the line. Since SMU runs the standard spread formation, Line was getting the ball while standing still (no running start), five yards deep, with 5-7 men bearing down on him. Under those circumstances, I think 97 yards is an MVP performance. He didn't have a down day. He excelled.

I knew (and I presume his coaches knew) UCF was going to load the box against him and despite it he gained almost 100 yards. He did have a lower YPC than he's had in all but 3 games, his actual rushing yardage was about average, no TDs, no catches and his team lost. Statistically Zach did have somewhat of a down day, but he was going against a very good defense. It would have been great to see him get some blocking and more touches. I think the outcome may have been different if he had.

South Carolina FB Patrick DiMarco had 2 catches for 38 yards and a TD.

Louisiana Tech RB Ray Holley had 7 runs for 24 yards

Cory McCaffrey with 1287 yards this year at Portland State!

I remember a relative of his coming on CF a couple years ago and saying the decision to go 1-AA was based primarily on the belief that he would only get a chance to play RB at that level.

I'm glad to see him doing well after he was bounced around between a couple different positions before this year.

If not for an injury at the beginning of their last game, Cory would've finished with over 1,400 yards rushing and inside the Top 10 among FCS RBs. They really got their system humming in the second half of the year. I'm expecting big things from him next season, assuming they don't try to alter the offense.

The only FBS game yesterday was Army-Navy.

Navy FB Alex Teich had 11 carries for 47 yards

Army QB Trent Steelman led all rushers in the game with 74 yards on 19 carries.

Army FB Jared Hassin had 15 runs for 50 yards and a 10 yard catch

In the FCS playoffs, there were a couple of notable performances.

Wofford RB Eric Breitenstein ended up with 23 carries for a game high 102 yards

Matt Szczur had 16 carries for a game high 104 yards and 3 TDs plus 5
catches for 45 yards and a TD. He also went 2 for 2 passing for 58 yards
