Connor Barwin did quite well in his rookie season recording 4.5 sacks.I hope he works hard this off season and has a real breakout year.

Barwin did very well as a part-time player last year. Unfortunately every depth chart I've looked at so far has Barwin as the backup at RDE to Mario Williams, with journeyman Antonio Smith as the starting LDE. In six years in the NFL, Smith has just 19 sacks and a puny 159 tackles. Barwin clearly has the talent to be much better than Smith; it'll be pathetic if he's forced, even as a second round draft choice, to have an extended "racial apprenticeship."

I completely agree that many of today's "can't miss" athletic prospects are way overrated from high school all the way to the pros. I believe it all starts with Rivals and other recruiting "experts" that rank these playas and they become entrenched in the hearts and minds of the pro scouts. This viscous cycle is obvious to us because there is no other way to explain such white standouts as Clay Mathews and Jared Allen that have to overcome extreme odds like having to walk on or play for Idaho Tech in route to the NFL. In saying this, I have to slightly disagree with the assessment of Marcell Dareus. I watched him many times and he is a very good player. He may not be the sexy player that columnists drool over, but he is the type of player that goes hard every play and makes an impact such as many of our white brethren. I fully support this site in recognizing white players and raising the awareness level of the the DWF's. However, I believe it is in our own best interests to also compliment other players that exemplify the traits we admire or at least not lessen their skills no matter what race that player may be.

I saw Dareus make a few plays last year, but he is out of shape, and why does he receive A TON more hype than a player like Ryan Kerrigan?

While watching the U.S. Open on NBC there were repeated commercials for a show called "Losing It With Jillian," in whichthe mannish looking Jillian oversees and motivatessome super fatties to lose weight. The one being repeatedly shown featured a couple of morbidly obese black males, whose shapeclosely resembled that of many NFL offensive linemen, who in that occupation are promoted as the "best athletes in the world."

Yes, their in-house stuff runs over and over and over again, and always narrated by the same grating black voice. I instantly hit the mute button now when one of them starts. (I do the same thing with the Progressive Insurance commercials featuring "Flo" and a never ending cast of emasculated white "men," which seem to run on all networks 24/7.)

The good thing about itis that the NFL Network must be having a lot of trouble selling advertising time if their own stuff is on constantly.Edited by: Don Wassall

"I'm not dead," a determined Williams said. "If I get 100 percent cleared, I'm going to play football." Williams also insists that his weight has not been a factor in the blood clots developing and that he's in "great shape" for an NFL guard.



I don't know ifWilliams' condition is related to his morbid obesity, but it wouldn't be surprising if it is. The NFL dodged a bullet several years ago when morbidly obese Korey Stringer died from heat stroke during practice. In litigation mad America, how long will it be before a class action is filed against the NFL by sumos and former sumos alleging some kind of systematic impropriety causing negative health affects? Big-time football is a lot like the cattle industry, constantly beefing up its product through various means,including chemicals and drugs. In the case of football players the super-sized product, who often is slow-footed, dull-minded and unmotivated,and without even basic stamina, is called an "athlete." Edited by: Don Wassall

With all the short, incredibly obese blacks on the recruiting sites, in college football, and then getting force-fed into the NFL, it's clear that many of them will be facing health problems.

It's not "natural" to be that out of shape. I think it's safe to say that obesity is just another black weakness. And, your "dull-minded" comment (about most sumos) is right on the money!

The sooner that would happen, the better, IMO. It would motivate the NFL to stop selecting these Sumos in the first place, because even more than black, I'm sure green($) is their favorite color. Maybe that would spur the NFL into creating some kind of policy where players would have to meet some minimal standard BMI, otherwise they'd risk having to sit out the game or season. Anything to reduce the number of Sumos that play in the AAFL would be fine with me.

That "You want the NFL? Go to the NFL" announcer sounds a little like (the unseen) Dr. Claw on the original "Inspector Gadget" cartoon show in the mid-80s (with Don Adams voicing Gadget in what amounted to a reprise of Adams's role as Maxwell Smart, even saying "wouldya believe" from time to time). I highly recommend the NFLN commercial pitch sumo (I'm sure he's obese) to voice an unseen supervillain role in some movie. [/sarcasm]
