Last season was the Year of the Injured Black Player in the NFL, and this season has started off the same way. Check out the injury reports, there again are moreblacks getting injuredthan whites, even allowing for their preponderance in the league.


White receivers are finally learning that leaving themselves open for concussions, broken bonesand collapsed lungsafter every single catch is not a noble thing. The Ed McCaffrey-Tom Waddle-Tim Dwight school of kamikaze play is becoming extinct and that's a good thing because black defenders like nothing better than tolaunch into white receivers. The quickest way to end the trend toward poor and non-existent tackling skills would be to end the Caste System.

The Eagles received some good news regarding the status of former Utah State receiver Kevin Curtis after undergoing surgery.

Curtis, who underwent sports hernia surgery on Aug. 21, "feels great" and is "ahead of schedule" in his rehab, General Manager Tom Heckert said tonight. Heckert also had good news on Chris Clemons, Reggie Brown and Max Jean-Gilles.

Curtis, who had 77 receptions and over 1,100 receiving yards in his first season with the Eagles last year, is out indefinitely, but his injury was not nearly as serious as the sports hernias suffered by teammates Donovan McNabb and L.J. Smith, and the Eagles are hoping Curtis's layoff is a short one.

"He feels great," Heckert said. "He's already doing some running, so it's just a matter of getting that thing stronger and getting him back into shape. But he feels really good, and he's ahead of schedule. We'll see how it goes in the next couple weeks."

Desean Jackson probably moves into the second WR spot after Curtis gets back. They might keep Jackson in the slot. Reggie Brown isn't very good, they should replace him with Greg Lewis or Hank Baskett. But Reggie Brown is a tall WR, which brings contrast from Curtis and Jackson.

The Eagles are upbeat on the possible return date for injured WR Kevin Curtis (sports hernia). Before the Week Two game, head coach Andy Reid said, "I'm optimistic that he won't be (another six weeks). He's doing very well. The month and a half takes you to about the bye week (Oct. 13-19), so hopefully we can get him back a little sooner (than that)."

Curtis had surgery on Aug. 21, and Reid thinks Curtis could return for the Oct. 12 game against the 49ers or perhaps the week before in the game against the Redskins.

Curtis is reportedly practicing lightly this week and may play a little bit Sunday. But even if he doesn't he's clearly coming back quite nicely from his sports hernia surgery.

Great news! I thought he'd be back much later than this. Now I might actually care about watching the Eagles (I'm from PA). Assuming he retains his starting spot, which is likely because the Eagles paid him alot of money (which was shocking in itself)....he'll probably still get 800-900 yards this season. Then again, fatso Andy Reid allowed the super-mediocre Greg Lewis to "beat out" a bigger, taller, stronger, much more athletic WR in Mike Gasperson.

Perhaps the miniature smurf, Jackson, will take Curtis' spot too.

Just an update: Curtis practiced the entire week leading up to the Chicago game. Before the game he was actually listed as "Doubtful" as opposed to just "Out". A speedy recovery will definitely help the Eagles out down the line.

He will undoubtedly come back in as a starter, definitely over Reggie Brown and probably (unfortuantely) beside or behind DeSean Jackson. Whatever.Edited by: PhillyBirds

Do you guys think Curtis will be moved to slot WR in Phili? If he does get moved there that is absolute BS. Desean Jackson should play the slot with Maclin and Curtis as the #1 and #2 WRs (that is if Maclin proves himself).

Curtis is basically a stronger version of Jackson and slightly taller. Jackson might have slightly better top speed (4.33 at the Combine compared to 4.41 for Curtis- but Curtis may have had an off day b/c he has run as fast as 4.28 before), but overall I think Curtis is better as of now. Curtis has quite the burst also and is a very elusive route runner!

Unfortunately, I do believe Curtis will find himself as the slot/3rd receiver in Philadelphia this season. I think the Jeremy Maclin pick was to satiate the fans who wanted a "big time playmaker". Having two of the fastest starting receivers in the league was not good enough for them, I guess. WR was the least of the Eagles' worries.

Yeah the reason Phili didn't beat the Cards was that Warner outplayed McNabb. Curtis has proven he is a true number one WR with his stats and play. McNabb is a good QB, but he isn't consistent on long ball accuracy to find guys like Curtis and has choked in the big games.

Bottom line: is that Curtis is scapegoated instead of McNabb, b/c McNabb is a black QB and above criticism of the media.

yeah i was talking to an eagles fan and he said they need to get rid of kevin curtis and it is his fault why the eagles were not in the superbowl. if you look at the tape it was pass interference. even if curtis does catch that ball and the eagles do get the first down, chances are that mcnabb chokes anyways.

In no way is Curtis as effective as Welker nor as good of a reciever as Matt Jones (offield behavior excluded), I have followed these three players a lot and though Curtis is a good reciver, he doesn't compare to Welkers quickness and elusiveness or Jones hands and size.

Really because in 2007 Curtis got over 1100 yards with Donovan McNabb throwing to him, whereas Welker yielded the same results with Tom Brady and Matt Cassell.

And by the way Curtis ran a 4.35 40. Not to mention he scored the highest IQ as a receiver ever on that test they have.

Matt Jones I agree is more talented but his production is just an estimate whereas Curtis will probably be a more blatant example of the caste system because when he replaced Torry Holt he got immediate results (105 yards).

Welker ran a 4.5 40 and Jones ran a 4.37 40. Both are slower.

I agreee though that Jones could be better with a quarterback that had an arm.

i think curtis is eventually going to fade out of the picture in philly. Especailly now that they have desean jackson and jeremy maclin. i expect him to be kicked around the league for a few more years and then call it a career.

Though his 40 time and IQ might be higher, Wes Welker has proven himself as a better reciver with stats equal to or greater than Curtis while being a #2 reciever behind Rany Moss nontheless. He will eventually fall into obsecurity due to the fact that he plays for the Eagles and that NigNabb throws to him and will continute to as hes on the team. He'd be a great fit for a team like the Broncos or Busc offenses.
