Truly bizarre. Matt Jones is a phenomenal player. Could have been a primer QB, still can be now that the Wildcat is all the rage.

Chris Mortensen says that Matt Jones is an amazing athlete and player, but lacks the "work ethic" to really shine in the league.
I can't believe a team has not signed Jones.
Very few teams will rock the PC race boat. Let's see if cnnsi or black loving espn mentions anything about this when Vick signs with someone.

I just did a search to see if any NFL teams are showing any interest in Matt Jones. Apparently not, but I did find these gems. I didn't think it was possible, even for the affirmative action-driven NFL and its legions of white player-hating DWFs, but he may be out of the league for good after drinking a few beers during a golf outing following a season in which he led the Jacksonville in receiving:

If Larry Johnson resurrects his career, it will be somewhere else. I doubt he can at this point, by the way. He's about as wanted as Matt Jones and Travis Henry are nowadays.

We're not sure how credible this list is, but it's hard argue against the notion that former Arkasas quarterback Matt Jones has been a bust so far.
Jones' statistical production was pretty weak for his four seasons in Jacksonville considering his first round draft status. Plus, his cocaine arrest/failed alcohol test and subsequet probation violation hasn't helped his cause.

Entering 2009, the Jacksonville Jaguars were hoping that Matt Jones would have a breakout season. In turn, Jones broke out all sorts of banned substances that culminated in him being the biggest bust in the Jaguars' short franchise history.

It's not surprising that Bears GM Jerry Angelo isn't interested in signing Matt Jones. He's satisfied with the hands of stone losers the team plays at receiver year after year. Lovie Smith wouldn't stand for it either.

Don't expect the Chicago Bears to pursue free-agent receiver Matt Jones

By Vaughn McClure

Bears general manager Jerry Angelo wants to explore every option in terms of upgrading the team. But don't expect the Bears to make a serious run at free-agent receiver Matt Jones.

When asked about Jones during a community visit in Waukegan Wednesday afternoon, Angelo seemed to have reservations about adding the former Jacksonville Jaguar.

"He was a first-round draft pick and he is a very talented player," Angelo said, "but it's case by case. We're not quick to move on any player."

No doubt the Bears are concerned about Jones' checkered past, one that included an arrest for cocaine possession last July. Jones, 26, served a three-game league suspension after losing an appeal. After violating terms of a court-mandated drug program by consuming alcohol, he was arrested again and faced further disciplinary action for the 2009 season. But the league decided not to impose another suspension, although Jones was fined $50,000.

In recent years, the Bears cut ties with two players due to off-the-field concerns: running back Cedric Benson and defensive lineman Tank Johnson.

"Guys make mistakes, move on, and become better people," Angelo said. "Some guys have patterns of bad behavior and continue to have those patterns. I'm not saying that about Matt Jones. What I'm saying is we have to do our homework. And then you have to look at what value that person brings to your football team irrelevant of his off-the-field issues."

There are concerns about Jones' production. The 6-foot-6-inch, 218-pounder is not a "special" player and struggled at times in Jacksonville, although Jones caught 65 passes for 761 yards in just 12 games last season. The Jaguars released him in March.

Agent Dave Butz said he has been contacted by several teams but declined to name those teams. Butz also has reached out to measure the interest level in Jones.

"We feel very confident about Matt's prospects for a great upcoming season, but we have not reached the point where we are ready to publicly discuss the interest levels of specific teams," Butz said.

Angelo remains confident in the Bears receiving corps as is, particulary when he factors in the production he expects from tight ends Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark.

Somebody will sign this guy, he's just too talented and had too much production last season to be out of the league for drinking a beer. I think the Cowboys will sign him or the Raiders make a headline splash and sign Vick and Jones on the same day. The Giants should be first in line for him, Eli misses his tall WR Plaxico Burris and Matt Jones is a white version of him except alot faster and not near the troublemaker..

I read an article about Jones today online while at work. The writer said Jones is a "possession receiver" without deep speed. Last time I checked a guy who runs a 4.3 has great deep speed.

A while back one online writer said Jones lacked competition speed. I haven't seen evidence of it.

Btw, it was like music to my ears when I read Jones has been working out six hours a day in the article Don posted. He has been tagged as lazy in addition to everything else. Jerry Jones is an absolute wimp if he doesn't sign Matt. Most of these owners, Gms and coaches do not possess much intestinal fortitude to begin with.

Funny you mention Dallas quiet speed. The writer said Jones would be the fourth wideout on that team. Here is the link http://nflblogs.profootballweekly.com/AroundtheNFL/2009/05/matt_jones_might_do_right_by_a.html

It's odd how the white skill players that survive in the NFL are always characterized as "overachievers," like say John Lynch. They get to play special teams for many years sometimes. The ones with undeniably exceptional talent like Matt Jones must have some minor "character" issue that only affects white athletes. It's like the reverse of sickle cell anaemia. How many times was Jones benched for offensive interference? I don't know, but I bet he holds the record for that. It reminds me of how Jason Sehorn "failed" a physical with the Rams and how Luke Staley supposedly "lacked" toughness.

funny how youtube all of a sudden took down my Matt Jones highlight video on youtube after all of this talk

Aggravating- b/c I had made many great arguments on that video for white NFL skill players. dwid, did you see that idiot post saying "hey angry tirade boy..curious are you a KKK member or something? It is well known blacks have superior athletic physiology, but you're too racist to accept it."

Idiots like that are why I'm on this site. I even made a couple statements giving blacks lofty credit in my arguments and included my researched opinion that all humans have shared a common ancestor within 75,000 years. But somehow being a black supremacist is o.k, but asking for equality for whites makes you a KKK member.

No, I didnt get to see it, I just went to check it one day and it was taken down saying "copyright infringement" and I couldnt check any of the comments or posts. Someone probably got upset that you actually had some valid arguments against them and instead of trying to make a valid argument back, they just reported the video to youtube.

Why else would their be tons of other NFL player highlight videos that stay up on youtube and Matt Jones gets taken down, for a second time? I have a feeling someone somewhere has the video downloaded on their hard drive and is willing to put it back up. I wish we would have saved some of the arguments that you put on the comments section.

Jordy Nelson's pro highlight video was also taken down a while ago, it showed that when he was in he wasnt really in a slot type role, he was usually lined up on the outside going against either the number 1 or the number 2 corner and actually doing quite well. I guess Whites catching the ball can stay up on youtube as long as they are in the slot or tight ends.

2 fast and tall White receivers that defy the caste stereotypes taken down.

Plus a backup left tackle Zach Strief outplaying "pro bowl" jammal brown who has bad knees and cant handle speed rushers to save his life (which showed Brown holding severely, like his arm around the rushers neck when he wasnt getting beat) also taken down. Its amazing Brees was able to throw for 5,000 yards last season which so mediocre talent around him, imagine if he had more than 2 seconds to make his reads.

Looks like Matt will only be fined, so he is available to play without any suspension time. Let's see what happens now.

This article says a lot about how things work in the NFL:

<H1>Cowboys Owner Says No to WR Matt Jones; Maybe to CB Adam Jones</H1>

The Cowboys are always looking to add players, and as we all know they are not afraid to take chances on players who have been in the headlines - good or bad.

With that is the latest report that the team is thinking about the shot to bring back troubled cornerback Adam Jones. The Star Telegram reports that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones "said nothing is imminent or even in the works toward bringing Pacman back to the Cowboys."Â￾ But the paper says that Jones thinks it is something worth considering.

Jones was released in January, this after the club gave him a shot in 2008, and he basically wasted it with more off the field drama and then he got hurt and really didn't make much of an impact with the club in any way.

Another player that has been talked about is former Jags WR Matt Jones. He's another troubled player that faced drug charges last season, and even though he was solid with the Jags in 08, turning in his best season, the team let him go.

Jones says that currently "the Cowboys have no interest in former Arkansas receiver Matt Jones."Â￾

The agenda is clear to me. There is a concentrated effort to get Matt Jones, a threat to the Caste System's artificial black dominance theory, drummed out of the league for good.

Gentlemen,

I'd just like to say this about the Matt Jones situation. Although Matt Jones is an excellent receiver, he had to be aware of the situation regarding White men in the NFL and went ahead and acted like a jerk anyway. I know our guys are getting a raw deal, but there's no need to make it easier for the bums in charge in the league to throw out a good White receiver, and that's just what Jones did. Now, he might not even get picked up and if he does, he might not get a fair shake. This only goes to show, we produce some jerks too. Yes the blacks and hispanics have us beat out in the jerk category, but we've got our own as Jones shows so well.

Tom, I agree, Matt did a stupid thing by taking drugs. You are correct in that there are white jerks out there as well. I don't believe Matt is a jerk though. I think that for a long time, he hasn't been understood by most people who observe him. Matt is a very laid back man who doesn't show a lot of emotion. He's just a very low-key person. Some people don't understand that and misinterpret it as arrogance or being a jerk as you put it. He made an moronic/idiotic decision to do drugs and he's suffering for it no doubt, but I wouldn't label him a jerk.

I agree with Reb's observations. I've been making similar ones ever since Matt played with Arkansas. His laid back personality doesn't mesh well in a league where everyone is supposed to be super-hyper to the point of constant infantile yelling and gesturing. That was one of the criticisms of Jones in Jax by coaches,"teammates" and DWFs-- he didn't adapt to the Ray Lewis School of Moronic Gesturing and Posturing and was hated for it. There have been a few black players who acted very subdued -- Barry Sanders and Marvin Harrison are prominent examples -- but theyhave always been praised rather than attacked for that attribute.

If Jones has been lazy in his work ethic that reflects poorly on him. He has been widely labeled a coke fiend, but we don't know whether this is true or not. A helluva lot of people in this country have, and continue to use coke, but very few of them would qualify as coke addicts.

Jones was drafted by the worst possible team and deserves a second chance, especially because he was headed toward an 80 catch, 1,000 yard season last year on a team with a bad o-line, bad receivers, and a mediocre passing QB. However white players rarely get even first chances in the NFL, a league filled with players with numerous arrests for crimes far more serious than what Jones did.Edited by: Don Wassall

I know for a fact if coke weren't labeled as such a taboo drug and people who have tried/experimented with it could come out of the closet (without their reputation being tarnished) the numbers would be A LOT higher than most would think. So trust me Matt Jones is in no way a bad person for trying a substance perhaps your doctor or lawyer even did in college. Matt isn't a junkie or anything and people who say otherwise are just plain ignorant. Additionally, if drug use was treated as a public health issue instead of a criminal issue we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now.

Also I happen to like how Matt is a laid back kind of guy. I'm so sick of seeing players act like they've won the lottery for catching a 7 yard pass.

There's so much hypocrisy in this country, and not just when it comes to race. Anyone who was an adult in the 1970s and '80s knows that mountains of coke were being snorted, and lots of it by middle and upper class whites. Probably 98%+ of celebrities were doing it. It was treated like candy and was practically legal for a while, much like weed was in the late '60s and '70s. Most of the whites presently in positions of prestigious or authority over the age of 45 did coke, often lots of it, and perhaps still do.

A few months back, I wrote on another thread that white football players seem oblivious to the situation. Drew Bennett insisted on signing with the Rams, rather than trying to find a team that would use him to the utmost. Matt Jones may have thought he would be indulged like others once his receiving numbers went up. Is it just more naivete by white athletes?

Yes, cocaine was used heavily by affluent whites in the 1980's. Gerry Cooney has said that he indulged in cocaine the year or so before he fought Larry Holmes for the heavyweight title.

So what if Jones got arrested with cocaine? This country is way to harsh on people for simple possession of drugs. That is why we have over 2 million people locked up right now and lead the world in incarceration rates. His crime was so minor compared to some blacks in the NFL who have been convicted of murdering dozens of dogs or setting up major drug deals. Jones doesn't deserve any of the crap he's getting. Donte Stalworth killed an innocent man and from what I hear he may beat the charges.
