Below is the state of college football for 2016 as of opening weekend. Out of 128 teams there are roughly 858 white starters or about 6.8 per squad. By conference looks like this:

Big 10 9.1
Independent 9.0
MAC 8.6
MW 8.3
Pac 12 7.3
Big 12 6.0
ACC 6.0
CUSA 5.8
AAC 5.3
SEC 4.9
Sun Belt 4.8

Before getting into 16, Here are prior year summaries. Summarized Colonel Reb threads. Did not see 13-15 completed. But will add later if I find them or someone else has the #'s. The thing that is shocking is just a decade ago roughly 35% or so of teams had majority white squads. Fast forward to 2016, and that number has shrunk to only 17%. And with 16 of the 22 majority white teams teetering at 10 or 11, that number could easily plummet to around 5% in another couple of years

2012
Majority White Teams (10-11): 37
Whitest Teams: Air Force, Army, Wisconsin: 15

2011
Majority White Teams (10-11): 42
Whitest Team: Wyoming: 16

Majority White Teams (10-11): 36

2007
Majority White Teams (10-11): 37
Whitest Team: Air Force: 21-22 (likely the closest thing to an all white team we will ever see again. This was my freshman year of college and remember seeing AF play CSU and thought nothing of it at the time)

2006
Majority White Teams (10-11): 48
Whitest Teams: Air Force, BYU: 19

2005
Majority White Teams (10-11): 43

Travesty. We don't have to wonder why the pro game is getting so bad...

Great list! Thanks for aggregating the data.

Small nitpick: Michigan should start 10 (not 8) whites including a fullback in the "base" package. I wrote the two starting tackles and two starting guards on the same line of text, so that was easy to overlook. Also, I believe Illinois would consider FB Nate Echard a nominal starter, bringing them to 10 also. Those were my counts, at least, but like you say, a couple injuries or depth chart leaps for any team and the numbers seem to trend down rather than up.

While our tallies are an inexact science, the trend you clearly illustrate is impossible to miss. No surprise that it coincides with both an increase in athlete crime and a push to pay the players.

Thanks for the breakdown... it has become jaw dropping...ONLY Six teams out of 128 with more than 11 white starters...

LSU had 5 until starting D-Lineman Christian Lacouture(team captain) out for year/knee injury...

Combination of many things going into this decline...including recruiting services exacerbating this situation; they are at the root of most of this...& whites are opting for baseball, etc more too...

Good work, Claimjumper! I know I didn't put together the 2013-2015 list. A note about the 2005 list, IIRC, only 89 teams were previewed, not all 110+. I don't agree with referring to teams with 10 or 11 White starters as being majority White. That would be 12 and up, since we're looking at the "22 full time positions".

Great work, CJ!! Unfortunately, it's going to get a lot worse than even this. Several of our high-profile teams will be dropping out of this within a couple of seasons. These teams include: Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, and probably Michigan as well. Looking at the 247 writer "predictions" most days, all I see is a sea of black recruits; rarely do I ever see a white recruit anymore. I know a lot of them have committed, but it's still not a good sign.

At this pace, college hoops will be way ahead of college football in terms of "watchability" for me pretty soon here.

Great post Twenty-two - hit the nail on the head.

Claimjumper thanks for doing this! And also thanks for doing all the Sun Belt write ups - what a crappy conference to have to cover!
