The few white players on the Eagles seem to be falling one by one. Maybe it's similar to the way a neighborhood can only tolerate so many black families before the remaining whites flee for the hills and the whole place goes to hell.

Kevin Curtis sat out practice once again Saturday because of swelling in his knee.

<DIV =s_pNewsTextMain>Curtis is starting get an "injury-prone" label. There's been speculation that the knee swelling is related to his surgically repaired groin, but the team says it's nothing serious. Jason Avant is emerging as a guy Donovan McNabb can trust while Curtis misses time.

This article claims that Kevin Curtis may not even make the roster. Oh to be a fly on the wall: Andy Reid: "You mean we still have a white player on the team and he's not a kicker or long snapper? Get him the hell out of here!"

This article mentions Curtis's age, 31, which I've seen mentioned in other articles as well. This is typical of what the few white receivers who ever get an opportunity have to go through. Curtis had to wait until he was 29 years old to start, and now at 31 he's suddenly an "aging veteran."


<H1>Eagles have a new problem at wide receiver </H1>


Here's what we know: DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant are locks. Beyond that, anything is possible.


Reggie Brown and Hank Baskett are experienced but neither has had an overwhelming training camp. Brown has been OK, Baskett disappointing.


Kevin Curtis had nearly 1,200 receiving yards in 2007 but hasn't been healthy since. He's coming off two sports hernia surgeries, was largely ineffective when he did play during last year's regular season, missed practice this week with knee swelling, and his preseason has been uninspiring. . .



Curtis is an interesting case. Injuries limited him to just 390 receiving yards and a career-low 11.8 yards per catch last year, and he hasn't gotten untracked this summer. But when he's healthy, he's very good.


He caught 77 balls in 2007 and bounced back to have a great postseason last year - once he finally got healthy. His 4-for-122 in the NFC Championship Game tied Terrell Owens' franchise record for most yards in a playoff game, but he's 31 now and hurt a lot.


Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Curtis remains a big part of the Eagles' plans, but it wouldn't be a shock if they cut ties with the former Ram.

Wow! The NFL never stops amazing me. It also didn't help Curtis that he was a few years older than the average rookie coming into the NFL because of a Mormon mission.

This seems to just be a case of a beat writer stirring the pot, as Curtis is a near Pro Bowl caliber receiver when healthy.
"I don't have any concerns with Kevin. It's just simple. If he's healthy he'll play at a high level," said OC Marty Mornhinweg. He will be the Eagles' starting split end when healthy. Reggie Brown and Hank Baskett are in much hotter water than Curtis.

It's hard to call a black "too pro white" and you can't call them out on being racist against whites either in PC America. Since this is the case, it seems virtually all blacks are either ones that try hard to be fair or are ones who simply put to work their ill feelings toward whites in their employment sector. From my experience, very few blacks are on the fence on this issue.

Like I said before if he really has lost some speed this could spell doom for Curtis. If he is healthy I think he can duplicate his 2007 season with 1000 yards receiving. At 31 he is not old and there are older receivers that still have success.

I've been reading these "Eagles have problems at Wide Receiver" articles since the day they signed Curtis. And to say that Curtis was "largely ineffective" last year is a joke. The two or three times I saw him he looked sharp and dangerous. Having said that football can take a toll on a body. But 31 is not old and if he can get fit I think he is one of the best in the NFL. Plus he is low millage as he was drafted at age 24 or 25, and was the 4th / 3rd line receiver at the Rams

Yes I have been reading those articles too Devans. Some announcers even called Curtis a third receiving option. When healthy all season he is a lock for 1000 yards.

I've had the displeasure of watching almost all the Eagles pre-season games thus far. It's definately more likely that 1st round super-bust, Reggie Brown, gets cut than Curtis. Perrenial nobody Hank Baskett has looked generic as ever this pre-season. I think Danny Amendola, who hasnt had a great pre-season (not many touches), is a goner for sure.

Unless Curtis is really having injury problems, not even Andy "Porky Pig" Reid would cut him.

BTW, Jeremy Maclin has been playing kick returner (and punt returner) like a scared little woman the entire pre-season...why do they keep putting him back there?

Perhaps coach Reed has a glandular problem, adult onset diabetes, or other issues which cause an unusual amount of adipose tissue to pool around his midriff and face. Let's make an effort to see the world from his shoes. It must take a lot of will power for this fine coach to refrain from ingesting beer, hot dogs, brats and popcorn while at the games, lets give him credit for an excellent job of building the Eagles into the team that it is.

Eagles getting rid of Kevin Curtis? haha thats absolutely ridiculous. Kevin Curtis is far and away their best receiver, despite the constant pushing of Desean Jackson as their #1(Desean is good, but Curtis has all the same physical abilities AND veterancy on his side). Curtis is all but officially screwed on the Eagles. It's not hard to read between the lines of this one:

-When healthy, WR Kevin Curtis will have role in offense: Curtis' recent left knee setback coupled with WR Jeremy Maclin's difference making relief showing Sunday has revved up speculation over whether the rookie will remain the second starting wideout once the veteran recovers. Per a team source, this process had already been set in motion prior to the Birds' pre-bye week finale Sunday, September 27th against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Regardless of whether or not Curtis is ultimately relegated to a reserve role, the Eagles coaching staff is committed to keeping him in the mix. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg expects the 7th year pro back sooner rather than later.

"He's just really working hard to get that knee close to 100% and I think it's getting closer and closer," said Mornhinweg. He wouldn't exactly specify where Curtis will fit in the rotation going forward.

"We'll see what happens with Kevin. He's such a fine football player; we'll find some places for him."

Curtis should consider that news encouraging. While Mornhinweg wouldn't go as far as to say Curtis would get his job back, he implied via his statement that Curtis wouldn't become a castoff, as WR Reggie Brown did a year ago when DeSean Jackson overtook him on the depth chart.

One of only two wideouts in the Andy Reid era to reel in over 1,000 RC YD in a single season, Curtis, should he ever return to his old, quick self, possesses the potential to help the Eagles. Prior to missing the two previous contests, he hauled in five grabs for 70 YD (a substantial 14.0 YD/RC); however, he also made some glaring mistakes, committing a bad drop against both Carolina and New Orleans.

This afternoon marked the second straight practice in which Curtis participated fully.

I am still frustrated with the Curtis situation.  His injuries are finishing his career.  He should have been a starter early on in his career but played behind two good receivers in Holt and Isaac Bruce.  I have to give credit where it is due.  I hate the fact that he is on the Eagles as well.  Mcnabb is often erratic and he would be better off somewhere else. The only positive is that Celek is doing well.

Any idea when Curtis will be back from his late October 'scope surgery? I know that he didn't practice this week, so he won't be available for the Chargers. As for McNabb, well, if he gets hurt, and Kolb falls off of a building or something, the Eagles still have born QB Vick!!

The Eagles are a joke.  Andy "Porky the Pig" Reid isn't even using his superstar afflete Vick much.  Celek is about the only reason to watch them now.
