Not to change the subject but we have star shortstops Henderson and Witt going tonight in the Home Run Derby along with Bohm and Alonso.

Also of note, Trea Turner went on an absolute tear in July hitting .417 with 8 HRs. His OPS was 1.368. His .349 average would place him second in the majors, although he doesn’t have the requisite PAs to make the leaderboard.

Another guy to root for in the second half…

Colt Keith, 22 year old 2nd baseman for the Tigers, was having an awful season but came in strong in July hitting .370 with 5 HRs and a whopping 1.267 OPS. Let’s hope he keeps it up.

Both solid picks! The hotdog topped with pot roast and pierogi's in Pittsburgh caught my attention.

Mike Trout is going to start his rehab assignment on Tuesday. It has been three months since he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

I don't believe we've ever mention Rockies CF Brenton Doyle on the forum. The 26 year old is another power & speed guy in the mold of say Bobby Witt Jr. In only his 2nd season in the bigs, Doyle has 16 homers and 20 stolen bases with a WAR of 3. He's also batting a very respectable .278 and plays a solid center field. Another good young player to key an eye on.

Nice find! I know Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was named player of the game for last weeks all star game. Admittedly I haven’t watch much baseball at all this season. I do like the orioles roster though.

Solid year for Doyle. Good to see Rockies replace Blackmon with a young white talent

Another young White outfielder - Jackson Merrill is having a stand out rookie season at 21 years of age. .284/100 hits/45 runs/12 home runs/49 rbis and 10 SBs. Nice find on a very overrated team filled with underperforming central and south american players.

Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal gives up a first inning 2-run home run and then settles down to get the win and is now 12-3 with a 2.35 ERA. He is currently the MLB leader in WAR for pitchers.

Also of note, 22 year-old second baseman Colt Keith had a triple and a HR and continues to have a scorching July with an OPS over 1.100.

The Orioles 20 year old Jackson Holliday was called back up to the Majors and hit his first MLB HR. A Grand Slam!! Hopefully he stays for good this time!

The O’s have been interesting to track as they have had an over abundance of non-pitcher White top prospects. It was creating a bit of a logjam but they traded Kyle Stowers and Connor Norby to the Marlins for pitching so hopefully they can the opportunity to shine there. Gunnar Henderson and Jordan Westburg (sadly just broke his hand) are already established as all-stars. This season Colton Cowser and Heston Kjerstad have been getting their chance in the outfield. Holliday is back up and rumor has it Colby Mayo is getting a call up soon now that Westburg is hurt. Mayo is their top position prospect still in the minors and is a 3B / 1B prospects. Another power bat that could be a daunting figure in the majors soon.

Mike Trout has apparently re-injured his knee, ending his 2024 season after 29 games. What looked like a career that would one day put him in the inner circle of all-time greats is rapidly approaching a "what-if" fork in the road in his early thirties. He hasn't played anything resembling a full season since 2019, and dreams of Mantle and Mays-like career totals seem less and less likely every day. Really tragic stuff, and I feel just awful for him.

per ESPN:

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout suffered another meniscus tear in his surgically repaired left knee and will not play the remainder of this season, yet another crushing development for the generational superstar who has been significantly hampered by injuries in recent years.

In a post to social media Thursday, Trout wrote that an MRI a day earlier "showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again -- ending my hopes of returning this season."

Bobby Witt Jr. became the first player in MLB history to record 20 HR's and 20 steals in his first three seasons.

Some great July performances…

Bobby Witt Jr., KC, AL Player of the Month
The Royals’ superstar just wrapped up a month the likes of which we haven’t seen in nearly a century. He finished with 44 hits and a .489 average; the last player to at least match those marks in a calendar month was Lou Gehrig in June 1930. Witt accrued 2.7 fWAR during the month, which would rank inside the top 40 for the entire season. Witt’s monster month also included seven home runs and an MLB-best 1.353 OPS. He is the first Royal to earn Player of the Month honors since Billy Butler in September 2009.

Brenton Doyle, COL, NL Player of the Month
Doyle struggled in June, recording a .543 OPS. But as soon as the calendar flipped, so did his results. He opened July with a five-game stretch that included four homers and 27 total bases. No player had more dingers (11) or extra-base hits (19) in July than the Rockies’ center fielder. He slashed .333/.394/.800 and drove in 27 runs during the month.

Dylan Cease, SD, NL Pitcher of the Month
Speaking of not allowing many hits, Cease authored the second no-hitter in Padres franchise history on July 25 against the Nationals. He had been flirting with history in his two previous starts as he gave up only one hit in each leading into his no-no. This spectacular three-start string also featured 30 strikeouts, making Cease the first pitcher since at least 1901 with 30 or more K’s and two or fewer hits allowed over a three-outing span.

Colt Keith, DET, AL Rookie of the Month
MLB Pipeline’s No. 22 prospect at the season’s outset, the 22-year-old Keith put together a .322/.404/.644 slash line last month. That high on-base percentage can be attributed to Keith’s 12 walks, which were only three fewer than his walk total through the season’s first three-plus months. Seven of his 11 homers also came during July.

Tyler Fitzgerald, SF, NL Rookie of the Month
Fitzgerald put himself in the Giants history books with an unbelievable homer streak in July. He became the first rookie in franchise history to go deep in five consecutive games. He also homered seven times in eight games and eight times in 10, feats only Barry Bonds had achieved in the past 20 years. On the whole, the 26-year-old registered an .849 slugging percentage and a 1.239 OPS in July.

Tanner Scott, MIA/SD, NL Reliever of the Month
Scott increased his value leading up to the Trade Deadline by posting 9 2/3 scoreless innings with one hit and 15 strikeouts in July. That hit came in Scott’s final appearance with the Marlins before he was acquired by the Padres on July 30. Scott, who owns a 1.18 ERA through 45 2/3 innings this season, has made 17 consecutive scoreless appearances, dating back to June 17.

Great summary Snow Plow! Nice to see other members as interested in baseball as I am. I just haven't been able to post as much lately.

The Orioles 6'3 220lb. SS, Gunnar Henderson is 10-21 in his last 5 games HR and 5 RBI, 7 runs. the 23 year old is definitely the star of Baltimore, but the Orioles have so much young talent.
Jackson Holliday 20, is 7-18, 2 HR's and 7 RBI's during his second call up. It looks like he's in MLB to stay!
Jordan Westburg, 25 18 HR's
Adley Rutschman, 26 17 HR's
Colton Cowser, 24 16 HR's
Ryan Mountcastle, 27 16 HR's
Heston Kjersted 25
Holliday, 20.
Coby Mayo, 22
Henderson 23, 29 HR's
