We’ve been saying this here at CF since I can remember. When it’s a white player, any perceived lack of speed is almost certainly a nail in the coffin. But when it’s a black player, the narrative suddenly switches to “watch the tape instead of overestimating speed”. This guy has accomplished almost nothing in 9 NFL seasons but is still in the league.
 
A new breed of Tight End continues to flex it's muscle



COLTS – The Colts on Tuesday signed undrafted free agent tight end Carson Towt.

Towt most recently played as a forward for Notre Dame Basketball in 2025-26. Prior to that, the 6-foot-7, 250-pound athlete played basketball at Northern Arizona from 2019-25. While at Northern Arizona, Towt set the Big Sky Conference single-season record with 423 total rebounds in the 2024-25 season (leading the country) and recorded 20 double-doubles.

Towt did not play football in high school or college.
 
In addition to tight end Carson Towt, who Twenty-Two recently featured, Colts signed another very intriguing prospect!

When I replied in a CFL thread last fall, I assumed Toronto safety Derek Slywka was, by far, the top White, NFL prospect in the CFL. I knew Slywka and U. of Windsor linebacker Devin Veresuk (Hamilton) were the top rookies in the Eastern Conference, but figured Veresuk would not get a sniff because he played at a Canadian College. I was wrong. While Slywka got some attention in the CFL to NFL free agent window, Veresuk got much more and eventually signed with the Colts.

If the highly productive Veresuk does make it in the NFL, he'll immediately be dubbed a "lunchpail" player or a "high IQ" type. But reality is he's unlike most CFL non-imports: He's full-sized, country strong and NFL explosive for a linebacker his size. Check out the eye-popping numbers he posted at U. of Buffalo's 2025 Pro Day (4.47/40, ect.). Also, look at how explosive and powerful he looks running back this pick six in his first pro start. That said, considering the NFL's Caste System, I would've advised him to bulk-up and refine his game another year (or two) in his native Canada.

Alex Singleton starred and established himself for 3 years in the CFL, before signing with Philadelphia. Jumping to the NFL now will likely relegate Veresuk to a practice squad, at least to start out. Now that said, Colts are really desperate at linebacker and NFL practice squad players get paid much better than second year CFL starters. For example, veteran, White CFL star running back A.J. Oullette is one of the highest paid players in the league, making only about $160,000 per season.

I said it then and I’ll say it now. He will never be a good pro quarterback. Massively overrated
 
There ought to be a game day roster spot for emergency QB's that would consist of a just basically a guy that would come in and run the ball with an option to throw one up on occasion.

An extra extra spot so they can park these once in a lifetime or whatever cliche players on and still say black QBs are the future.

Boettcher was the Colts' second linebacker drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, and has been viewed as a potential special teams ace and rotational backer since he was selected. Boettcher has serious coverage talent, and his aforementioned special teams upside paired to make him a near-lock for a roster spot, but he's proved to be more pro-ready than previously thought after breaking for summer.

The Colts' fourth-round selection at linebacker was always expected to make the initial active roster, but after a top-notch spring, he's eyeing the starting spot opposite his rookie counterpart in CJ Allen as his competition with veteran Akeem Davis-Gaither for the WILL linebacker role heats up in late July.

The Indianapolis Colts doubled up at linebacker in the 2026 NFL Draft and then followed that up by doubling up once more at the position via their undrafted free agent class.

Former LSU linebacker Whit Weeks was seen as one of the most likely roster additions given the Colts gave him the most guaranteed money ($286.5k) of their 2026 UDFA class, and that viewpoint has only strengenthed after the spring. Weeks shined brightest during the team's rookie minicamp, and now his eyes are set for training camp, where he can really make some noise as the pads come on.

That's only "half" of the story. Colts cut Lincon Pare a day or two prior to Castle's release. I was sort of surprised Castle was even able to get a free agent deal, after a long-shot try-out (he was one of like 30 trying out?) weeks after the draft. So I'm not real surprised he was cut so soon. Pare got much more pre-draft attention (Vikings supposedly wanted him, via UFA), so I'm very surprised he was cut prior to playing in a single pre-season game.

Hopefully Pare was only cut due to a nagging injury and he'll get another shot, soon. That said, any White rookie cut prior to playing pre-season games, is the longest of long-shots to ever play in the NFL. Off the top of my head, I can only remember one White rookie that beat the odds -- Mid 2000's, Cleveland cut UFA LB Chase Blackburn early (May). He soon after hooked up with the N.Y. Giants and had a very long NFL career -- as a player and a coach.

If Pare can not get another NFL deal soon, and still wants to play, he should immediately go to Canada. His "skill set" can really thrive in the CFL. In a lot of ways, he's very similar to A.J. Oulette, CFL highest paid RB ($153,000 per). That said, he should exhaust every chance to get onto another NFL roster. A rookie practice squad spot in the NFL probably pays 4 or 5 time more ($225K per) than a bottom of the roster CFL spot.
