you waver in your opinions

I responded to you saying that in no way is Curtis better than Welker which is what I originally said so I then defended Curtis.

The media (and I'm sure many DWFs) can't wait to bury Kevin Curtis.  CBS Sportsline currently has him as their 77th ranked WR for the 2009 season.  Eagles rooke Jeremy Maclin is 49th.  Other legends of the game ranked in front of Curtis include Nate "Hands of Stone" Washington (40th), Nate Burleson (fresh off an entire year on IR, 44th), Devery "Hands of Stone" Henderson (51st), Laurent Robinson (who? 55th), Bryant "Hands of Stone" Johnson (59th), Devin "Who Gives a Crap About Anything" Thomas (67th), Javon "Washed Up Years Ago" Walker (70th), Michael "Hands of Stone" Jenkins (74th), and Dennis "Hands of Stone" Northcutt (76th).

And my bet is Maclin jerseys are now being produced in the thousands and Curtis jerseys are on sale in Philly because his 4.35 40 isn't explosive enough for them. He is probably top ten WR when healthy, definitely better than Matt Jones and almost as good as Welker in effectiveness.

Here's my Scouting report: Curtis separates in and out of his breaks a little better than Jones. He has a slightly better burst, but I think Jones has slightly better straight-lined long speed. Jones is also stronger and bigger than Curtis and could be better on the jump ball.

Curtis really has impressed me, losing little speed in and out of breaks and with his quickness. Curtis has good hands, but only displayed solid ones last year-he may have been rusty from missed time and McNabb didn't consistently put good touch on his throws. Curtis has run a 4.28 hand time 40- but ran a 4.41 electronic timed 40 at the Combine (Maclin ran a 4.4-basically dead even). Matt Jones ran a 4.37 at 6'6- 230 lbs- the most freakish physical specimen ever! Both are true #1 WRs.

Wes Welker is the best man on short routes in the entire game. His first few steps are insane and he loses basically "zero" speed in and out of his breaks. Welker is also VERY tricky with head fakes, choppy steps and with finding the soft spot underneath. He has one of the most reliable pair of hands in the league. He is always a threat to make guys miss after the catch. He seems to have an almost supernatural field awareness. He's like a Brian Westbrook playing WR.

We agrre a lot on football TJR. Wikipedia says this about his forty time:

"Curtis ran a hand-timed 40 yard dash of 4.21 but a 4.35 at the NFL Combine; at the Combine, he scored a 48 out of a possible 50 points on the Wonderlic intelligence test. This is the highest verified score among active players."

I agreee though that Jones could be better with a quarterback that had an arm.

Welker might have a PB 4.5- but I know he ran a 4.61/4.65 at his Pro Day. Basically it may depend on who your QB is and what your team needs for if you'd prefer Curtis or Welker. Welker is a phenom at every attribute for a WR except top-end speed. And his smaller size may actually help him swiveling through tight spaces.

Matt Jones is the most dangerous game breaking threat out of these guys to have on your team, but may not be as steady and reliable moving the chains at this point. Curtis has every attribute at close to a Pro-Bowl level you would want in a WR except maybe physicality-but he isn't an ABSOLUTE FREAK at any particular area like Jones and Welker are. Wikipedia might be right- I don't know-NFLdraftscout lists Curtis time slightly slower at 4.42-I just checked. However, I found out recently- that that site goes by their own estimate from film review- not the NFL network film review-which is why I'm using them less lately. For instance they listed Knowshon Moreno's Combine 40 time at 4.5 flat when the NFL network's official time came out at 4.63 I believe-that's a huge difference and I have sensed a definite bias in favor of black 40 times as compared to the NFL network's official times.

for what it's worth, i'd take Curtis, Jones, and Welker on my team any day. i think that trio would give me the best wide receiving corps in the NFL.

DD.comment: While we like Jeremy Maclin as a prospect, he's very similar to DeSean Jackson, who had a strong rookie season last fall, and Kevin Curtis, who had the most receiving yards for an Eagle in 2007 (1,110) since the early 1980's. All three are smallish, but very fast. Point? We are bit surprised Andy Reid didn't seek out a more full sized outside target (Kenny Britt or Hakeem Nicks) in the T.O. mold?

This comment from Draftdaddy is basically what me and some of you fellows have been iterating! I dare say the Eagles are likely going to try to replace Curtis with slightly less talented versions of himself with less NFL experience.

When I said every part of Curtis's game is on the cusp of Pro-Bowl level-that means OVERALL he is such a complete player that, IMO, he would be making multiple Pro Bowl's if he had a QB who threw the longer throws more. McNabb's running ability adds another element to his game and overall McNabb is a borderline Pro Bowl QB. However, he's a level down from the true Pro Bowl guys and doesn't always consistently put touch on the ball either.

I don't think Maclin is overrated, but I think Curtis is better at this point due to his experience. They are probably virtually dead even talent wise.

Desean Jackson has lots of similarities to Curtis as well, but Jackson isn't quite as big or strong and is a bit of a showoff as you saw with his famous bonehead play last year.

Curtis finally gets some credit from caste boy Adam Schein. In this article, he said Curtis has been underrated for years, and that he will lead the Eagles in catches this year as well.

Further down in the article, he also says Jim Leonhard will become a household name this year.

If Curtis isn't a starter this year I will stop watching football compeletly. I am sick and tired of overrated blacks being handed positions just because of their skin color. When Curtis is healthy he is a top 10 receiver in the league without a doubt.

If Macklin shows anything at all, Curtis will soon find himself back in the customary position of third WR. That will make the fans happy.

The Eagles will probably be the blackest team in the league this year. 3 whites starters now that Bradley is injured.

Well, there's been injuries all around. Kevin Curtis has said his
nagging injury from last season is better, and that he was at 100%, but
now he had a thigh contusion which has kept him out of practice a few
times. However, just today, Desean Jackson is being reported as having
injured his knee:

http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/sports/index.ssf/2009/08/desean_jackson_injured_at_eagl.html

The extent of the injury isn't known, but this unfortunate event will
only help Curtis. It's never good to see injuries, but it was pretty
unfair how Jackson was basically given the starting job on a gold
platter, even after his bumbling and numerous missteps and mistakes
last season, whereas had Curtis been healthy and available all year
round, his veteran presence would have disallowed such things.

Now, with Maclin, as bigunreal said, if he shows even some promise, or some capability (even if it's less than Curtis) he'll probably get started opposite of Jackson, and Curtis will be unfairly demoted.

For some reason I thought they picked up another black receiver who has started in the NFL, which would of course make him superior to Curtis in the minds of many fans and coaches even. I'm glad I was wrong, because as long as he's on the field, he's going to tear it up.

Well, he will have some moments, but with Dumavon McDrab and ConVick, don't expect him to get good passes thrown his way.

Well Curtis is one of those guys that can adjust to very poorly thrown balls, but he never gets any credit for it in the mainstream media. If he doesnt catch a terribly thrown pass, he usually is blamed for it, but if an afflete doesnt catch a ball thrown to his wrong shoulder by a White qb, the qb gets the blame.Edited by: dwid

Very true dwid, very true. The announcers are a big part of the problem they always come down with an iron fist with criticism of a white athlete. A white WR has to be near perfect to not get blamed, especially with a black QB throwing them the ball. I think Troy Aikman is a good announcer along with a couple others. When Curtis missed catching the ball in the NFC championship game where he had to lay out for it at the same time as being interfered with Aikman said something like,
"that was clear interference, Curtis could have probably made that catch, but it would have been a real spectacular catch"
...something of that sort. Most announcers would have said,
"wow Curtis' hands have really been a question mark all season."

Curtis actually caught 70% of the balls thrown to him in 2007, but only about 50% in 2008. McNabb wasn't putting the ball in good places for Curtis in '08 like he did in '07. Their chemistry with each other appeared to be off and both were probably rusty dealing with injury problems last year.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

there are a lot of rumors coming out of Philly these days saying that Curtis has lost his speed due to his sports hernia surgery ...

the only thing that doesn't add up, though, is that these same people who are repeating this rumor are the same folks who were always saying Curtis was slow to begin with. what gives?

oh, never mind. i remembered! he's White.
