Jordan Shipley (concussion) was held out of Bengals practice again on Thursday.

Shipley isn't going to play this week after taking a cheap shot from Browns FS T.J. Ward, who was more interested in lighting up the receiver than making a tackle.
 
Has the head-hunter been fined yet?

EDIT: Just saw he got a $15,000 fine. Do you guys think that is reasonable? I'm not really up to date on fines.Edited by: TorontoArgos
 
its not enough. Eric Smith was fined 50,000 for being accidentally shoved into Boldin and suspended for one game. I don't know how much Ward is making but I know Smith wasn't making much, 445,000 base salary, about 26k a game. If they are concerned for players safety they should stay consistent, but I guess they aren't concerned as much for white players. Eric Smith was also fined for a hit on Wes Welker, but that was only 7500.

all these dwfs saying "its a violent sport, deal with it...this stuff happens" were the same people whining and crying about Boldin getting hurt saying "suspend him for the year, a superstar's career was almost derailed because of some scrub" Yes someone called Boldin a superstar and Smith a scrub.

I think $15,000 is fair for the hit on Shipley because I believe it was shoulder to helmet. $40,000 for flipping off a referee is ridiculous. Eric Smith's fine and suspension was more to do with the result (broken face) of the hit than the severity or intent. I'm still incensed that Ryan Clark was not fined for head-hunting Wes Welker a couple years ago; Welker had already relaxed because the ball was uncatchable and Clark launched into him.

Granted Welker never complained and neither will Shipley; and, for that matter I don't believe Anquan Boldin ever complained about Eric Smith's hit. It's part of being a good receiver - unlike Randy Moss who's never taken a hit because he gets alligator arms and is always ducking and sliding to avoid contact.
 
$15,000 is little more than change for that chump! It should have been a lot higher. The way they determine fines, like so much NFL BS, needs a serious overhaul. I'm still ticked!

it definitely needs to be scaled to the contract. if he gets fined his monthly wage he will think twice before he does that again!

With Owens likely a one-year mercenary and also one of the oldest wide receivers in the league, Shipley looks to be in a good situation by next season. Also, Chad Johnson is slowing down some.Shipley's 64 yard TD surely impressed even DWFs, though of course it was barely noticed on BSPN and the NFL Network. Edited by: Don Wassall
 
My gosh, Shipley looked like he was shot out of a cannon! I have to say, I really am starting to question the 40 times at the combine, something is rotten in Demmark if you know what i mean, no way he is a 4.57 guy, no f**ing way. Same with Cooper, both of these guys are high 4.3 on the field no question about it, yet they both "supposedly" ran high 4.5's, hmmmmm??? R u guys thinking what I am thinking, do u think they are capable of LYING about the times?????????????

Great observation, Mr. Sehorn. Yes, I bet they are capable of fudging the combine numbers, especially by the elites in charge who use the NFL to further their Marxist animal farm agenda. Why not? These guys in charge lie about almost anything and everything under the sun. Why, some fudging of the numbers on combine day would represent just another day in the tainted caste system.
 
Im not a conspiracy kind of guy, but after Gerhart's top 10 40 time was not posted on the "Combine Top performers list," andtailbacks who ran in the 4.6s were, I really was scratching my head. I dont know what to believe anymore. Anything is possible.

I still don't understand the 40 time thing myself. He ran a 4.53 and he's not in the top performers? The media and many of the DWF's were predicting he'll run a high 4.6 or even a 4.7 based solely on his skin color. They never bothered to watch him play and see that he has good speed and athletic ability. If that isn't stereotyping then I don't know what is.

third round of the 2010 draft in part because he ran only a 4.57 at the
Combine, and wasn't perceived as being nearly as fast as advertised. But
the Bengals' scouting staff, which is often criticized, got some better
40-yard times on Shipley, and considered him tougher than a lot of
clubs. Chosen as the No. 84 pick overall in April, Shipley has
established himself as the club's slot guy, and also as one of the
fastest slot receivers in the league.
"Did you see the guy? He just exploded," said Atlanta safety Thomas
DeCoud, after Shipley took a short pass 64 yards for a touchdown last
week. "I mean, the man can run (fast)."
Shipley has 21 catches for 321 yards and one touchdown in six games. But
his 15.3-yard average is second best among pure slot receivers with
more than a dozen catches. That's a respectable projection to 56 catches
for the year. And expect Shipley to get the ball more as he and
quarterback Carson Palmer become more comfortable with one another.

Let's compare two players since Week 2 of the season.



The first player is in his 10th NFL season. He's amassed 28 catches for 314 yards and one touchdown since Week 2. His 11.8 yards per catch marks the second-lowest average for his career and way down from the 14.5 yards per catch he tallied last season. He's owned in 100 percent of ESPN.com leagues.


The second player is a rookie. He's accumulated 23 catches for 314 yards and one score during that same period, but missed one game due to an injury. He's owned in less than 5 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues.


Here's the interesting part: They play for the same team, so you can't write off the ownership difference due to anything other than their roles and their production, and it's a good bet that there's some serious misunderstanding as to how their roles are impacting their performance. The two players: Chad Ochocinco and Jordan Shipley.


The main argument that will be made on behalf of Ochocinco is that he's one of the Cincinnati Bengals' top two receivers, so he receives looks in two-receiver sets. Unfortunately, the numbers don't support that line of thinking. Since Week 2, Ochocinco has exactly four catches in two-receiver sets. In three-receiver sets, Ochocinco has a slight edge over Shipley with 4.6 catches per game to Shipley's 4.25, but in sets with four or more receivers, Shipley owns a 6-to-1 total reception advantage over Ochocino, despite playing in one fewer game.


The bottom line here is that these two players have been statistical equals over their past four games but Ochocinco is owned in 20 times more leagues. That needs to change immediately. While Ochocinco is still the greater talent, Shipley's production warrants a severe uptick in his ownership percentage.
