i think it has to do with matt jones being more apathetic than being dumb, that combined with a not so great quarterback. like i said i think hes finally growing up and wants to play well

I think it has more to do with him being white. Since when has the NFL cared if wrs were apathetic? Randy Moss anyone? Of course if white players show emotion they are labeled a lockeroom pariah - a selfish player. How bout Jeremy Shockey.

The Wonderlic is not a pure intelligence test. It's a test where very quick reading skills help you out greatly b/c there is a short time limit. It is smart to actually study for this test and you can't be overly meticulous b/c you have to really manage your time. Vince Young got a pathetic 6 or 7 on the test which is one of the lowest scores ever, but blamed it on a headache and having "no time to study". If I recall something like 16 or so of the top 20 Wonderlic scores at the Combine (nfldraftscout.com) were from white men, 3 were black, 1 looked mixed.

Thanks to attrition, injuries and poor performance, Jones is currently slated to start this Sunday along with Reggie Williams. And really that's as it should be. Williams is a first round pick who was a bust despite lots of opportunity but finally came on last season. Jones is a first round pick who has not had nearly the same opportunity butwho looked very good in training camp. Of course there's always time for Jack Del Rio to promote one of his scrubs over Jones, or sign a black journeyman as a free agent to the shouts of joy of the drunk white fans and immediately annoint him the starter over Jones.

And malcontent Jerry Porter finally started practicing the other day after missing all of training camp with injury, so as soon as he's ready this over-rated mediocre receiver who is always treated like a star will likely be promoted over Matt.Edited by: Don Wassall

Look for an explosive start from Matt. This is the first actual chance he is getting to start. After everything he had to go through to get this, not only during this summer, but through his whole career, I see him exploding out of the gates.

Look for the best wide receiver numbers of the week. I predict 150 yards and 2 touchdowns. Many of you might think I am being way over optimistic, but I truly believe that he can post these numbers this week. We'll all have to see, whatever his performance I think we all wish Matt good luck this season, hopefully this is the one.

I also think Garrard is turning into a serviceable QB. He seems to have a good feel for running the offense. He's not the most accurate guy but gets the job done. Funny how Kevin Curtis was one of the best white receivers with a black QB and Jones could be that too.

As I predicted Matt came out strong from the get go. He didn't have as monster day as I thought he would ,but that was to the lack of proper quarterbacking.

Hopefully this performance was enough to make him a permanent starter even when Porter gets back.

Matt can easily surpass 1000 yards if they utilize his skill set proprely.

Two Jaguars linemen went down in game 1. Things could get rough for Garrard, making it harder for Jones to get long pass plays.

I found this blurb on a fantasy site: "once Jerry Porter is ready to play, Jones has no value."

A former first round draft choice who is 6-6 with great speed andwhose first two seasons weren't bad considering how he was used, has a strong training camp and leads his team in receiving in the opening game yet has "no value" as soon as the legendary Jerry Porter, who has never had a thousand yard season in his career, is ready to go. I hope the Jags continue to have to go with Jones and that he's their leading receiver all season-- and then signs with another team as I hope this is his contract year.

God I hate the NFL. The next thing we know Welker will get replaced when Cassel has a preference for Gaffney over him. Sounds far fetched but not in the NFL.

Well truly Welker getting replaced is very unlikely, but if the Eagles go with Desean Jackson, they may decide it will make their WR corps too short to also start Curtis and move Baskett, Lewis or keep Brown as the number two. Curtis might be moved to the slot. The NFL= pure racism, but the media gives it a B+ for diversity.

Don,

Like you said, you found it on a fantasy site!

The Jags signed one loser from the Raiders, Jerry Porter, and then the Raiders signed another loser, Javon Walker, to replace him. Their respective teams must be living in fantasy land if they expect them to put up even productive seasons in 2008. I`d be surprised if either of them is playing in the NFL in 2010.

Mattfires back-- and gets out a funny line while he's at it -- in response to Joey Porter's (likely racially motivated) attack on him:

Jaguars wide receiver thinks Porter should mind his own business

Jacksonville receiver Matt Jones snapped back at Joey Porter on Thursday, a day after the outspoken Miami Dolphins linebacker questioned how Jones could still be playing despite having a felony cocaine charge against him earlier this year.

"I don't even know why he's even thinking about me," Jones said. "I mean, maybe he likes other men and sits up and thinks about stuff, so I don't know. ... Is Joey Porter the commissioner? Then why would I even worry about it?"

On a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Porter responded to a question about the NFL's crackdown on hits deemed illegal and dangerous by saying he was "still trying to figure out how a guy gets caught with cocaine in his car and still plays the game and nothing happens."

"How does he get away with that?" added Porter, fined $20,000 last month for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli after a loss to Houston. "And then you fine people $20,000 for making comments to the media about the refs. The guy got caught with cocaine."

In July, Jones was charged with cocaine possession when a police officer in Fayetteville, Ark., saw him inside a parked car allegedly cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

Last month, Jones agreed to enter into a drug treatment program that could erase the felony charge against him.

The NFL suspended Jones for three games, but he appealed the suspension and is awaiting a final decision.

This is great (and rare) to see a white stand up to a racist black and put him in his place. Porter runs his mouth about everyone and against everything, but this instance with Matt Jones was clearly race motivated. Or perhaps Porter simply can't stop thinking about other men

Matt Jones probably earned more respect today by missing the game against Tennessee with an injury than if he had played. Garrard threw for only 135 yards and Jones' replacement, the 9-year bust who still is regarded by the DWFs as a "star," Jerry Porter, caught 2 balls for 24 yards. Remember all the articles about how Jones had "zero value" just as soon as Porter was (finally) healthy? The acquisition of Porter and Troy Williamson (who makes Porter look like Steve Largent by comparison) was supposed to convert Jones into waiver wire material. Wrong!

Hahaha, I knew Don would comment on this when I saw Porter's stats, he hates Jerry Porter's hype train as much as any!

Jacksonville might want to hang on to MJ after this year....seeing as he's been their only semblance of consistency on offense. I would love to see Jones move on and become a star and leave Del Rio in his pathetic, losing, caste-wonderland. That would be justice.

now if only Jones had a QB like Cutler or Brady, someone that can throw an accurate bomb down the field, ability that Gerrard, sadly, lacks. it's not to say he's not a decent game manager, but that's about all you can say about Jax QB.

Read this pathetic article by this caste clown saying what Matt Jones did is maybe more reckless than Plaxico. This may have to do with the double standard for white players.

Yeah being a coke addict is more dangerous than accidentally firing an unregistered semi automatic weapon off at a night club with hundreds of people around...go figure.

NFL receivers Plaxico Burress, Matt Jones catch heat at different speeds
Jones plays on, but fellow WR Burress' punishment swift

David Haugh | On the Bears
10:30 PM CST, December 4, 2008

Somebody explain how Jaguars leading receiver Matt Jones likely will be in uniform Sunday at Soldier Field for the 12th time this season while Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress will continue his go route out of the league.

As anybody with cable knows by now, Burress is the numbskull who shot himself in a New York City nightclub with a gun he shouldn't have been carrying. Now he should pay accordingly. But Jones matched, and maybe even surpassed, Burress' recklessness when police arrested him while he allegedly was cutting up cocaine in his car with buddies.

The Burress incident occurred last Friday, and within four days the Giants had placed him on the non-football injury list to end his season. The Jones arrest was July 10, and the Jaguars have kept him active every game but the one in which he sat out with a thigh injury.

He was in New York on Thursday to appeal a three-game league suspension that has taken five months and counting to enforce.

Bears Looking for Answers in Passing Game Video Burress faces up to 31/2 years in prison, if convicted. Jones heard applause in the courtroom when an Arkansas judge in October ordered him into a drug-treatment program.

If Jones makes an impact in Sunday's game, whom will you blame more for not doing its job with more swiftness: the Bears' secondary or the league office?

It's almost like Jones' suspension has been delayed as long as possible so that it can constantly be kept in the news. Matt's arrest and (thus far) non-suspension has been mentioned and discussed as often as therandom arrests of any 50 affletes combined.

True. All the while, Marvin Harrison skates by with very little scrutiny.

Good points, Don and Bart! I hadn't thought about it that way. Nary a word about Harrison, although he hasn't been charged of the shooting yet.The old double standard is always there.

Here's another take on the issue:

thanks to all who commented on the Mcguffie video i made, this is the second highlight video I have made so far, this one of Matt Jones of mostly this year although some previous seasons. I have still yet to buy the program so the waterlogo is on there for a few seconds but i will reupload it when i finally buy it. Im waiting to get a new computer and i think you can only register it for one computer only. Any feedback is appreciated.

i really think jones can have a breakout year next year, he was on pace to get to 1,000 yards i believe, i just wish they would utilize him more as a deep threat than have him running routes that do not suite his ability the best
