Well like ex Pat DC Matt Patricia coming off a bad SB the optics aren't great coming off the Rams loss for QB coach Zac Taylor. I have deep reservations about these QB coaches ( leave it to the Bengals) but we will have to wait and see what happens to all these new coaches including Pats DC Brian Flores who is now the head man at Miami.
I know CF member Tannehill is concerned and he should especially since Miami has been a scattershot mainly caste team for quite some time even if you factor in say WR Brian Hartline's time there.
But a few things. I cannot remember a time where I will be looking more forward to the offseason moves. For one thing there will likely be several solid white WRs on the market including Cole Beasley, Adam Humphries and possibly Chris Hogan and I would hope the environment has changed enough where they will become focal point starters and not treated like riff raff which was the case in the past with a lot of FA white WRs.
And whether it be Flores, Taylor, Jon Gruden and so many other "new" head coaches the best way to determine their caste pedigree is through the draft. If they go all Matt Nagy on us then we know damn well which way the wind is blowing. Even though the white WR draft situation is sticky and still a bit unresolved in terms of numbers and the fear that both of the top white RBs might be ignored (I have Patrick Laird penciled in as a Burkhead clone) I think and hope this draft will be better than average particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Which coaches will show some guts? For instance will anyone step out and say "we want our own Taysom Hill" and draft either Trace McSorley or Nick Fitzgerald which to me would be a smart thing. Look how well it worked for the Saints. Who if anyone will step out of the caste straight jacket and draft with exciting imagination? Who if anyone will take a late round white WR/KR/PR speedster who isn't a combine invite? Lot of questions to be answered soon. Time will tell. In the past I am usually disappointed and underwhelmed but like a fool every year I hold out hope especially in light of the uplifting Patriots SB win.
So we will not only be watching but we should be able to determine who the caste-a-holics are in a relatively short time.
About Adam Gase. Nothing against him and he doesn't seem awful in caste terms but I wouldn't say excellent either. What bothers me is he drafts one of the best pure athletes in the draft in TE Mike Gesicki and he didn't know how to use him. Especially in this day and age where TEs like George Kittle being used properly and thriving. Gesicki is the best athlete on the Dolphins. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the offense should run through him since he runs like the wind and can leap small buildings.
But again everyone of these new coaches and the older coaches too will be in our spotlight come FA moves and the draft. After the dust has settled we will be able to sort out the caste frauds from the coaches who desire more diversity on their roster which has kept the Patriots on top of the mountain for a long time.
Going down the caste hole just seems like a losing proposition these days in light of everything.
Remember caste soaked Alabama got beat by Clemson who was more white friendly.
