That catch was the number 2 highlight on ESPN Monday morning. Wow. It was just a great athletic play and catches like that will gain him Sam Bradford's trust!
Amendola was targeted 19 times yesterday, and had 12 receptions for 95 yards. The Rams lost Mark Clayton for the season yesterday, following Donnie Avery's season ending injury, and Laurent Robinson is constantly injured. Amendola should be the centerpiece of the Rams'passing game now.

Kevin Curtis would be the perfect down field threat for the Rams with Amendola in the slot. Curtis also has experience at the Rams (although entrenched behind two 'magic vetrens') but we all know this is the NFL where common sense is a word with no meaning.

Amendola is kind of a phenomenon on two different levels. For Rams fans, he represents new beginnings. Poached from the Eagles practice squad, not too far removed from his national media debut on "Hard Knocks" with the Dallas Cowboys, Amendola instantly gave the sagging Rams a morale boost. First returning punts and kicks, then showing his chops as a receiver.
Nationally, Amendola's Horatio Alger story piques the interest of writers everywhere, especially now that he's poised for big things in a developing offense. Wes Welker comparisons don't hurt either.
Asked how the Rams found Amendola, Devaney explained that the Rams pro scout at the time, Mike Williams, was the one advocating for the Rams to sign Amendola. Not just suggesting it, pressing for it tenaciously. Appropriate given Amendola defines tenacity.

Normally Id be optimistic, but for Amendola its hard to be. Depending on the coach/team/manager etc, it varies on how much power the offensive coordinator has. They drafted two guys that are projected to be slot receivers, I don't consider Salas to be white but both he and Pettis are better at underneath stuff and getting yac, not to mention Kendricks who is supposed to be a Dallas Clark type that lines up like a receiver from to time to time. To me that is overkill and an obvious attempt to bury someone on the depth chart. If they had gotten a more prototypical outside receiver I could understand.
I don't think McDaniels was responsible for giving Welker that much of a role, Bellicheck has the most control on that team and he had been searching for a player to use like Welker for quite a while. He talks about it in his book. He stole the idea from the Rams when they had the greatest show on turf, the idea was to use Welker like Marshall Faulk was in the passing game. If you go back and watch 99 Rams, Welker does everything Faulk does except take handoffs. Now he has the complete package in Woodhead so would be interesting if he used him to his full ability. The only problem is he doesn't like to run everything through a particular player since he is a defensive minded coach first. That is how he stopped the Rams in the Superbowl, by keying on what Marshall was doing every single play.
Anyway I am rambling. McDaniels is a smart coordinator when it comes to x's and o's but arrogant to think that he can make it work with whoever he wants to make it work. He didn't use Decker and he also had Nate Swift on the practice squad. I thought he would use Tebow more since Bellicheck had sent him to learn the system before the 07 season and had some of it incorporated into their offense. He's not nearly as effective as Bellicheck running a similar type of offense, Bellicheck is the one that stays on top of the new types of offenses and how to make them work in the NFL.
The good news is lockout isn't helping rookies and they both have a jump to make, Salas more than Pettis because he didn't have a full route tree to run, but has more upside than Pettis. Pettis is a little overrated, if it weren't for that 1/16th non white blood he wouldn't have went that high.
Hopefully this prediction is true, I am more concerned about him getting his yards per catch up than getting his catches up though.

If Salas is moved outside then Amendola should still have a very large role. Salas is big and fast enough to line up outside, and he has enough non-White blood that it won't be considered a taboo or "controversial" move. But if Salas is kept as a second possession and/or slot receiver, then Amendola's numbers will go down. The Rams have a ton of receivers on their roster now, but I see Salas being better than any of them; the black ones are all injury prone or are one-trick ponys with speed but little else, it's just a matter of whenSalas willgetan opportunity and how he's used.

Salas is the real deal. One of the best WR prospects in the whole NFL draft in my opinion. BTW since when did having good hands make you considered a "posession receiver"? Salas runs in the high 4.5s and that's plenty fast to burn afflete CB's the NFL has to offer.
Danny is one of the few white receivers who actually resembles Welker. Both are shorter guys who run in the 4.6 range but have some serious agility and are threats as return men and catch everything they're thrown.I see him having a lot of sucess at the "Welker" position.

Here's a good article on Danny. He could have a huge season in 2012. 90 to 100 or more catches isn't out of the question.

Hawkins is "way quicker, not even close," Crawford said. "Faster, quicker, stronger. Not even a comparison." The major difference we've seen in the two slot receivers is that Hawkins is far more dangerous after the catch whereas Amendola excels in getting open. Hawkins should be rostered in 12-team leagues, but we would like to see his snaps and targets rise before trusting him as a WR3 option.

Richard Crawford didn't do much covering of either of those players so his opinion should not matter much. He is just made he got consistently beat by a white WR.
