Tebow didn't have any problems throwing to Riley Cooper at Florida, and he was pretty much locked on Decker before Thomas was turned into the primary deep threat by the coaching staff. And if Decker hadn't inexplicably developed "black hands" his stats in the second half of the season wouldn't have looked as bad. It was shocking the number of balls he dropped. I'm just very glad the way Tebow has defied the mass media haters and look forward to seeing him develop more as a passer next season.

I have to side with foobar opinion on this one. Decker fell off the map because after the first Kanas City game he was recognized as the only deep threat and Tebow's only real weapon. That left Thomas more than wide open on many occasions. Decker also has had a case of the rookie dropsies as of late. I think Decker is the most talented Denver receiver in Denver but combine dropping passes with a Pop Warner play book and you got a stretch of low production. No big deal. Decker will be better than ever next year.

Hear, Hear. Got to agree with this assessment.

At the moment I’m pulling for the Patriots. Depending on how the game develops, I may change my mind

I think Decker's drop in production had much more to do with his inconsistent hands; then it did Tebow not looking his way. Also after Thomas's return Decker ran more underneath routes; Tebow tends to miss the check down and the underneath receivers, preferring to push the ball down field. Decker will be just fine and will not lose his starting spot due to the fact that the Broncos run the football more then anyone; they need WR's who are capable and willing to run block on about 3/5th's of the plays. Who would take that role from him, Eddie Royal, Matt Willis? I think not. If the Broncos are to have any chance of beating the Patriots; who I hope win for the record. The Broncos will have to open in 3 and 4 WR sets and actually pass the ball this is the worst pass defense in the history of the NFL; Broncos need to come out with at least 7-10 WR screens and allow Tebow to get into a rhythm. I expect Tebow to be in the 40 pass attempts range much like he was against Chicago.

One huge factor in Tebow's success against Pit was that he finally seemed to grasp the concept of stepping up in the pocket; rather then the drifting back as I had become used to seeing from him. It worked wonders for him, as he was not sacked once; compared to the 10 times he was sacked in the previous 3 weeks. I did not think we would see this progression from him this season, it is yet another testament to his hard work and ever improving mechanics. I always thought that if he just got his footwork right everything else would fall into place for him; thankfully that seems to be the case.

Truthteller, I'm equally disappointed with Decker's reduced role in Denver's offense, but I'm not yet convinced that this is Tebow's fault because he'd rather throw to black receivers. However, the situation deserves close monitoring because it would be criminal for such a talented WR to be phased out and become a part-time possession guy because his QB never targets him. I guess part of this could be a trust thing also which takes a bit of time. Aaron Rodgers has finally developed it with Jordy and we've seen exceptional results.

Foobar, this is pretty much what I mean. Basically, yes, I hope Tim doesn't turn into another Brett Favre type, who seemed to prefer playing with black players -- notice how Don Beebe disappeared in 1996 after Favre pulled to get Rison? Only time will tell for sure, but going forward I don't see Decker becoming a Jordy or Welker, I see him, again, being a Brian Hartline type with Mary becoming the All-Pro due to getting at least two to three times the targets. As far as Deckers "drops" this season, Jordy went through the same thing in 2010 (remember the Super Bowl?) and he was never phased out by ARodgers, even though many in the Caste-media and the DWF's wanted him to be.

Opposite of Favre could be Peyton Manning, who has never had problems throwing to his best available receiver -- even whites. From Dallas Clark and Ken Dilger and Jacob Tamme at tight end. He also helped make Stokely and Collie borderline stars at receiver...You can also throw in lesser known types like Trevor Insley and Blair White who the open minded Peyton refused to "completely ignore", like some white QB's would've. Where did Blair White disappear to this season without Peyton, who throws to his best receivers, period?

****

As far as the Pats versus the Broncos: According to Ourlads depth charts the Broncos have 11 whites (counting P, PK & LS)...Only 4 non special teamers figure to the field this week if Decker is out. By the way, considering how Decker has been phased out, it probably won't matter if he plays or not -- he won't make an impact. Actually he hasn't made any impact in over two months....

Patriots have 21 whites (counting P, PK & LS). My guess is something like 13 or 14 non special teamers will likely see decent playing time. 11 or 12 have actually started games and don't forget 3 more whites that have started games this year are on IR (LB Tarpinian, DE M. Wright and OC Koppen) and two more current white P-squad members have played in several games on defense (Ventrone & Silvestro).

Rooting for Denver over N.E. would ALMOST be like rooting for the Cowboys over the Bills in the early 1990's because they had Aikman and Novacek....

I'm going to delete the posts in this thread concerning the issue that had some of our well respected members going at each other. For one it's way off topic, for another it is pointless arguing. I myself don't mind the discussion so if you wish to continue start a Happy Hour thread about it. Thanks.

I'll be rooting for the White athletes on every team left.

Blaming Tebow for phasing out Decker is ridiculous (is Brady responsible for phasing out Woodead?) because Tim barely has a hold of the starting job and has to run the plays called and if he doesn't he'll have to answer to it in the film room. Once Tim is more entrenched as the starter he'll have the ability to freelance. Also in the option offense Fox installed the WR's are used mostly as blockers and decoys so it's going to be hard for any WR to have great stats which is why Denver had to trade Lloyd because he wanted none of that, he'd rather have better stats and lose. Hopefully next year Fox will create a more balanced offense and Decker can get back into the game because Denver needs his talent to win.

Brady can't be "phasing out" Woodhead, because Danny's rarely on the field, compared to the way he was last year. That's obviously the coaches doing. When Woodhead is on the field, his QB has no problem throwing him the ball. Remember, he's splitting time at tailback with 2 or even 3 other backs this season. Imagine what his numbers would like if he was just splitting time with Ellis (i.e 2010) or starting and playing a ton?

Last time I checked, Decker was a full time starter and, as I noted before his stats since the Jets game tell the story: 1.3 catches per game, 20 yards per game and just 1 TD total. Here was a guy on pace for 60-65 catches, over 900 yards and 13 to 15 TD's at mid-season. We'll see what happens going forward. Hopefully Elway's Grambing Broncos will get spanked tommorow night and we wont have to talk about this for a while.

BTY, until Doug Williams took over at Grambling and vowed to only recruit black QB's, the Tigers used to start white QB's from time to time. There was even a TV movie made about this in the latter part of the 70's, I believe. It wasn't that long ago (1990's) that both Grambling Southern started Jewish qb's at the Bayou Classic, drawing significant rage and venom in the black community**. All the SWAC schools are known to have the occasional starting white center or guard and white punters and kickers at these schools have always been fairly common. Hence, Tebow really does play for the Grambling Broncos...or Alcorn State Broncos, take your pick?

Woodhead was on the field quite a bit on passing downs, for instance he played 35 snaps against the Redskins, 8 were runs, he had one catch, against the Giants 41 snaps, 7 were runs, 3 were catches, against the Cowboys 28 snaps, 4 runs 2 catches, only Lawfirm had more snaps in that one, with 29. So there were plenty of times that Woodhead was on the field that Brady didn't look his way, probably because he was the last read.

When DT came back he was the primary target on most plays, meaning he was the first read. The plays switched over from Decker being the main read to DT. Tebow hasn't advanced enough to go through his reads like Brady/Rodgers/Brees, although that will come in time. He usually locks onto the primary read. The coaches call the plays up. He doesn't have the trust of his coaches to change plays up at the line on the same level as the top qbs.

Interesting and informative as well as insightful. Unfortunately your posts are hard to read because, like Thrashen, you continue to use an avatar that makes me turn away from the screen in disgust.

Is that a jew and a negro too!!! I had to change my own avatar when I couldn't stand seeing the picture next to my posts. Did I start this?!?

Is that the case at MEAC schools like Delaware State, Morgan State, Howard, etc.?

How about D2 Cheyney in southeast PA (the only HBCU in the PA State Athletic Conference)?

Gentlemen, thanks for the feedback. This isn't a topic I know a lot about, but I do know the SWAC and MEAC schools actively try to recruit white athletes as most of these state schools have to abide by "strict" federal desegregation laws. I believe these schools must have at least 10% minority enrollment in most states, so they use athletics as a way to recruit more minorities (whites).

I would say white athletes are very rare in HBCU basketball. In football, white punters and kickers are commonplace. White quarterbacks, centers and guards are not the norm, but they are not extremely rare either. I brought this up, because I recall when the vile Terry Bowden coached at Auburn, both Grambling and Southern had more whites starting than Auburn did a few years. Hence my frequent referrals to the Grambling Broncos or the Alcorn State Steelers.

Here's a story from the odious Jemele Hill on a fringe NFL QB prospect that played at JSU last year:

They call him "White Tiger" or "Blue-Eyed Soul Brother" -- nicknames that make Casey Therriault chuckle.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/news/story?page=hill/101025

Perhaps the reason ESPN loves "White Tiger" so much, is because while hanging out with a bunch of blacks and hispanics, he murdered a white kid?

I know in other sports (mens and womens), whites are even more common at these HBCU schools. Particularly in sports like baseball, softball, golf, tennis, swimming, ect. The best college catcher in America in 2011 was a white kid named Peter O'Brien from Bethune-Cookman. He was drafted in round 3 by the Rockies, but decided to stay in school -- he left for the University of Miami last summer, hoping to be a first round pick. Don't be surprised to see him in the Majors fairly soon?

Here's a link from last summer. The majority of HBCU players (3 of 5) drafted in the top 30 rounds last summer where whites -- O'Brien, Frazier and Cody Hall.

I know this is a bit of topic, but felt compelled to answer the replies best I could. So yes, it is sad that some of these schools like the Florida Gators in 2011 have less white starters (one) in football than the SWAC and MEAC schools. Perhaps "stunning" should be a better than sad?

Tiki Barber, right after retiring and hoping to get a plum job at Faux News or Good Morning America, heads to Israel to meet Shimon Peres. One could ask why he would do it, but I'd bet most CF posters dont even need to ask why?

I recall an ESPN short 10 minute segment on the death of baseball in the Black community and one coach said if he could recruit Black baseball players he would. I think his roster was 80 percent White and he said if he relied on Black players the program would have to fold. These days on fringe prospects play in the SWAC, undersized guys or guys who started football late.

Yes, that's probably true in some cases, but I would bet most SWAC and MEAC schools have mostly black (over 50/50 black) baseball teams. My guess is their "stars" are white or hispanic, then the balance of their rosters are filled with black players. This is sort of the opposite of modern SEC football schools which have 16 to 20 black starters, but tons of white walk-ons and backup special teams types.

By the way, below is a photo of Bethune-Cookman's womans golf team. My guess is many here at CF would be shocked, but this is fairly standard at HBCU schools in golf, tennis and swimming. One thing that must be noted, most of these scholarship athletes at HBCU schools in these "fringe sports" are from Europe and elsewhere in the world -- particularly the girls. I wonder if they even realize what they are getting into? Or are they just happy for a U.S. atheltic scholarship?
