Dalton still has a shot to win OROY. If Newton keeps turning the ball over and the Panthers continue to lose and Dalton leads the Bengals to 10 wins being fairly consistent he should win it. Dalton did throw 3 ints today...but Newton threw FOUR

I'm hoping Dalton wins it; especially after that ridiculous pre-draft nonsense about a redhead not being capable of succeeding at the QB position.

Congrats to Jordy Nelson on another great game! He now has 756 yards and 9 TDs on just 40 receptions! That is 18.9 yards per catch! If he maintains his current pace, he's on track for over 1,200 yards in the regular season!

Funny, everyone on this site has agreed Scam is doing pretty good but if you think he'll be "untouchable" like Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning for that matter your terrible wrong.

Chris Obonowana or whatever his name is has 9 carries for 17 yards. I'm kind of happy Hillis is injured because no running back in the entire league would be able to put up decent numbers in that offense. Hopefully they upgrade the offensive line for next season and keep Hillis.

115 yds and a TD. Starting him in fantasy league with Hillis gone.

I am surprised that he is completing 60% of his passes, but equally surprising is that 60% is only good for 20th place. The only notable QBs that Newton is leading in completion percentage are Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, and Joe Flacco. It seems like in today's NFL 60% is replacing 50% as new standard.

Okay, I went overboard with 'untouchable,' I may have been watching too much ESPN.

Still, I do think he's a cut above the average black quarterback like Jackson. I think if he took over Jackson's position at the Seahawks and had a reasonable defense to work with, there could very well be a Superbowl in his future.

Toby Gerhart managed 18 yards on seven carries and caught a seven-yard pass after replacing Adrian Peterson (ankle) in Week 11. Gerhart was the Vikings' first-team tailback after the Peterson injury, but we're not sure he's even worth picking up in fantasy leagues. Running as if his feet were stuck in mud and possessing no lateral agility, Gerhart had the look of an early-career Brian Leonard. With the Falcons' top-five run defense next on tap, Gerhart will be relatively low down waiver-wire priority lists.

Indeed. After week three, many posters here were grudgingly acknowledging his early success. Here was my post at that time:

Although like many, I am surprised by the early success of sCam Newton, I'll give him his due. The only part that I have difficulty stomaching is having a picture like this pop up when I go over to Yahoo: egads!

More recently, however, I posted about how his interceptions and fumbles (fumbles for loss don't show up in the passer ratings) are almost unnoticed in his writeups:

Just woke up from a six-month-long nap and heard all of the glowing praise and saw the glowing stat lines for the first 8 games for sCam Newton. I notice that the interception numbers are buried in any of the stories, and apparently he has never fumbled, so Carolina MUST be 8-0 and steamrolling all of their competition, right? No? Then it must be a CONSPIRACY against the great bug-light-smile hero, sCam! The defense must be ranked DEAD LAST in the league against the run AND pass, and give up 60 points a game in order to overcome the dynamic playmaking of our offensive (no double-entendre intended) hero! What? So they're a better "D" than Buffalo, New England, Atlanta, and Green Bay? Then sCam should be at least 6-2, right?

I think I'll go back to sleep. I'll wake up next year to hear similar hype about Robert Griffin III.​

At this point, being a rookie starter for a underwhelming team, he is better than most recent black quarterbacks, and has potential to be very good. However, as many have noted, black quarterbacks historically do not raise their games as seasons roll on, but usually regress. Also, as pointed out by Riddlewire, Newton is the product of, and is currently in, a "Voodoo Mathematics" offense in which almost all of the offensive production is on his stat line.

Finally, Newton at this point doesn't seem to be able to elevate the level of his teammates, which is a liability of leadership.

Newton is rated 14th overall, he's about average/slightly above average. He's operating in ideal conditions with everything geared to maximize his skills and minimize his weakness and he's still putting up average numbers, this is not acceptable for a 1st overall pick, that's the whole point. More than 25% of his passes are 15+ yards. He keeps chucking up long passes to inflate his numbers with an average completion. He only increases Panthers chances to win a game by ~10%, without him replaced by an average QB they would be 1-9 as opposed to 2-8 which is not a whole lot different. He's not even close to Romo/E. Manning/whoever else he was compared to in this thread.

Exactly. I think all rookie QBs should get a two-year breathing space (unless they're putting up Glabbert type numbers).

Newton was rated 25th after last week by ESPN's QBR system. And, since a score of 50 means a quarterback is an "average" performer, Newton's 24.4 means he's well below average for an NFL quarterback. After today's performance, he'll drop even further.
Face it, dude. He's a system quarterback, and not even a very good one (as proven by all the losses).
Carolina should replace him in the draft, just like they did to Clausen, who was only given one season.

yeah that is really bad. "feet stuck in mud". He looked pretty explosive when there was a hole. He showed plenty lateral agility on the stretch play, except there was no hole to cutback into. It was just a wall of blockers occupying defenders stringing all the way out to the sideline without creating a crease.

Barrett Ruud apparently re-aggravated his injury during the game and Colin McCarthy went in for him. On top of last week's 12 tackles, McCarthy had 10 tackles and a forced fumble! Looks like another White defensive star has been born.
