Sean Morey

Sean Morey is doomed. Mark my words. Getting caught from behind by a linebacker is a sin that a white wide receiver will not be forgiven. He will not be on an NFL roster next year. Having said that, he does seem to have lost some speed in the last year or two. He looks a little labored in his 64 yard punt return that is featured on NFL.com. But this post is not to have a go at Sean, who is performing at a reasonable level, just to point out that white receivers are held to very high standards. I'll re-visit this post in 9 - 10 months time and see if I'm right.

it wasn't a punt return, it was a catch.
the linebacker in question is Patrick Willis, who runs 4'4 40. no shame there. he would catch pretty much 90% of receivers with enough time and decent angle.

i'd rather see Urban get all these catches, but Sean deserves some glory too.

It was a catch, but just a few days earlier I was looking at Seans profile or player page on www.nfl.com and itt featured a video of long punt return he did late in 2006 (it has since been replaced by his catch on sunday) in which he did not look particularly fast to me. That is what I was also refering to above. I remember him from NFL Europe as few years ago and he looked quicker.
I didn't know that the Linebacker was so fast, so thanks for pointing that out.

Morey would be a quite capable slot receiver for just about any team. Ivy League graduate with great hands, strong blocking skills, and probably average NFL speed for a receiver.

He'll be on a roster next year for sure. He's one of the top ST players in the game, was the ST captain for several years on the steelers and left as a FA to follow Ken Whisenhunt.

Sean Morey was also incredibly effective as a cornerback in NFLEurope one season, even though he'd never played the position before being moved there by the Patriots before being sent overseas.

Morey, while certainly not a speed freak, is most definitely a talented, fluid athlete who can help a team in many ways. much like a certain possession receiver who did so for the Pats a couple of years back and was lauded as a 'phenomenal' athlete... of course, that player was black.

I had one of the worst drunk white fan incidents ever last year when Morey was on the Steelers and I watched him return a kickoff for 76 yards.

The white people in the bar laughed at him. "Is that guy white?!" They all thought it was a big joke. What business did a white guy have trying to return a kick?

None of the black Steelers returned a kick nearly as far, but that is not important to drunk white fans.

Oh my god, those misinformed white idiots act like the Steelers have WR's who are speed-burners! Aside from Hines Ward (who's relatively slow and hasn't returned kickoffs in years) and Sancrapio Holmes (who has barely above-average speed, 12 bastard children, and fumble-itis) the Steelers "skill" players are SLOW as molasses in January.

I too had a "white fan" moment when I was talking about Aaron Kampman and how amazing he is (his combo of size, speed, strength, his great consistency) and this pitiful loser was talking up a storm about Demarcus Ware (who's more overrated than Dwight Freeney). After confirming that Aaron was in fact "white," he said he'd take Ware over Kampman any day because "black DE's are better."

I actually had an enjoyable "black fan moment" last week. I was talking to a black guy I work with (seems like an okay guy, I don't know him real well) about football and he told me that he went to school at North Carolina and had met Julius Peppers.There was a girl with us, and he looked over to explain to her who Peppers was. He described Peppers as one of the "top two" defensive ends in the NFL. He must have seen my facial expression change, because he quickly looked over at me said "wouldn't you say say?"


I said "No", and happily recited the names of Patrick Kerney, Jared Allen, Aaron Kampman, and Aaron Schobel. It was nice to be able to tell the guy that Peppers wasn't even a Top Five defensive end in the NFL!!!

Jared Allen and Aaron Kampman are number one and two. Schobel, Kerney, Umenyiora and Peppers you could mix up anyway for the next 4 guys. Strahan is getting too old and Freeney is overrated b/c he isn't very good against the run. The top two DEs are white; come on NFL there must be more out there if the top two are white!
