Philadelphia Eagles General Thread

Someone mentioned it earlier in a thread that his jersey number was all wrong, but Will Shipley now will wear #28.

I haven’t been more optimistic about a white running back’s chances to become a star since CMC.

Shipley has everything one would want in a modern day, three-down back.

And Barkley seems to always be hurt.

I’m optimistic, cautious yes, but very cautiously optimistic.

If I were a teenager I would buy his jersey. Hoping he becomes a big star!

McCaffrey didn’t get 1000 yards his rookie year, hopefully Ship gets a bunch of carries and 5-600 yards....After a year of two, hopefully he starts racking up 1000 yard seasons....

Eagles sign Carson Steele
Hopefully he gets a real chance in camp. Would stink if they are bringing him in simply to be their Kyle Juszczyk.

Free agency is nearly upon and 2026 season is here.

Be interesting to see what happens with S Reed Blankenship, he is available on the market and Eagles look like they are shopping players, maybe they use the cap space they are looking to create to keep him....

Hopefully McKee is going to be traded to a team as a potential starter now.

The Cole Payton hype train continues to roll. Tanner McKee may be an NFL caliber starter but I can see Payton replacing Jalon Hurts in the next season or two given his running ability.

Everything I read about Payton mentions that he's "raw" because he went to North Dakota State and didn't start a lot of games. But the same was also true of Trey Lance and he was the third overall pick, a huge mistake obviously, but it's another illustration of how talented White QBs are now routinely drafted on the third day of the draft or not at all, while black QBs that flash some "upside" are drafted much earlier. Quarterback is now a Caste position, but the problem for the agenda pushers is that most good QBs are still those darned overachievers.

A few pertinent paragraphs from the article below about Payton (the only surprise is that he was a two star recruit rather than the far more common walk-on route that Whites have to take):

"Now granted, rookie minicamp isn't exactly a joint practice with a heated rival like the New England Patriots. There aren't hard hits, sophisticated schematic clashes, or really anything to write home about on the field, but it does showcase how new players look in the context of their new team, which matters.

"But which player stood out most? Well, while Lemon and Stowers earned the majority of the external attention, because the Eagles only had one quarterback in camp, the player who got the most attention, but from his coaches and his teammates, was fifth-round pick Cole Payton, who touched the ball more than any other player after a career spent at North Dakota State.

Cole Payton was incredibly productive at North Dakota State

"Standing 6-foot-2, 232 pounds, Payton is almost the same size as his new teammate, Stowers, and when the ball is in his hands past the line of scrimmage, he plays like him, too.

"Coming up as a quarterback out of Omaha, Nebraska, Payton didn't get the same attention as Stowers as a signal caller, committing to North Dakota State as a 2-star recruit instead of a football powerhouse like Texas A&M, but that didn't stop him from producing at a high level."

Payton is one to watch for sure. It will be interesting to see what happens with the QB depth chart. I think Hurts is a one trick pony and alot of the offensive issues are due to his lack of passing ability.

I'll definitely be keeping tabs on Cole. Would love to see as starting QB in the league. If, however, he becomes a star just by tearing it up as an offensive juggernaut, I'll still be overjoyed. :)

Have any of ya'll heard of this player Kapena Gushiken? He's from Hawaii. He is getting a lot of praise.

I've been reading a lot of negative articles about Cole Payton recently so it's good to see this. He can be better than Hurts but of course his route to playing time in the NFL will likely be a prolonged process, if it happens at all.

Man, that kid is really impressive! He made Trey Lances younger brother look like Jerry Rice and was never caught behind on any of those long runs. Payton may even be a little faster than Josh Allen. Looking forward to watching play.

Yes he was an obvious pro prospect when I saw him as he was making highlight reel plays but he is "tiny" at less than 190 pounds and sub 5'9" also he is a bit of an ethnic novelty as he has a Japanese surname that he shares with the legendary 108 pound champion Yoko.

Kapena is of obvious European ancestry and Japanese and possible Polynesian ancestry too in the past he would have made a good CFL prospect but with the wide chasm of pay between the two leagues if he quickly washes out of the NFL he may get on with his life.

It looks like Will Shipley might have helped himself this offseason. Looks like he might be the frontrunner for the third RB spot. He has to stay injury-free and hold onto the ball, of course.

Nice article, but being a "frontrunner for the third RB spot" is like being among the finalists in a "kiss your sister" contest given Shipley's talent and all-around skill set.

I don't want to see him cut because at best he'll be picked up by another team and stay in the same mis-Caste role he's in now. Barkley slipped quite a bit last season and was among the least efficient runners in the league after contact. More Barkley decline and/or an injury is the best thing that can happen for Will as Tank Bigsby is a run of the mill RB but nothing special whereas Shipley is a three down starter in waiting if he ever gets the opportunity to show it.

BTW we have an ongoing Will Shipley thread in the Eagles forum.
