Amendola made a fantastic diving one-handed catch during the Rams win on Sunday. However, instead of appreciating it, the Caste Clown play-by-play announcer (don't know who it was) scolded him for not immediately getting up and trying to get more yardage. The replay showed that Amendola did indeed get up in a timely fashion and try to continue the play. It was a highlight reel catch, soiled only by the bitch who called it.

I didn't see that play but on NFL.com where I was following the play by play it said something like "Amendola makes an incredible one-handed catch."

here's the catch. WOW!

I think Trent Dilfer is commenting with " This is sick!"It's nice to have someone in the MSM give props to deserving athletes.Dilfer appears to be fair and straight forward in his analysis, along with giving recognition to all players... I like him.BTW, that was an amazing catch by Danny!

That catch was the number 2 highlight on ESPN Monday morning. Wow. It was just a great athletic play and catches like that will gain him Sam Bradford's trust!

Amendola was targeted 19 times yesterday, and had 12 receptions for 95 yards. The Rams lost Mark Clayton for the season yesterday, following Donnie Avery's season ending injury, and Laurent Robinson is constantly injured. Amendola should be the centerpiece of the Rams'passing game now.

Danny Amendola(notes)</span> (WR) St. Louis Rams

Mark Clayton's(notes)</span> season-ending patella injury means Amendola is firmly entrenched as Sam Bradford's(notes)</span>
No. 1 target. An excellent route runner who excels in the
short-to-intermediate field, the slot machine should become a lineup
staple in shallow PPR leagues. Even with Clayton in action, the
undrafted product ranks in the league's top-six in targets (10.0) and
receptions per game (6.6). Touchdowns will continue to be a rarity, but
he's essentially Wes Welker 1.0. Weekly double-digit efforts in PPR
formats should be expected. Right now he's on pace for 106 receptions
and 970 yards. His Week 6 opponent, San Diego, has held receivers 45.5
percent below the league average, but, outside Steven Jackson, he's the only game in town. Deploy him as a No. 3 in 12-team and deeper leagues.

FAAB Bid ($100 Budget): $13-$18

Of course Danny can't be a fast or athletic WR, he's just a good "route runner" who for some reason reminds "experts" of another great slot WR, Wes Welker. I wonder why that is...

Kevin Curtis would be the perfect down field threat for the Rams with Amendola in the slot. Curtis also has experience at the Rams (although entrenched behind two 'magic vetrens') but we all know this is the NFL where common sense is a word with no meaning.

Guess what? The NFL would be filled with Danny Amendolas if it wasn't fanatically biased against Whites.

Billy Devaney on the Danny Amendolaphenomenon

I'd be derelict in my duties if I didn't pass along something St. Louis Rams GM Billy Devaney said about first team All-Scrappy WR Danny Amendola.

Amendola is kind of a phenomenon on two different levels. For Rams fans, he represents new beginnings. Poached from the Eagles practice squad, not too far removed from his national media debut on "Hard Knocks" with the Dallas Cowboys, Amendola instantly gave the sagging Rams a morale boost. First returning punts and kicks, then showing his chops as a receiver.

Nationally, Amendola's Horatio Alger story piques the interest of writers everywhere, especially now that he's poised for big things in a developing offense. Wes Welker comparisons don't hurt either.

Asked how the Rams found Amendola, Devaney explained that the Rams pro scout at the time, Mike Williams, was the one advocating for the Rams to sign Amendola. Not just suggesting it, pressing for it tenaciously. Appropriate given Amendola defines tenacity.

Devaney's current assessment of Amendola:
<BLOCKQUOTE>

And we thought he'd be kind of a role guy as a receiver and really help us in the returngame. What we didn't know about Danny at the time was his work ethic and his preparation and his heart. [yes, so unusual to find among standout White athletes
smiley29.gif
] The guy may be the hardest-working guy onour team. [just thinkhow good he'd be if he had athletic ability] He's made himself into a really, really good wideout.</BLOCKQUOTE>

This one's for you VT.

As for the Combine, I have tons of download to drop on you. From yesterday alone I have more than 30 interviews recorded, almost exclusively with prospects that should/could be on the Rams' radar. We'll be rolling that out through the days and weeks ahead as we delve head-first into the draft.

hmm, again, good news (if they only come to be!) about yet another white receiver&gt;

ESPN NFC West blogger Mike Sando believes Rams WR Danny Amendola could flirt with 100 receptions in 2011.
New offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels highlighted Wes Welker in New England, and he reportedly sees many of the same qualities in Amendola. The Rams' slot receiver hauled in 85 passes last season, so triple figures seems reasonable with Sam Bradford gaining a year of experience. Amendola is a name to track during training camp, but he already has the look of PPR-league gem.

Normally Id be optimistic, but for Amendola its hard to be. Depending on the coach/team/manager etc, it varies on how much power the offensive coordinator has. They drafted two guys that are projected to be slot receivers, I don't consider Salas to be white but both he and Pettis are better at underneath stuff and getting yac, not to mention Kendricks who is supposed to be a Dallas Clark type that lines up like a receiver from to time to time. To me that is overkill and an obvious attempt to bury someone on the depth chart. If they had gotten a more prototypical outside receiver I could understand.

I don't think McDaniels was responsible for giving Welker that much of a role, Bellicheck has the most control on that team and he had been searching for a player to use like Welker for quite a while. He talks about it in his book. He stole the idea from the Rams when they had the greatest show on turf, the idea was to use Welker like Marshall Faulk was in the passing game. If you go back and watch 99 Rams, Welker does everything Faulk does except take handoffs. Now he has the complete package in Woodhead so would be interesting if he used him to his full ability. The only problem is he doesn't like to run everything through a particular player since he is a defensive minded coach first. That is how he stopped the Rams in the Superbowl, by keying on what Marshall was doing every single play.

Anyway I am rambling. McDaniels is a smart coordinator when it comes to x's and o's but arrogant to think that he can make it work with whoever he wants to make it work. He didn't use Decker and he also had Nate Swift on the practice squad. I thought he would use Tebow more since Bellicheck had sent him to learn the system before the 07 season and had some of it incorporated into their offense. He's not nearly as effective as Bellicheck running a similar type of offense, Bellicheck is the one that stays on top of the new types of offenses and how to make them work in the NFL.

The good news is lockout isn't helping rookies and they both have a jump to make, Salas more than Pettis because he didn't have a full route tree to run, but has more upside than Pettis. Pettis is a little overrated, if it weren't for that 1/16th non white blood he wouldn't have went that high.

Hopefully this prediction is true, I am more concerned about him getting his yards per catch up than getting his catches up though.

If Salas is moved outside then Amendola should still have a very large role. Salas is big and fast enough to line up outside, and he has enough non-White blood that it won't be considered a taboo or "controversial" move. But if Salas is kept as a second possession and/or slot receiver, then Amendola's numbers will go down. The Rams have a ton of receivers on their roster now, but I see Salas being better than any of them; the black ones are all injury prone or are one-trick ponys with speed but little else, it's just a matter of whenSalas willgetan opportunity and how he's used.

Salas is the real deal. One of the best WR prospects in the whole NFL draft in my opinion. BTW since when did having good hands make you considered a "posession receiver"? Salas runs in the high 4.5s and that's plenty fast to burn afflete CB's the NFL has to offer.

Danny is one of the few white receivers who actually resembles Welker. Both are shorter guys who run in the 4.6 range but have some serious agility and are threats as return men and catch everything they're thrown.I see him having a lot of sucess at the "Welker" position.

No surprise here. Amendola is easily the best receiver on the Rams.

Danny Amendola has been "head and shoulders above the competition" so far at training camp, according to beat writer Jim Thomas.

Amendola is staving off all comers for his slot gig. According to Thomas, Amendola has been "The Man" thus far and will be a "big piece" of new coordinator Josh McDaniels' attack. "Danny has come out here and kind of sparked things," coach Steve Spagnuolo said. The 85 catches Amendola posted during last year's breakout is within reach again.

Amendola, in his eagerness to come back, injured his triceps which could cause him to miss out the rest of the season...

Major injury news for already ailing Rams

Transaction: Placed CB Bradley Fletcher and WR Danny Amendola on injured reserve.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/502628/bradley-fletcher

Fletcher out for the year: Rams DB Bradley Fletcher suffered a torn ACL in practice Wednesday and is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Fletcher was covering WR Mike Sims-Walker on a pass play and landed awkwardly on his right knee. An MRI reveled the ACL injury. "I feel bad for him," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo told the newspaper. "Another rehab. ... Tough business."
(Updated 10/05/2011)

Fantasy Analysis

Fletcher was just the latest injury for St. Louis as the team is also expected to be without WR Danny Amendola for the remainder of the season. Fletcher was coming off his best performance of the season, racking up seven tackles during the Rams' loss to Washington in Week 4. The third-year pro finished the season with 23 total tackles. He should remain on waivers in all Fantasy formats.
(Updated 10/05/2011)

They have a bye this week, and then they play Green Bay..

The leading receiver in the NFL through the early part of the season plain old sucks in comparison to the great Andrew Hawkins:

After covering slot receivers Danny Amendola and Andrew Hawkins in consecutive weeks, Redskins CB Richard Crawford believes the latter was a much tougher assignment. Hawkins is "way quicker, not even close," Crawford said. "Faster, quicker, stronger. Not even a comparison." The major difference we've seen in the two slot receivers is that Hawkins is far more dangerous after the catch whereas Amendola excels in getting open. Hawkins should be rostered in 12-team leagues, but we would like to see his snaps and targets rise before trusting him as a WR3 option.

Richard Crawford didn't do much covering of either of those players so his opinion should not matter much. He is just made he got consistently beat by a white WR.
