Agreed Chris, no matter how long their arms they should be able to put up around 25 reps if they really train hard. SMith is 340 and could only put up 225 19 times, thats weak

Wow, a White guy that "looks the part" he has the long arms and is better than the guys going 18 spots ahead of him, it must be his average lateral quickness, oh wait, Michael Oher was said to have that. Guards (some who have played tackle)
1. Andy Levitre 6'2 3/8th 306 Oregon st, negatives: "lacks ideal arm length to handle the edges and does not play with good extension.
The way we see it: converted left tackle who lackes the size and arm length desired on the outside and projects to the left guard spot."
positives "very smart and has great feel for game. Strong functional athlete. takes good angles. works his hips and maintains positioning. Good base and balance to sustain and finish blocks"
so he has the hip snap but his arm length is hindering him even though it says "plays with very active hands and steers and controls defenders"
3. Kraig Urbik 6'5 323 Wisconsin negatives: "not a great athlete and struggles to handle counters and movement once he turns his shoulders."
positives "can snap his hips and drive defenders off the ball. Flashes explosive power to jolt defenders. Has all the intangibles"
so hes got the "hip snap" and the "explosiveness. but he will still project either the 3rd or 4th round as a guard
9. Andy Kemp 6'5 318 Wisconsin negatives: marginal contact balance, can do a better job sinking his hips.
The way we see it: "A thick, slow-footed mauler with some upside to develop. Shows he can get the job done but doesnt look pretty doing it."
positives: " has good overall size and frame. can get positioning and wall off blockers. Can anchor in pass protection and hold his ground when he bends his knees"
so i guess he projects in the 6th or 7th round as guard because he doesnt look pretty when gets the job done and doesnt have that "hip snap"
11. Ryan Stanchek 6'3 1/8th 305 West Virginia negatives : "does not sink his hips with ease or play with natural bend."
The way we see it: "A good tough, football player who lined up at left tackle in college but projects inside in the pros. Not overly athletic or powerful. Lacks agility to handle edge speed."
positives : "plays with enough agility to pull and trap. A smart player with great awareness and an understanding of blocking angles"
so he projects as a 7th rounder as a backup.
So all of these guys get the job done but "dont look pretty doing it" and they all are not athletic despite dominating in college, have average lateral quickness and some form of problems with "hip snap"
now here are some of the top rated black left tackles
1. Eugene Monroe Virginia 6'5 310 negatives: "uses too much finesse and is not overpowering as a run blocker. Too jumpy anticipating the snap and will open his shoulders and leave the inside susceptible to counter moves. Can punch with more authority and do a better job uncoiling his hands. Not elected a team captain and is not a vocal leader. Durability and mental toughness to play through pain will require further evalauation. but he has 'prototypical size with long arms and looks every bit the part.'"
The number 1 rated left tackle isnt tough physically or mentally! Yes this is the guy i want protecting my quarterbacks left side!
2. Jason Smith Baylor 6'4 305 negatives : "technique is spotty after and will need refining. Could play with more consistent pad level and leverage."
"loaded with upside, excellent athlete"
3. Andre Smith Alabama 6'3 340 negatives : "Weight has fluctuated too often and he tends to balloon in the offseason. Not a foot technician and tends to shuffle and slide instead of kicksliding. Can be late off the ball and tends to get lackadaisical and sloppy with technique. Not a polished protector. Wears down late in games. So Andre Smith has questionable character, sloppy, not polished and not disciplined, yet his going slotted at 3 compared to Alex Boone who they said lacked maturity issues and fail to say why they think that he will struggle mentally and is ranked 19.
4. Michael Oher Ole Miss 6'5 305: negatives "Average lateral quickness to slide, shuffle and mirror. Inconsistent hand placement and punch. Technique will need refinement. Looks distinterested at times and can be late to recognize the blitz. Has been coddled throughout college and his desire and passion for the game are iffy. Questionable football intelligence."
but they say "has the physical talent to line up at left tackle"
wait we have a black tackle with average lateral quickness but also doesnt have desire to play the game, but i guess he deserves to be rated higher just because. What a bunch of crap. He must also be rated high because he "looks the part"
7. William Beatty Connecticut negatives 6'6 291 pounds : "plays too soft. Does not have passion for the game. "needs to be challenged". lacks mental toughness. Does not play with power or nastiness. Does not have a mean bone in his body. Not competitive, plays like a cake eating chardonay drinker who does not want to get his finger nails dirty" (thats their analysis not mine)

Too many mental lapses show up in his game. Needs to play with more awareness and do a better job sustaining blocks. Cake-eater, users too much finesse and does not like to get dirty. Does not play with explosion or use his hands with authority, cannot play through pain, lacks mental toughness, was benched as a senior."

10. Phil Loadholt Oklahoma 6'8 343 pounds, negatives "does not have foot quickness or agility to consitently handle edge speed, struggles to strike a moving target. A.Q. Shipley is ranked the 5th best Center but projected to go in the 7th while Edwin Williams is at 6 and projected to go in either the 5th or 6th rounds. WTF?

At least Max Unger is ranked number 1 at center and projects to go in the 1st, and the top 5 ranked centers are all White. It seems to be the last White dominated offensive line position.

Teams are definitely not putting the best players on the field. What I am thinking, from what I have been reading, people are worried about no salary cap for teams coming up. Which means the richest owners will buy the "best" players. This will leave the smaller markets with the option to go with the lesser known White players. There are tons of talented White players who would play for 400,000 (i think that is league min) to a million a year, (it wouldnt matter, most know how to invest their money and not blow it all, so theyd probably wind up with more money than some of the players with huge salaries). There are already guys like that but sit on the bench or get no credit for what they do on the field. A smart coach in a small market could field a majority White team that is very talented for cheap, and i bet they would beat the richer, blacker teams. They would at least be evenly matched.
I don't see why smaller division 1 programs dont do that with players that are very talented but don't get recruited because of their race. Seems like too many of them tend to go with the juco transfers that are usually marginally talented and have had trouble in either academics or the law, or both. They should be putting the best players on the field, regardless of race, and guys that want to play football.
I mean isnt it like this in baseball? no hard cap? and they had the majority White Astros who made it to the World Series.

I was just watching ESPN and down below it was posting Mel Kiper's and Todd McShay's mock drafts and both of them had Andre Smith going in the top 10. I mean the guy blew up at the combine and has a bad attitude. I just don't get it.

I thought it was bad enough with a book about Michael Oher, now they are making a movie. I hope he becomes a big time bust because he had everything handed to him by some liberal white family and didnt really learn crap from it. Its not like he overcame anything, he still couldnt read. I guess they are going to distort the facts, just like in the book. Guilty Whites who are Ole Miss boosters adopt a black kid who is huge and get him to go to Ole Miss. Barely passes high school with some bogus BYU online courses that the parents helped him with so he could raise his GPA from a .5 or some low number like that. Had his own private tutor, throughout high school and college, and i doubt the classes football players take at Ole Miss these days are that hard.
He hardly learns anything despite being in a better environment and plays for the White family's team. Why didnt the parents adopt any of the other kids in his family? he had like 13 or 14 brothers and sisters, is it because they couldnt play football? hmm...
If he had actually learned something from being in a richer environment then I would give him credit. But the moral of the true story is if you are black, have any sort of hint of athleticism, then things in life are just handed to you.
They are going to make this into a warm fuzzy feel good movie of the year.

Sources told ESPN.com's James Walker on Tuesday that the Bengals demanded that Smith have a weight-control clause in his contract. Smith would lose a significant portion of his salary if his weight exceeded 350 pounds.
Though listed at 335 pounds, Smith tipped the scales at 364 when he showed up to sign his contract, convincing team officials to install the clause on the spot, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Smith, whose deal includes $21 million guaranteed and maxes out at six years and $42 million, was trying to claim the starting right tackle job.

He would have the chance to recoup the money through performance, but the incentive is there.
Since he resumed football workouts Sunday, Smith's weight already has dropped to 358 pounds, sources said.
Now, the Bengals will keep second-year lineman Anthony Collins at right tackle. Collins was a fourth-round draft pick last year and started six games at right tackle because of injuries.

the excellent overall mass was my favorite part. everyone here knew an injury with this guy was inevitable. the human foot can only sustain so much weight.
Stats that prove some linemen arent really what they are cracked up to be(mentions some overrated sumos).
he mentions the fact that i have been telling Saints fans that there was no drop off in talent from Brown(black) to Strief (White). It was only the announcer saying there was, constantly. Evans had a bad game which is where the pressure came from.

The Ability of an Offensive Lineman I was watching the usually excellent Cris Collingsworth lamenting in the W15 Saints @ Bears game that the pressure on Brees was far worse because Jamal Brown wasn't in at LT; Zach Strief was starting because Brown was injured. Well during the season Brown gave up pressure on 8% of all passing plays and Strief 5% but in that game 7%. What Collingsworth could have said was the pressure on Brees was worse because the usually excellent Jahri Evans had a poor game but that's not so "obvious"Â. Far easier to go with the old standby that the backup isn't up to the standard of the Pro Bowl player whose reputation hasn't diminished despite being awful for the last two seasons. Why? Because Brees doesn't give up sacks even though he's under pressure through his two tackles.
Other players who fall into this category are the hugely overrated Tony Ugoh (whose run blocking deteriorated as well last year) with 3 sacks but 11 hits and 29 pressures. Both of Denver's new tackles picked up rave reviews for their pass blocking based on giving up 0.5 of a sack and 2.5 sacks. The idea of how you give up half a sack aside what this misses is accompanying hits and pressures. Only one tackle gave up more than Ryan Harris's 38 pressures in 2008, you guessed it; Ryan Clady with 39."
Linemen with the best stats according to this, David Stewart who is White.

I dont think his stats are taking into account everything with some teams (like New England's dropoff in line play because of Cassel being new to playing in the league) but he dead on for some of his points.
Id like to see more players broken down to see how White left tackles do compared to black left tackles. Im sick and tired of trying to convince dwf's that Whites are athletic enough to play Left Tackle. I dont think his stats are taking into account everything with some teams (like New England's dropoff in line play because of Cassel being new to playing in the league) but he dead on for some of his points.
Id like to see more players broken down to see how White left tackles do compared to black left tackles. Im sick and tired of trying to convince dwf's that Whites are athletic enough to play Left Tackle. I never thought there would be a day when id have to convince someone a White man could play on the Oline.Edited by: dwid

Greenfire he was sacked 4 times. Something like that can very easily be looked up at NFL.com in a few seconds.
