Jordan is second in the NFL amongst all rookies in yards, and that's despite not starting, a luxury given to Mike Williams in Tampa and Dez Bryant in Dallas.

Terrell Owens is out for the season. Shipley should see more passes without that paria on the field.

Good that he's out. Hopefully Owens isn't back on the Bengals next season. Better yet, maybe he won't even be in the league next year.

What I like is that Shipley is continuing a trend that began last season of some White receivers not having to serve the NFL's traditional, often absurdly prolonged,racial apprenticeship. Hartline and Collie last year, and now Shipley and undrafted Blair White this season have been Caste busters in the way they've been utilized as rookies. Shipley has the talent to be Welker-esque as a slot receiver though he ideally should move outside when Owens and possibly Chad Johnson are purged before next season.



Too bad McNumbnuts in Denver wouldn't play Eric Decker other than a few token plays, but hopefully he'll be worked into the offense by the new regime in 2011. Edited by: Don Wassall
 
With two games left Shipley has 49 receptions for 583 yards. Pretty good numbers considering he's been the number three receiver and the fact that he was also injured earlier in the season. Owens should be gone next season because he's only signed for the year.

I'm not aware of Ochostinko's contract status but it's possible he'll be gone too. You know the Bengals are going to draft some receivers in that case but hopefully Shipley moves up to the number two spot next year. A 1,000 yard season would almost be a lock if he stays healthy.
 
Shipley is one of the only positives this year for the Bengals. My only concern for him is who will be throwing him the ball next year?Not sure if Cincy will keep Palmer.
 
Now that T.O. is out for the rest of the season, it would seem to be a no brainer for Shipley to slide into his starting spot. Uh, no- for inexplicable reasons, Andre Caldwell has been named the new starter.

Is there an innocent explanation for why the thoroughly unimpressive #4 WR is promoted over the promising rookie, who has been solid as the season long #3 WR? Yes, it's the Bengals, but still....

With the good things that have happened this season, this kind of blatantly discriminatory move reminds us there is stil a Caste System.
 
It's the NFL as usual, Bigunreal. White players are almost never aloud to play on the outside except on rare occasions or in emergency situations.

This is beyond absurd. Not only is Shipley ahead on the depth chart, he has performed well and has been highly touted by all. Plus the Bengals have a chance to finally see what this rookie can do in the next two meaningless games in preparation for next year. Instead they want to get a better look at proven mediocre Caldwell. How could the coach possibly explain such a move if he were asked by our gutless sports media?

Caldwell had 14 catches for 164 yards and zero touchdowns this season.

Shipley had 49 catches for 583 yards and 2 touchdowns this season.

Thrashen, Austin Collie has started numerous times including the Super Bowl last year during his rookie season. I agree he should have been named the starter this past weekend after his return from injury, but for intents and purposes he was a starter as in he was there from the very first play.

Also, remember that Welker "starts" and is often lined up on the outside, occasionally as the only receiver. I agree we need to see more white WRs lined up on the outside and starting, but we also need to be accurate and not diminish what white athletes have been able to accomplish in the caste NFL. Everything is always in a state of flux. I don't have any stats but I think more white receivers are getting touches this year than any other in recent memory. This is something that should be looked at with hopeful optimism that things are changing for the better.

Well, I'm sure that the reasoning behind this is that Caldwell has more "upside", since he's an afflete, and if they somehow raise his self-esteem by promoting him to a starting position, he will break out of his shell of underachievement and be the "Supaman" that all blacks are, naturally. This Shipley fellow, however, is simply a workmanlike overachiever who has already topped out, so no sense in investing time with him over his "better".

Yes, formations do vary and Collie and Welker are technically featured in the "starting lineups"Â￾ of their respective teams.

The Colts' starting "outside receivers"Â￾ are Reggie Wayne (on the left) and Pierre Garcon (on the right). Barring injury, this formation rarely changes.

The Patriots' starting "outside receivers"Â￾ are Dieon Branch and Brandon Tate. This formation does vary widely. Yes, in "running situations,"Â￾ Welker is the only WR on the field.

Collie and Welker are "slot receivers,"Â￾ as every single Casteon announcer and football commentator will constantly mention.

Early in the season, (against Denver) Collie did indeed start at the left flanker in place of Garcon"¦with Blair White in the slot. They dominated the field.
 
Shipley should start on the outside and I guarantee he would dominate just like he did in college. Come on Lewis. Have some courage and make the right choice for a change.

Yes that was surreal watching the Colts with 2 white receivers, and I believe they had some sets with Collie, White, AND Clark (or Tamme) at the same time!

Absolutely. I'm trying to be patient with Shipley I believe he will end up being the starter for the Bengals.
 
This is ridiculous. With drama queen TO gone Shipley should be the number two receiver on the team. Owens won't be back next season so what are the Bengals going to do? Continue sticking with Caldwell? Ochostinko may be gone as well so that opens up more opportunities for Shipley. The Bengals will draft wide receivers in the draft as well.
 
Jordan Shipley has what it takes to be a starting receiver, period. He may have to serve an apprenticeship as the slot man, or on the outside in a backup role, but I'm hopeful he'll end up starting on the outside.
 
Marvin Lewis is likely going to be fired. I wouldn't worry too much about what the Bengals do the last two games with a new regime hopefully coming in to rebuild next year. Owens will be gone, probably Chad Johnson too. Shipley will be their best receiver going into 2011. Even if he stays in the slot he's gonna get a large number of receptions, maybe even Welker-like numbers at some point.
