I think he has as very good shot at breaking the magical 1k barrier. He will be the feature back for the rest of the year and only injury or god awful play by the Browns overall will cost him it. He looked like a beast in that game. He had power but also cut back against the grain to maximize his big runs....

In Denver it took 6 black RBs getting hurt before Mike Shanahan was forced to play Hillis. In Cleveland, it took 3 before he got a shot at the featured role -- James Davis going on IR last year, Montario Hardesty going on IR this year, and Jerome Harrison getting injured and not running well before he was hurt.

I understand what it took for him to play but sometimes God may be on our side. Whatever the reason Hillis must take this oppurtunity and seize the day. He has to play like a man possesed with all out fury on every play, and he can't take plays off because he is WHITE. 144 yds! When was the last time a white running back gained that many in a game? In all the years I've been here I know a couple of white brothers have gone over 100 but 144 is big stuff. Maybe Craig James? I hope it's not all the way back to Riggins.

Craig James biggest yardage day was 25-142 for New England on 12-22-85 in a 34-23 win over the Bengals. John Riggins went 32-165 for the Redskins in a 34-14 victory over the Cowboys on 10-14-84.

Mike Alstott never gained as many as 144 yards. In 1998, he had a game of 128 yards, in 1999 of 131, in 2001 of 129, and 126 in 2002. You can find a player's stats at Pro Football Reference.

I have no doubt that Hillis has the talent to rush for 1000 yards. My fear is that he is the ultimate team player. He will fight for every extra yard for the teams sake. This and the fact that many of the players will be jealous of him, will lead to many cheap shots. They will want to knock him out of the game and end his season. Hillis is going to have to know when to go down so that he doesn't take too many viscious hits. That is a major concern. He is so exciting though. I really hope and pray he can stay healthy for the whole season. It would have been even better if the Browns were a playoff team but I will take whatever I can. I'm officially a Browns Fan because of Hillis!

WL, I wouldn't be too concerned with the cheap shots. These definitely get penalized and fined. They don't take the step they do in college and eject players, which I think the NFL should consider. Most penalties are stupid moves like Tom Zibikowski did out of bounds after the whistle on Hillis. But really I don't think most black NFL players will be mad that ONE white RB in the NFL will be going over 1000 yards. They don't really have anything to gain and they have quite a bit to lose by taking a cheap shot.

I agree that sometimes God is on our side and I also believe in some new age stuff that occasionally the stars are aligned and everything falls into place combined with stern dedication and an intense desire to succeed.

Sometimes doing the right thing with the right attitude pays off. Hillis if finally emerging and the walls of the caste system may be deteriorating faster than planned!

Even though Peyton didn't start until game three, he is ranked 9th in the NFL in rushing! He would easily by top 5 if they would have played him from the get go. Regardless, top ten is a very good place to be. Let's hope for another big game this weekend. Let's go Peyton Hillis!

Fullback Lawrence Vickers talked about "how proud he was of Hillis and that Peyton is his brother", Pro Bowl offensive lineman Joe Thomas talked about "Peyton should be a feature back in the NFL and that he was not just a power runner but he had speed as well" and he brought up the point about Peyton's 48 yard run that he broke to the outside to back that up. I think things are definitely looking up with the performances of Hillis and Woodhead over the weekend.

After the Ravens-Browns game, I've heard also no amount of negativity towards Hillis. Obviously, I've read the obligatory comparisons to "Mike Alstott"Â￾ and a "Modern Day John Riggins."Â￾ Also, I've heard some racist, clichéd vernacular such as "Throwback Player."Â￾ The Coke Head Supreme, Michael Irvin, kept referring to him as "Sugar"Â￾ (because sugar is white in color, har har) whilst laughing like a schoolgirl.

Those bigots will fade away soon enough"¦as even the dim-witted, intoxicated, self-loathing white masses can smell that the NFL's beloved Racial Spoils System is rotting from within.

Listening to sports talk radio this AM. Some guy was talking with Joshua Cribbs. He said (paraphrase) "Terrell Suggs said he didn't know who Peyton Hillis was before the game."

Cribbs responded with something like "He knows him now."

Thought that was a pretty good endorsement from Cribbs.

I'm guessing sometimes it's just the little equipment quirks you pick up along the way as a player. I know I had very certain ways of wearing my equipment that I had discovered were comfortable/practical over the years. Seeing as you can get just about any kind of equipment you want in the NFL, I'd guess Peyton has everything just the way he wants it.

Another potentially good thing about Hillis' performance - it might wake up the Vikings as to the potential they have with Toby Gerhart, who is a similar runner to Hillis.
And if they don't wake up, maybe another team will think about trading for Gerhart.
We all know a lot of NFL teams didn't believe in Toby coming out of the draft.Maybe Hillis can open up their eyes, not only for himself, but for Gerhart and others.
Let's hope so.

Browns coach Eric Mangini responded with irritation when asked about Jerome Harrison expressing frustration with his offensive role.

"His role is to go in and to carry the ball when he's asked to carry the ball and do it effectively, and protect the football," emphasized Mangini. In addition to struggling with fumbles since the start of exhibition action, Harrison averaged 3.4 yards per carry in September compared to 5.6 for Peyton Hillis.
