I hope that all 3 get playing time a running back. I wiil take the glass half full approach to this as opposed to the glass being half empty. I still beleive that they will be given the oppurtunity to play running back at some point this year. Maybe I am naieve, but I hold out hope that Hester and Leonard will play both positions. Small steps gentlemen until we break the door down.Edited by: White Power

The above lines from the article I left included pretty accurate summarry what Hester will be doing. HES A FULLBACK! Get used to it folks. This is the same unfounded hype machine last year that got Brian Leonard's thread all the way up to 30+ pages. All because WE THOUGHT he would get the rock. Well it turns out tat one year later and Leonard is a FULL TIME fullback. Just another guard in the backfield. And you wanna know what? The same will hold true for Jacob Hester. In order to carry the rock it's called black skin privilege and Hester ain't got it. The dude will be the running back on 3rd and long which basically equates to ZERO carries. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I don't like it but that's the way the world turns!

Not many fullbacks start at tailback for national championship college teams.

For white RBs their real position in college usually doesn't translate to HB status in the NFL. Just look at Brad Hoover, Dan Kreider, Brian Leonard, Alstott, and many others.

Guys stop getting your hopes up about Leonard and Hester. You'll only get your hopes trampled upon. They will be their teams' respective guards in the backfield and an occasional carry on 3rd and long or a goaline play here and there. I see Woodhead as the only legit white propect at HB. Unfortunately my gut feeling tells me the Jets will put him on the practice squad this year.

White CB is just being a realist but maybe overly so. The law of averages, lucky breaks, injuries and a occasional fair minded coach and/or general manager dictates a breakthrough eventually. I hope when that happens, the floodgates open for the white TB and CB.

Yes let's not be too defeatist. Remember, we had a white rookie running back start at TB for an NFL team for 2 or 3 games last year.

Part of the Leonard Saga is that he is clearly a second teamer, b/c Steven Jackson has already proved himself as a good runner. But the main theme of Leonard's season was playing with 3 or 4 o-lineman out and Issac Bruce and Marc Bulger injured for some of his 3 starts. How can you expect a "rookie" to achieve in that kind of circumstance, the team was decimated by injuries.

But my Sporting News Pre-Season review has already stated among other lies (Paraphrased) that Antonio Pitmann has shown that he should be the primary backup to Jackson and Leonard proved he is more made for the fullback role.

I have seen the hate on Youtube videos on Leonard "he sucks" etc. etc. Whites always receive the wrath of the drunken fans unless they are literal supermen! How was Leonard supposed to achieve in that situation last season?

Hester runs for 2 TDs in Chargers win over Cowboys

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The San Diego Chargers have few open roster spots after reaching the AFC championship game last season. But rookie Jacob Hester is making a strong case for one.

Hester ran for two touchdowns and the Chargers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 31-17 Saturday night in the first preseason game for each team.

San Diego's third-round draft pick out of LSU, Hester scored on runs of 1 and 2 yards. He gained 49 yards on 13 carries.

Hester is competing with Darren Sproles to replace Michael Turner as the backup for two-time defending NFL rushing champ LaDainian Tomlinson. Sproles gained 7 yards on five carries and had a 5-yard touchdown run, one of three first-half rushing TDs for San Diego.

It's nice to know that the New York Times thinks that Hester, a 3rd round draft pick, has to make a "strong case" in order to earn a roster spot. It would be a real shocker to see any team cut a 3rd round draft pick.

I heard one of the jock-sniffers doing the Chargers game rave about Sproles, and he said something like "he fits nicely into the Michael Turner role" and "you'll be hearing a lot from him this season." As noted in the article, Sproles had 5 carries for SEVEN yards. That certainly merited such praise.

Sproles showed a good burst ONCEm and the announcers wouldn't get off his jock. however Hester's performance was superior and they gave him some praise as well.

Hester and Sproles will split back up duties behind LT with Sproles being 2A and Hester being 2B because of seniority. Hester will also play at fullback. Marv Turner rarely starts rookies at skill positions.

Looking forward to monday nights game and what the annoncers have to say about Hester any way he has arrived and will be 2nd behind LT. It will be fun to watch Hester run the ball, and make plays his success will open the door for others. Hell maybe Zac Keasey gets a try at carrying the ball based on what Hester has done so far in the preseason. Remember this is a copy cat leauge.

WP you are dead on with the copy cat aspect. Maybe every team should get a do it all white back. A little Fullback, a little catch passing ability, not to mention the running part of it. Plus most whites do not have discipline problems. So hell why not??

I'm not going to mince words, because I just dont care anymore....I hope LT misses a couple games so Hester can show his skills as a feature back. There, I said it.

Jacob had an OK game, he had limited playing time. he rushed 5 time for 0 yards and a TD on goal-line action, and 4 times for 21 yards on regular tailback duties.

Btw the chargers black rookie FB, Tolbert is looking good, I guess he will be kept and we won't see Hester much at FB. He didn't see a snap at FB during the game. good thing of not?

It would be a great thing except for the fact that 5' 6 Darren Sproles ran for over 100 yards in the game. That will probably lock up the number 2 running back spot. Why is it that a white guy has to be tall but they let the blacks play regardless? What a joke. Nothing against Sproles but they never give our guys a chance unless they have the perfect measurables. Guys like Brian Shay, Tre Smith, and the kid from last year. Just a few examples. Hester never got to play until garbage time. He was running behind the back up o-line alot. He will get the same treatment Brian Leonard is getting. He didn't even get a carry the last game.

I know what you mean. Guys like Justin Beaver although he impressed Mike McCarthy who wanted him in camp couldn't get a contract because he was too short and undersized.

Btw Leonard didn't play at all as he was nursing an injury.

Sproles WILL be the second back and Hester WILL be used mostly as a fullback. The hand writing is on the wall. Jacob was not getting carries because he is not going to be behind L.T. That is why Darren S. got all the carries for most of the game. This is B.S. If they were getting Jacob Hester ready to be the the number two guy then he would have seen much more playing time during the pre-season.

As Gi 15 mentioned, Hester didn't even play at fullback. I think he and Sproles will both spell LT, depending on the situation. Hester will probably be a goal line back and a 3rd down back.

I just checked the official depth chart for the regular season. Hester is listed as the 2nd Fullback and only the 3rd running back. I knew Sproles had won the job by how they treated Jacob the last game. What a joke!

Yeah, but the Chargers did cut 5th round RB Marcus Thomas that the idiot Sporting News and even Scout.com plugged as basically the offensive rookie of the year for the Chargers. What non-sense...shows how much they know. Or maybe it just shows how far they will go to plug the black at the expense of the white skill player.
