Gentlemen, thanks for the feedback. This isn't a topic I know a lot about, but I do know the SWAC and MEAC schools actively try to recruit white athletes as most of these state schools have to abide by "strict" federal desegregation laws. I believe these schools must have at least 10% minority enrollment in most states, so they use athletics as a way to recruit more minorities (whites).
I would say white athletes are very rare in HBCU basketball. In football, white punters and kickers are commonplace. White quarterbacks, centers and guards are not the norm, but they are not extremely rare either. I brought this up, because I recall when the vile Terry Bowden coached at Auburn, both Grambling and Southern had more whites starting than Auburn did a few years. Hence my frequent referrals to the Grambling Broncos or the Alcorn State Steelers.
Here's a story from the odious Jemele Hill on a fringe NFL QB prospect that played at JSU last year:
They call him "White Tiger" or "Blue-Eyed Soul Brother" -- nicknames that make Casey Therriault chuckle.

Perhaps the reason ESPN loves "White Tiger" so much, is because while hanging out with a bunch of blacks and hispanics, he murdered a white kid?

I know in other sports (mens and womens), whites are even more common at these HBCU schools. Particularly in sports like baseball, softball, golf, tennis, swimming, ect.
The best college catcher in America in 2011 was a white kid named Peter O'Brien from Bethune-Cookman. He was drafted in round 3 by the Rockies, but decided to stay in school -- he left for the University of Miami last summer, hoping to be a first round pick. Don't be surprised to see him in the Majors fairly soon?
Here's a link from last summer. The majority of HBCU players (3 of 5) drafted in the top 30 rounds last summer where whites -- O'Brien, Frazier and Cody Hall.

I know this is a bit of topic, but felt compelled to answer the replies best I could. So yes, it is sad that some of these schools like the Florida Gators in 2011 have less white starters (one) in football than the SWAC and MEAC schools. Perhaps "stunning" should be a better than sad?

a picture is worth a million words. What can you say about my avatar. Tiki Barber, right after retiring and hoping to get a plum job at Faux News or Good Morning America, heads to Israel to meet Shimon Peres. One could ask why he would do it, but I'd bet most CF posters dont even need to ask why?
