Dwid scam is doing the same things he has done the past few seasons. His productivity is down. It is the defense that is keeping them in games and responsible for their turn around. Newton just benefits from the black qb hype. He has not carried a team on his back like Andrew Luck has done.
yea, I realize this, but dwfs have been brainwashed so much by the analysts that Newton is going through his progressions this year, its hard to get it through their skulls.
They see Brees check down to a back after going through his reads and see Newton throw to a back and think its the same thing, maybe because it took Newton slightly longer to make the checkdown with the excuse "don't think he is in Brees/Brady/Manning category with passing, but close, and that combined with his athleticism makes him a super star". In that same time period Brees has looked off Meachem, Colston, Moore, and Graham, in some particular order, or a variation of some of the other receivers like Stills, Graham is the first read on a lot of plays now when before it was Colston, depending on the route combo they call. They like to run Meachem or Stills deep, usually gaining no separation and then throw to Graham. Moore (who shouldn't be there, that should be Hass in the spot) has been invisible since his 1 1k season. So if those guys are covered its a dump off to Sproles or Thomas, depending on who is in there, sometimes Ingram but he can't catch, thats why I think we have seen an increase in Jed Collins getting receptions. He has 11 receptions on 13 targets, Ingram has 3 receptions on 7 targets. And they had the nerve to say Gerhart wouldn't be an asset in the passing game like Ingram when the dude was an outfielder. He has 77 career catches compared to 20, he has one more year but we all no of his limited snap counts.
anyway, taking longer, you see Cam stare down his number 1 read, probably sit there and decide if he should run, and if not he will throw it to Olsen or a back, if he isn't getting sacked. Now the Saints have a guy in sack leader column because Cam kept stepping back when the line created a perfectly good pocket, textbook, step right into the rush instead of stepping up.
thats why i said he figured out how to go through it somewhat, in the David Garrard style. 8 games and no one could stop it, the defense must have been playing really good. All you had to do was dare him to throw deep. I guess it took a high power offense. 3 downs to get 12 yards resulting in an 8 minute drive leading in a field goal was not going to keep up with Brees pumped up after the Seahawks loss (who sadly showed us what the Saints receiver talent level really was), which is why they should have kept Hass, or tried to grab a White receiver since then. None of those guys are great, except Graham, who looked scared against a physical defense unlike a White tight end.
