We are almost to the 3rd round and there is still no interest in Hass.This really pisses me off.They are drafting kids out of small schools but no team has the intelligence to draft the leading receiver in the country.Mike Hass deserves better.I hope he gets drafted soon and goes to a team that will actually play him.

i am so pissed off at Bucs for not drafting Hass in third round, they took this Stovall kid from ND who will probably end up like the last black wr from Irish that Tampa picked couple of years ago, Cooper, dropping out of the league...

Hass seems to be mentally tough, and this is just the latest example of him having to prove himself. i think he will do what he has always done...show these negrophiles that they missed out. again.

he has everything a receiver needs to dominate in the NFL, except, of course, all the extra melanin in his skin. and we know how much that helps catch a pigskin.

Hass, Bloom, Bergeron, LaTandresse, Madsen, Anderson, etc. have to come to practice/play with a grudge every day in order to get a shot. let's hope they can mentally survive the culture shock, because physically they ALL have what it takes.Edited by: Jimmy Chitwood

I read part of an article on DD. It seems Bush vouched for Hass and told the Saints that he would be a good pick.I think that is pretty cool that Bush has seen Mike's talent first hand being PAC-10 rivals and speaks up for him.

Classy move on Bush's part to publically compliment Hass on his talent. It's still a shame, however, that Hass wan't drafted until the 6th round. What a waste. Sometimes you gotta wonder what goes through a coaches/G.M.'s head. Hass is, however, entirely too talented to be relegated to bench duty. But, he's White, so...well, we know how this story plays out.

I sent them a rather simple email so that their little heads don't hurt. It reads as follows:

I can't believe that your site says that Mike Hass "never lived up to his billing" in college. He came to Oregon State as a WALK ON and proceeded to lead the nation in receiving. What a ridiculous thing to say.

The most catches a receiver drafted by Shanahan has had in a season is 54, by Lelie in 2004.


The list of first-round failures is endless. Sylvester Morris (Kansas City, 2000 draft), Freddie Mitchell (Philadelphia, 2001), David Terrell (Chicago, 2001), Soward (Jacksonville, 2000) and Rod Gardner (Washington, 2001) headline the list of recent failures. Eleven of the 16 first-round receivers taken between 2000 and 2003 haven't or won't get second contracts from the teams that drafted them. Of the other five, Reggie Wayne is the only one to have actually secured a new deal. I played against Chris Cole in high school. He was very fast, but didn't have the best hands. The wide receiver who started opposite of him, Toby Foreman, was actually a much better high school player in my opinion. He is White and naturally received no interest from Div. 1 schools. A friend of mine covered and contained Cole rather well. He's now in the army. He also received zero interest. I don't hold this against Chris Cole. I met him at the district track meet. He seemed like a pretty nice guy. He smoked me in the 100, but if I remember right, he came in second behind a White guy named John Hoffpauer.

3 TCU athletes, including Green Bay Packers forth round pick Cory Rodgers, brawl with suspected gang members.

DD.com comment: Rodgers ran a snail like 4.73 40 for a 5' 11" receiver/return specialist at his Pro Day, yet was still drafted in round 4. This surprised us, considering how much NFL teams claim to be obsessed with speed. Anyway, Rodgers shouldn't "push his luck" too much, with off field issues. Way we see it, he already lucked out being picked in the 4th round.

The glowing reports coming out of New Orleans seem to be adding some stature to Mike's possible success in the NFL. As someone who participates in several rookie fantasy football drafts this time of year and monitors others, Hass's perceived value to fantasy football afficienados is growing. In my unscientific survey, Hass's ADP (average draft position) started off in the sixth round in the first drafts (which is the last round of most rookie drafts), and has since slowly moved up to the fifth and then fourth round. A premium service I subscribe to ranks him as the 8th best WR taken in the draft, not bad considering that two dozen or so went before him.


I think he is in a potentially very good situation if Brees is fully recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered in the last regular season game in '05. Horn is old and may or may not still have a good year left in him. Stallworth finally had a decent year last year but he is very inconsistent and has bad hands. Additionally he isn't overly blessed in the intelligence department. Brees is a very brainy quarterback who specializes in reading defenses well and throwing very accurate short and medium range passes. That sounds like a very good potential meshing with Hass's skills of getting open and finding spaces for Brees to throw to. With both their brain power, Brees' accuracy and Hass's tremendous hands and willingness to go over the middle, I can see a strong Brees to Hass connection being forged. Of course, the Saints have to give Mike the opportunity to be the great receiver he is for that to happen.

I have also read reports on KFFL that Stallworth is not doing much to impress Payton and might be in his doghouse. This also bodes well for Hass.

Bad news for Haas. The Saints just traded for Bethel Johnson from the Patriots. Not that he is very good, but you can almost read the coaches mind on this one.

All Bethel Jonhson really did was return kicks if I am not mistaken. He is not really much of a WR. Maybe it is a security plan if Micheal Lewis is still injured.

Johnson is primarily a kick returner so it is a puzzling move unless Lewis has a serious injury. Johnson only has 30 career receptions in 3 seasons -- 16 in '03, 10 in '04 and only 4 last year. He is supposed to have "blinding speed" but I note his career average per receptions is 15.0 yards while the career average of supposed "slug" Brian Finneran is 14.2.

Bears signed wide receivers Mike Hass and Brandon Rideau, tight end Richard Angulo, guard Tyler Reed, defensive end Copeland Bryan, and tackle Mark LeVoir and allocated them to NFL Europa.
Hass couldn't make the Saints as a sixth-round pick (a round ahead of Marques Colston) last year and landed on Chicago's practice squad. He has an outside shot to take free agent Justin Gage's roster spot in 2007.


Believe it or not I looked up Gage's 40 time and he ran a 4.65 at the combine. How he's ahead of the faster Hass 4.59 combine, 4.56 Proday ( and best 3 cone time of all WR's at Proday), who has far better credentials is sheer reverse racism. It's unfortunate Lovie Smith is a caste-system zealot!

Berrian really sticks out there, because he caught some long TD passes from Rex Grossman in the first half of '06 after previously being a dud, which caused the media to quickly resort to its full array of for-blacks-only adjectives to describe him-- "dazzling speed," "blinding speed," "blazing speed," "electric," etc.


All the 4.7 guys were high draft picks except for Wilford, who went in the 4th round. White guys with 4.7-4.8 speed are only invited to the Combine if they're offensive linemen or punters. Edited by: Don Wassall

I'm a big 40 time buff all the times I get are courtesy of NFLdraftscout.com: by 4.6 range: I mean 4.55-4.64
by 4.7 range: I mean 4.65-4.74

And your right Don the only white guy to get drafted in the 1st three rounds at WR in recent memory that has speed in the 4.6 range was 6'5 Joe Jurevicius from Penn state (rd. 2 pick 25 by the Giants in 1998). If I'm not mistaken he ran in the upper 4.5's. I'm also willing to bet if he was 6 foot instead of 6'5, he may not have even been drafted. The Giants under Fossil were a more white friendly team yet never gave Joe or Sean Bennett much of a chance. With Bennett it was partially due to injuries though. Jurevicius is 32 now and only got his first starting time two seasons ago in Seattle because of injuries. It shows how hard it is for a white WR to crack a starting lineup even if he's a second round pick.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins
