Ramil Guliyev ran a 20.32 in Istanbul recently, with a 0.8 mps wind behind him in the deuce. It would be nice to see him make the final again, though it appears Lemaitre has closed the 200m gap between them.

Yeah, the wind was brutal in every race, but it is worth noting that most of the runners ran more than once, and in the 200 (also against a negative wind), Guliyev defeated Jamaican Lerone Clarke by a full half-second! The fact that everyone was doubling probably produced slower times, too. Niit, for example, doubled with a 100/400. He won the 400, where they don't report the wind, but any wind at all is deadly:

Damn. Ramil cannot catch a break with the wind. He has ran so many races into the wind. What happened to nice weather in the summer time? Oh well. Still a solid performance. I just would like to see him get at or near his personal best times. Especially since we won't get to see him run at the World Championships.

The "Rocket" Ramil Guliyev finally got in a very good time today in Finland. He ran twice and came through with a very nice time of 10.14 in the finals. Once this kid learns to actually have a real drive phase, sub 10's will be just around the corner. It's such a shame that he won't be allowed to compete at the World Championships due to his running for a different country. He is by far the most talented white sprinter on the planet outside of Lemaitre. Good luck to Ramil in the future. I want to see him on tv more and hopefully at the olympics next year if they can get things overturned as far as what country he is running for. Here are the results from todays race.

That was a great read. I had no idea that Ramils father used to be a sprinter for the former Soviet Union. Great genetics indeed. What a shame it is about his fathers death, the injuries last year and the change of countries keeping him out of the world champs and olympic games. I really would have loved to have seen him out there. I hope he runs 3 or 4 more times this summer to see if he can challenge his personal bests. If not then let's hope that 2012 will be the year he joins Lemaitre in the sub 10 and sub 20 club. I want to see both of them acheive this incredible feat of athletecism.

I read the translation. It says he's in good form, training at a pre-Olympic camp in Nicosia (Cyprus). Also mentions that he's married to another athlete, Yuliya Baraley (a 400m runner).

It's a good article. It sounds like there is still a chance of him running in the summer olympics in August. I sure hope so. The guy deserves it. I only wish his dad could have lived to have seen it. Some how, I think he will still know what's going on. Let's go Ramil.
