Jim Leonhard was re-signed to the Bills roster. So that gives them three white safeties, but guess what, two black rookies start at safety for them.

Kuhn was released from the Steelers practice squad. If Dan Kreider were to get hurt they'd most likely sign him to be their extra offensive lineman (blocking fullback).

I have a question about all the practice squad guys. If another player gets injured, can they be moved up to the active roster or are they stuck on the practice squad for the rest of the year?

They can be moved up to the active roster at any time, or cut at any time. They can also be signed by another team at any time.

Ah. I see that Hass is on with the Bears. They're my childhood team and it would be great if he was moved up to the active roster sometime this year.

Hass reminds me of Tom Waddle, another white reciever that caught everything that was thrown to him but was branded as "slow".

The Bears do have a very weak WR corp so hopefully at some point Hass will get his shot. I am sure Grossman would like to throw the ball to a guy that he knows will catch it 99% of the time.

Anyone know of the history of anyPS guys going on to become starters? I guess my question is if they are on the PS now are their chances better or worse for potentially seeing game time as the season wears on?

there's definitely a chance, cs... Shelton Quarles, Bucs MLB didn't even make PS first time around when he was a rookie FA... went to play in Canada for two seasons, and 3 years later he was a starter in one of the best defenses of last 10 years...

PS: and the moral of this story is that Quarles had his share of footbal and now he should retire so that Barrett Ruud can start for Bucs!

Looks like Simon Fraser of the Browns, the second year defensive end out of Ohio State, will be getting the start for the injured Orpheus Roye on Sunday against Baltimore.

Let's hope he does well. I learned about Fraser starting when I ran across this negative assessment of him from a site that specializes in injuries: It appears second-year DE Simon Fraser will get his first NFL start after playing 28 defensive snaps at Cincinnati. Fraser looms as an adequate backup at best. Backup DL Nick Eason is more athletic and experienced and would have handled the job, but he is out with an ankle injury

Seems like Rick Razzano could stay on with some team. He was a great FB for Ole Miss. I'll never forget going to that 2003 Arkansas game. Edited by: Colonel_Reb

instead of keeping Razzano, who's a great blocking FB Bucs signed a 32 year old smallish fullback Sowell, who is a decent receiver, but not as dominant blocker (Bucs only use him in jumbo formation, and i think Razz shoud block for Alstott)

where are they now... how about Brandon Heaney?

BYU's Brandon Heaney Clocks 4.37 sec. 40 Yard Dash at NFL Timing Day
Brandon Heaney turned some heads March 23rd in front of over 17+ NFL teams. Brandon a 5'11" 185lbs. corner for the Cougars was recently named MVP of the Las Vegas All-American Classic clocked a 4.37 sec. 40 Yard Dash. It did not stop there, he jumped 37" vertical jump, 9'10" broad jump, clocked a 3.91 sec. short shuttle, 6.52 L-Cone Agility, 10.72 60 Yard Shulttle and impressed scouts with a strong showing in postional drills. He drew interest from several teams in attendance. Heaney trained with PCT prior to the BYU NFL timing day.

or Brock Forsey?

As a senior, Brock led the nation in scoring and was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year. A former walk-on, Brock concluded his Boise State career as the second leading rusher in school history (4,045 yards on a school record 813 carries). He was also the third player in school history to score 400 points, while racking up 6,670 all-purpose yards and 50 rushing touchdowns

Brock started 35 of 49 games and on top of his rushing accomplishments caught 101 passes for 1,175 yards (18 TDs) and returned 63 kickoffs for 1,450 yards. He was a three-time all-Western Athletic Conference performer and ran for 100-plus yards in 19 games.

The Chicago Bears drafted Forsey in the 6th round of the 2003 NFL Draft. That season, Brock played in nine games (two starts) and finished the season with 50 carries for 191 yards, including a career best 134 yards on 27 carries and two receptions for 27 yards vs. Arizona on November 30th.

After being traded to the Miami Dolphins the following season as part of a package deal for Adewale Ogunleye, Forsey had 19 carriers for 53 yards as a reserve on Miami's anemic offense and added one special team tackle.

from NFL.com's prospect profiles: CAREER NOTES: Three-year starter who was one of college football's most prolific scorers, tying the NCAA Div. I-A record for most games scoring a touchdown in a season (12 in 2002, tied with Marshall's Randy Moss in 1997) and career (35, tied with Miami of Ohio's Travis Prentice, 1996-99)... In 47 games, he carried 813 times for 4,045 yards (4.9 avg.) and 50 touchdowns, caught 101 passes for 1,175 yards (11.6 avg.) and 18 scores, returned 63 kickoffs for 1,450 yards (23.0 avg.) and gained 6,670 all-purpose yards, an average of 141.9 yards per game...

Negatives: What you see is what you get â€â€￾ Nothing special or flashy about this athlete, just productive...

Brock in one of his handful of NFL carries.

or Kevin Kasper?

Kevin joined the University of Iowa football team as a walk-on in 1996, and slowly moved his way up the depth chart. By his Jr. year he was the starting wide receiver, and Iowa's main offensive threat. He broke the school record with 13 catches in a game against Ohio State that year. His Sr. year he exploded onto the scene and left as Iowa's all-time leader in receptions for a game, a season, and a career. He also was a three time academic All Big Ten Selection and was named MVP of the team.

After setting three all-time NFL combine speed records, Kevin was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the sixth round (190th pick overall). He was the AFC's leading kickoff returner for much of the season and started 5 games as a wide receiver.

In his 2nd year he was released by the Broncos, and picked up by first Seattle, and then Arizona, where he seemed to have found a home after scoring 3 TD's in the last 2 games. He was then released...

Lane Danielsen?

NFL.com prospect profile: The consummate team player who has proven to be a dangerous threat on reverses, deep routes and underneath patterns, in addition to excelling as a gunner on the punt coverage unit ... The former walk-on is highly regarded by teammates and opponents and will do whatever it takes to see the team succeed ... Called by some opposing coaches as the "toughest player" they have faced, he is very focused, both on the football field and in the classroom ... Three-year starter who appeared in 44 games, catching 163 passes for 2,690 yards (16.5 avg.) and 14 touchdowns ... His 163 grabs broke the school career-record of 150 by Tracy Henderson (1982-84) and his 2,690 yards topped Henderson's previous Cyclone all-time mark of 2,048 yards ... His 14 touchdown catches are one shy of the ISU career-record of 15 by Keith Krempfle (1971-73) ... Gained over 100 yards receiving in six games, two shy of the school all-time record of eight by Henderson ... Also gained 210 yards with five scores on 31 carries (6.8 avg), adding another touchdown on a blocked punt return, 98 yards on five kickoff returns (19.6 avg.) and 24 tackles (19 solos) with a forced fumble on the punt coverage unit ... Amassed 3,001 career all-purpose yards, passing J.J. Moses (2,992, from 1997-2000) for 10th place all-time on the ISU record charts.

4.53 in the 40-yard dash ... 410-pound bench press ... 445-pound squat ... 29½-inch vertical jump ... 9-foot-6 broad jump ... 29 5/8-inch arm length ... 8¼-inch hands ... Ambidextrous.

Lane doing what he did best.

Chance Kretschmer?

In 2001 averaged 157 yards a game to become the second freshman (Marshall Faulk did it in 1991) ever to lead the NCAA in rushing - including a 327-yard performance against Texas El-Paso.

a-kretschmer-nev-092201.jpg

Chance when he still got to carry the football.

Chris Kern?

this dominant cornerback from Division III Mount Union measured in at 5-10, 196 and ran the 40 in 4.41 and 4.37 at his Pro Day.

Kern intercepted 15 balls in his career and was a multiple-time first-team all-American and three-time National Champion. after going un-drafted, Kern was signed to a rookie free agent contract by Detroit and allocated to NFLEurope where he impressed, despite receiving limited playing time.

and check out this article, where it shows how impressed then head coach Steve Mariucci was with him. lost in its impressiveness at the time, was the fact that he's been the only defensive back ever to come close to covering David Kircus.
smiley32.gif

an excerpt: So goes the professional football life of Kern, a 5-foot-9, 196-pound cornerback/safety/special-teams contributor for the Lions. During the preseason, head coach Steve Mariucci cited his speed and versatility on a few occasions - even revealing that Kern's elasticity led to his inclusion on the team's 53-man roster, heading into Sunday's opener at Chicago.

But none of those guys had "quick-twitch" athleticism or loose hips.

I posted about Kern last year, he is one of the few white players that was complimented about his speed by the Detroit media, for all the good it did him.

I'm so disgusted at what has (or actually hasn't) become of these guys. Kasper was a great reciever; fast, elusive, etc. You have to ask yourself if anyone else, other than us, is questioning his disappearance. I mean, the guy had platinum blonde hair, how could you NOT know he's gone?

As for Forsey, how can a person look at that picture of him running, and say he's NOT athletic? Just his posture alone and the way he is positioned in that phote shows me that he's anatomically designed to be a runningback. Well, I hope at least he's got a decent job somewhere, and maybe set up with a nice 401k.

Where oh where is tailback Roger "Rabbit" Robinson?

Roger%20Robinson.jpg

the Rabbit at Northern Arizona

from the NFLEurope website: The Arizona Cardinals-allocated running back has been amazing as he has seared through defenses and caused coordinators fits throughout the season. Robinson's total of 1,087 yards rushing smashed the previous league record of 1,057 set by Mike Green in Barcelona in 2001, and the Galaxy back did it in only nine games after sitting out Week Six with a concussion. Robinson also set a new record with seven 100-yard rushing days this season, breaking the old mark of six set by Joe Smith of the 2005 Rhein Fire.

"This season has been a blessing," says Robinson after arriving in Düsseldorf to prepare for Saturday's World Bowl. "I am thankful for the opportunity I have had and the experience I have had. I am just enjoying myself, and breaking this record feels great."

With hindsight, Robinson's season in NFL Europe looks like a great move by the undrafted running back out of Northern Arizona. Cut by the Cardinals in training camp last season, he wanted to prove himself, but Robinson admits that coming to Europe was not the way he had intended it.

"To be honest, I was really wrestling with the idea of coming to Europe or not," he says. "I was pretty set on the idea of not coming, and then I made the decision that it would be for the best and I ended up coming. I did not know what to expect - I had confidence in my ability and I knew that if I came I would be able to make an impact, but everything that has happened has been more than I could have asked for."
(emphasis added by yours truly)

sadly, but not shockingly under the caste system, the season did nothing for Robinson's chances in the NFL.

here are his NFLE stats: 214 carries, 1,087 yards, 5.1 yard average, a long run of 66 yards (he scored a touchdown on the play) 4 TDs. he also added 113 yards receiving, and led the League in total yards from scrimmage.

i have talked to a teammate of his from NFLE, and he was arguably the fastest player in the league and definitely its fastest running back. that backs up what another Caste Football poster said a while back:
Runningwhite said:
Some info that some guys have on this board are incorrect. Robinsons' official fourty time is 4.36 his vert was 40.5" and he did 23 reps of 225. He came out on "The Sporting News " as the fastest RB in college football in 2005.

Roger was cut almost before training camp got started with a mysterious injury of some sort that was never clarified...

why have most football fans never heard of Trevor Insley?

a-insley.jpg

Insley was a wideout for the University of Nevada from '96-'99. he holds the NCAA Division I-A records for career receiving yards (5,005), most 200 yard receiving games (6), most 100 yard receiving games (26), and is ranked third in career receptions (298). he holds single season records for receiving yards (2,060 as a senior) and yards per game (187.3 as a senior).

he was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2000, because of course he was too slow.
smiley7.gif

despite getting the all-too-common treatment by the NFL after putting up 14 catches for 165 yards and one touchdown in limited playing time in '01, Insley went to NFLE where he was leading NFL Europe in both receptions and receiving yards after the first six weeks of the season before breaking his ankle. he still holds NFLE's record for longest punt return.

after the season, he broke his right ankle and tore the ligaments in it during a pre-season game for the Texans. evidently, you can lose your spot due to injury. Insley is now out of football... if you read between the lines in this article he doesn't seem too happy about it.

Derek Abney should be featured on a milk carton, because his disappearance is certainly unexplained...

030925kentucky.jpg

Derek Abney may be one of the most explosive college football players in history, and is definitely one of the most dangerous return specialists in the annals of college football. The spark plug of the Kentucky Wildcats, he is the owner of five NCAA Division I-A, 11 Southeastern Conference, and 14 school records for kick returns. He's returned eight kicks for touchdowns during his career (six punts, two kickoffs), and he became the first player in NCAA Division I-A history to record at least 2,000 receiving yards, 2,000 kickoff return yards and 1,000 punt return yards in his career. His 5,856 all-purpose yards set a school career record and ranks second all-time in SEC annals behind Louisiana State's Kevin Faulk.

Started 33 of 46 games for the Wildcats, catching 197 passes for 2,339 yards (11.9 avg.) and 18 touchdowns, second all-time at Kentucky.

According to NFL.com's Prospect Profiles, Abney posted the following measurables when the scouts poked and prodded him: 4.37 in the 40-yard dash ... 3.93 in the 20-yard shuttle ... 10.78 in the 100-meter dash ... 38-inch vertical jump ... 310-pound bench press ... Bench presses 225 pounds 11 times ... 460-pound squat ... 275-pound power clean ... 5'9" ... 179 pounds

The knock on him coming out of college was his size, because, no kidding, he "needs to add strength." The guy benches 310 pounds!
smiley7.gif

Abney was drafted in the 7th round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, but was released without playing a game. Since then, he has pinballed around the league a bit, but has never seen action in a regular season game. I can't find him listed on any NFL roster as of today...

here's some video of what the football world is missing.
