Durham has looked great in training camp, but all it does is give him a shot to be the fourth or fifth receiver rather than be cut. He did look a bit tentative when he played last year, which a White receiver can't do as they're always on the shortest of leashes, so it's good that he's been working on his strength and aggressiveness.

Kris Durham is the tallest receiver on the Lions roster at 6-foot-6 and is using that size advantage to be a pretty good red zone weapon so far in training camp.

Durham got the fans, and his offensive teammates, going earlier this week in practice when he made two terrific back-to-back touchdown catches over cornerback Domonique Johnson.

The second, a very difficult back-shoulder catch, prompted teammates Nate Burleson, Joique Bell, and Mikel Leshoure to storm the field to congratulate him.

"I've just been able to make the play," said Durham, who made another catch in the end zone over a defender on Saturday.

The Lions ranked fifth in the NFL in red zone touchdown efficiency last year at 60 percent, but could always use more weapons down there. Durham, with his height and added strength (seven pounds from 2012), is as good a candidate as anyone.

"With my height and my size, there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to get up and get some balls," he said.

Durham was signed to the Lions' practice squad after training camp last season after he was cut by Seattle. He was activated to the roster for the team's final four games and finished with eight catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.

He said he's worked hard on improving his physicality this offseason and is glad to have an entire offseason and training camp to be in this offense.

"I've been trying to be stronger and attack and don't back down," Durham said. "I'm getting more confidence in the offense and kind of just understanding what I should be able to do and just trying to use my size."

If the next five weeks go as well as the first one did for Durham, his name will very much be in the mix for those open fourth and fifth receiver spots.

Looks like Durham made the team, and his old college teammate Shaun Chapas (who will be active for at least a few games, I would bet) made the practice squad. I doubt either of them would be in this situation without Matthew Stafford in their corner. Good for all three, and here's to hoping Durham gets some targets.

It's probably not a coincidence. It's not like Stafford is the GM or coach who has a direct hand in player personnel decisions, but he probably built a good rapport with Durham, he did the rest and made the team. It's a lot different than asking the team to bring in some black WRs, unlike another QB we know.

He led Detroit in receiving yards (58) and recovered an onside kick. Nicknamed "White Chocolate" by his teammates, Durham was actually starting outside in place of Pat Edwards (ankle), not Nate Burleson (arm). Burleson was replaced by Ryan Broyles, who finished without a catch despite playing 40-plus snaps. Durham is a special teamer and would be a truly desperate fantasy add.

Will Johnson play? what happens if he doesn't, etc. It dominated the talk radio shows. They even had Herman Moore a former Lions receiver talking about the subject.

The whole time I listened Kris Durham's name did not come up once. In over an hour of discussion of the Lions receiving corp there was talk about Broyles-when is he going to be the breakout superstar he is supposed to be, there was talk about Patrick Edwards and how he has to step up and become a star. There was plenty of talk about Ogletree and how he is going to return to the star receiver he once was (?). But at no time, not once, did any caller, DJ or sports analyst bring up the name of Kris Durham. Not even derisively.

It's one of the amazing aspects of the caste system and it never fails to amaze me. Here is a guy who has arguably been the best receiver on the team for the last two weeks. A guy who is a STARTER at the position. And no one would even speak his name. To the DWF fans and sports talking head the idea of a White guy playing and being a factor at the receiver position in so unfathomable that it is not even worth mentioning once.

Why bother? He's White. He'll never be any good so if we ignore him maybe he will go away. Now I will be the first to say that I have been disappointed in his play up to now. I think he can do better. I think the inaccuracy of Stafford hurts him but there are a couple of catches he should have made and it would have changed the way people look at him. But despite that he has still put up better numbers then the other guys. If he was black he would be a guy on the rise, working his way up to stardom. But because he is White he is a guy that disappoints and will never amount to anything.

Perhaps the most amazing thing of all is that the Lions management plays him. For a White guy to get the shot he has gotten he must be tearing it up in practice. So few White guys get any chance at all that any of them that do must be really impressive to the coaching staff. Heck we see White guys do great at times and then get totally ignored. So Durham is doing something right.

This is part of the great obstacle that White athletes face in the caste system sports like the NFL. They are treated worse then if they were bad (which they are not) they are treated as invisible.

The only way dwf's notice white receivers is when they catch TDs. They don't care about much yards receiving. They are too busy drooling over da afleets to notice the other white position players. I think if Durham started scoring more they'd pay attention to him and then his yards receiving.

Some good news for Durham at the expense of Ryan Broyles.

Lions placed WR Ryan Broyles on injured reserve with a torn right Achilles' tendon, ending his season.

Broyles tore his Achilles' in last Sunday's win over the Cowboys. One of the unluckiest players in the league, Broyles tore his left ACL as a senior at Oklahoma, tore his right ACL as a rookie last season, and has now suffered yet another significant lower-limb injury. His career hangs in the balance. Broyles will likely start next season on the PUP list.

This guy is a china doll. In way, I feel for the guy as he seems like a productive player who can't catch a break. On the other hand, the Caste System is so relentlessly evil to Whites that I welcome a prolonged opportunity for Kris no matter how it may come.

Yeah, after being jerked around (despite being a 4[SUP]th[/SUP] round pick) by the enduringly-loathsome “Plantation Pete” Carroll in favor of black pygmies (Deon Butler), nobodies (Ben Obomanu, Richardo Lockette), and busts (Golden Tate), Durham seems to have found a nice venue in Detroit to showcase his skills. With Nate Burleson’s return from a broken arm (stemming from crashing his SUV because his pizzas were sliding on the seat…no, seriously) imminent, the worst scenario for Durham will be a demotion to WR #3. At least he gave a nice “final performance” in the form of his epic 40-yard catch to set up the Lions’ big comeback last Sunday...

At 6’ 6”, Durham is actually taller than Calvin Johnson and although his combine vertical leap ability was less than that of Johnson (42.5” compared to 36”), Durham is capable of jumping over the head of his 6’ 2” tall mother…

technically Nate Burleson is a slot receiver, even referred to himself as the "black Welker" (yeah in his dreams, although I do like the fact that a black player refers to himself as the black version of a White player, usually its the other way around), so Durham should stay on the outside

In this case I agree with them, not because I think Kris is an inferior player like they do, but because the thoroughly brain-washed GMs see him as a fringe roster player rather than a young, tall, fast guy with "upside". Roto's right, which GM would face that kind of wrath to miss out on drafting a magical negro with their 4th rounder. Hey chances are the majority of the guys picked in the 4th round won't carve out a career as good as Durham but who cares, these Caste addicts need another scratch-off ticket anyway.

Restricted free agent Kris Durham is expected to receive an original-round tender from the Lions.

Durham was originally a fourth-round pick by Seattle, so no team is going to surrender a fourth-rounder for his services. The low tender would pay Durham $1.323 million in 2014, as long as he makes the team, which is no sure thing. The Lions desperately need to add one or two receivers this offseason. In an ideal world, Durham would be nothing more than a No. 4 or 5 wideout.

Of course there's that inevitable dig at the White player. I'm sure in roto's ideal world, Durham would be nothing more than a practice squad player, or better yet, a grocery bagger after being banished from this corrupt league.

This is one of the significant changes in sports journalism in my lifetime. It used to be that almost all players were treated with respect, as even the worst were playing at the top level of their sport. Generally the idea was to talk of the skills a player might have and at the worst mention that they were failing to use their skills at an opportune level. I think the idea that some fat out of shape, never played the game, sportswriter would have the nerve to criticize a guy that is actually out there doing the job was looked down upon by sports fans. And also the sportswriters of that era had to get face to face with the players and high testosterone men don't like little wimpy pigs saying bad things about them. Unidentified basement dwelling geeks don't have that worry. So we now have the attack sports media that rips players constantly. Especially when there is a racial angle as we well know.
