"Rocket" Ramil Guliyev 9.97 and 19.76 (World Champion 2017 over 200 meters)

We are only a little over a week away from "Rocket" Ramil Guliyev opening up his 2013 season! The wait is finally almost over. He might be a little rusty with the extra long layoff but at least he is a full citizen now and he can compete at the World Championships in Moscow, Russia assuming he can run fast enough to qualify! Ramil Guliyev was supposed to race in Sweden today, but he didn't show up at all in the results.
Don't know what happened......

So Ramil raced today not yesterday.
As far as I know it was his first race in more than a year...and it showed: 10.58 (2.1w).
Obviously it's going to take him a while to get back on track in the 100m...
But he did much better in the 200m - 20.69 (-0.5w). So good news there.

Ramil Guliyev took the silver medal today at the meditaranian games in the 200 meters with a time of 20.46! He is slowly moving in the right direction but I can't see any way that he gets into any type of form this late in the year as far as the world champs go. He has great natural speed and that's mostly what we are witnessing. He will go faster this summer but I doubt it will be enough to come even remotely close to 10 seconds in the 100 or 20 seconds in the 200 meters. I would love to be wrong but he just missed too much of the season. Either way it's great to at least see him back out there competing again and finally running for Turkey like he has dreamed of for so long. Good luck to "Rocket" Ramil the rest of the year!

Maybe I spoke too soon. Lol. After taking 2nd in the 200, Ramil followed that performance up with another 2nd place finish in the 100 meters. This race was far more impressive in my opinion though as he only lost by .001 and he ran a 10.23 with only a 0.2 wind!

To run a 10.23 out of nowhere is pretty amazing if you ask me. This was only his 2nd and 3rd races in all of 2013 combined! So he just may be a factor in Moscow if he can continue to round into form. Very nice double by "Rocket" Ramil Guliyev! Best news all year outside of the junior ranks. I'm so happy to see him back on the track again!op2:

Wow, that is impressive. It seems all he needed was to ramp up his nervous system to get into a good drive phase. His natural max vel. and endurance was already there from the two. Way to go!

I forgot to mention that he broke the Turkish National 100 Meters Record in that race. Some how I have a strong feeling that this record is not going to last for long as the "rocket" ramil will blast off again sometime soon. On a side note, Michael Tumi of Italy finished 3rd in that same 100 meters final running a 10.25 despite a very average start. Good to see him run a descent time without the aid of the wind. With a better start, Tumi would have probably had a new seasons and personal best.

Ramil is almost at the level of talent as Christophe, but I think his coaching is probably far worse...Im not sure if Turkish trainers are known for elite sprinting. They never had a talent like this guy. I think Ramil will put some very very impressive times after the Moscow games.

Well I've been waiting for Ramil to race again for around a month now. What happened? Is he hurt? I don't get it. What an incredible
waste of talent to not be out there. Very few people on earth have that natural speed that Guliyev has. If anyone has an update, please
post it. I'm wondering if he will even go to the world champs next weekend. If he does, I wish him good luck but he has just been far
too inactive to expect much if anything in Moscow.

Can this kid finally break the magical barrier over either 100 or 200 meters? I sure hope so. If he only did one of the two I would prefer that he go sub 10 in the 100. It's more excting and only one white guy has done it. While we have 3 or 4 sub 20 guys. So excited to see him open up the season on a good note. Guliyev has been though hell the last 3 to 4 years.

Great news. It hasn't appeared on the IAAF 2015 lists yet but I'll keep an eye open. Any idea of wind strength?

So we'll see him in South Korea for the world university games early July. Good early form - fingers crossed he stays healthy

He completes the year having shown the return of his great speed endurance which became apparent after his 2009 Universiade 200 performance of 20.04 in 2009

Finalist in the Worlds in Beijing with rounds of 20.10, 20.01 (which looked an easy sub 20 as he visibly eased up) and a 20.11 in the final.

Then his epic 19.88 two weeks later in Zagreb

His 10.12 100m best this year reflects his poor starting technique which doesn't matter so much in the 200

Ramil isn't concerned with who he races but it seems he may sometimes use it all up in the early rounds.
I hope it doesn't happen here - I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the chance to run multiple rounds in Turkey

I think Guliyev and China's Bingtian Su will be in the final with Guliyev just missing out and taking 4th. Yohan Blake will eek out a win between Christian Coleman and some dude we have never heard of.

Hate to say it but I think the guy you never heard of will be De Grasse even though I cant stand the little twerp. Bolt will win even if the promoters have to rig the race.

De Grasse actually just pulled out with an apparent injury during training so Guliyev probably would make the final had he entered. Lemaitre is in terrible form and Reus has never run well in high competition so Su is about the only intriguing 100m sprinter this year. Maybe one of the Japanese guys can show up.

There is a Korean kid who has a 10.07 this year. Would be cool if he does not freeze up and turns in a PB. We already know Reus will freeze up.

Ramil is a seasoned cool cat, he'd PB for sure in the 100, but then I suppose that would burn him out for his favorite event, the 200.

Whatever happened to Teeters?? So many of our guys just disappear. He showed once this year, beat the Jamaicans with a great relay anchor, then faded back into the shadows.
