With one game left in his rookie season, Renfrow has 43 receptions for 503 yards and 3 TDs. He missed three games because of injury, so he's played 12 so far with one to go. Extrapolating his 12 games over a full season equates to close to 700 yards, excellent for his first season. With Andy Isabella being absurdly Caste aside as a rookie despite being drafted in the second round, Renfrow has been a bright spot in 2019 who should only continue to thrive. His speed is under-rated, as shown by his 56 yard sprint to the endzone in Week 16, and he has hands of glue and is smart and savvy.

Fred Belitnikoff comes to mind as a comparison, but with the Raiders sadly moving to Las Vegas next year and beginning a new chapter in franchise history, maybe not.

I guess one could make the argument Renfrow is a student of the Belitnikoff school. If Hunter even comes close to Fred's career I would be satisfied.

Fred like the Jets George Sauer and the Colts Raymond Berry were known as perfect technicians. They were a QB's best friend ( Brady who has little patience for fools who can't run proper patterns would have loved playing with these guys but he has Edelman) who ran exacting routes and had hands like glue. I think Fred actually used something like glue. Ha. None of these guys had great straight ahead speed but were shifty and could catch contested balls something of a lost art these days.

But there is lesson to be learned here and it is lost on the so called draft gurus in this caste flavored era. One doesn't have to be a 40 yard dash demon to cause damage down field. In fact in 1967 Fred B led the AFL in yards per catch with 21.9. Keep in mind electrifying speedsters like Lance Alworth and Don Maynard were in their prime at that time so that is saying something.

Fred B would be considered a slot/possession receiver today but back then he didn't just run little curl patterns. He was a threat all over the field especially in the intermediate range.

What frustrates me today is you see college receivers like Ryan Switzer and Trey Quinn utilize their speed and quickness to make big plays. Yet when they finally got a chance in the NFL they were shoehorned into running nothing but closet patterns.

I would love for Renfrow to follow in Bilentkoff's footsteps. As it is he has become one of the better stories in the NFL season this year. The Raiders missed him when he was down.

…...and I'm not sure how many D-1 Scholarships he received, but I know he walked on at Clemson. I'm always impressed with men like Renfrow who have the guts and courage to pursue their dream despite the odds against them. Another great story!

Renfrow getting some recognition for his fine rookie season. I'm glad the Raiders and Mike Mayock drafted him because on just about every other team he would have been forced to serve a racial apprenticeship as a rookie if not longer, ala the bs Andy Isabella and countless other White receivers have been put through.

Can't believe I cut him in the Lambert League early in the season after drafting him!

Hunter Renfrow named best value pick of Raiders' 2019 draft class

In the fifth round, general manager Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden needed to find a receiver, and they managed to find one of the best in their entire class. Somehow, Clemson’s Hunter Renfrow was still available, and the Raiders scooped him up.

In just 13 games and four starts, Renfrow managed to be one of the best rookie receivers in the league. He racked up 605 receiving yards on 49 receptions and scored four touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, he was the sixth-highest graded rookie this season and was named the best value pick for the Raiders:

(Hunter) Renfrow (No. 149 overall) had a solid debut season. There were three rookie wide receivers with more than 2 receiving yards per route run: A.J. Brown (2.67), Terry McLaurin (2.11) and Renfrow (2.01). He easily beat out his fifth-round value as a rookie.

In Year 2, expect the Raiders to rely even more on Renfrow, especially on third down. There is also a chance the team moves him into more of a full-time receiver role rather than just a third-down slot specialist. Considering where the team selected Renfrow, there may not have been a better pick in the entire 2019 NFL Draft.

Could Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow Surpass 1,000 Yards in 2020?

by Marcus Mosher

The Raiders got a lot of unexpected surprises out of their 2019 draft class. Defensive end Maxx Crosby tallied 10 sacks despite being a fourth-round pick. Foster Moreau became an incredibly valuable No. 2 tight end behind Darren Waller and even Isaiah Johnson showed flashes of brilliance in the second half of the season.

But what wasn’t surprising for the Raiders that Hunter Renfrow had an immediate impact on the offense. After catching 186 passes during his college career at Clemson, no one doubted that he would be able to come into the NFL and carve out a role. However, his importance to the Raiders’ offense might have been the most surprising part of his rookie season.

In his final seven games with the Raiders, Renfrow caught 35 passes for 490 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged an incredible 10.9 yards per target, which put him among the most efficient receivers in the entire NFL.

Could Renfrow be in line for an even bigger workload in 2020? In a recent article by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report, he predicted a breakout season for Renfrow and guessed that the former Clemson receiver could eclipse 1,000 receiving yards next season. Here is a snippet of Davenport’s thoughts on Renfrow this season:

Hunter Renfrow already experienced a mini-breakout of sorts a year ago for the Raiders. No wide receiver on the Raiders roster received more targets than Renfrow’s 71 in 2019, and the fifth-round pick topped 100 receiving yards with a touchdown in each of his last two games. With (Henry) Ruggs keeping defenses honest down the field and tight end Darren Waller drawing the majority of attention underneath, there will be no shortage of opportunities for Renfrow to do damage from the slot.

While it does seem unlikely that Renfrow will be able to average 14 yards per reception like he did in the second half of the 2019 season, it is possible that his target share in the offense will go up. As Davenport mentioned, Ruggs and Waller should draw a ton of attention this season, opening up the middle of the field for Renfrow.

If Renfrow can receive 110-120 targets this season from Derek Carr, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Renfrow surpass the 1,000-yard mark. It’s clear that Carr trusts him to get open, especially on third down. Don’t be surprised if Renfrow is the team’s leading receiver in 2020.

Hunter Renfrow was flat out dominant over the 2nd half of the season. He reminded me alot of Wes Welker in his prime as he made it look so easy. What an athlete. Good speed, cutting ability, vision and instincts.
I really would love to see him break 1000 yards this season to continue to shut up all the haters & doubters. The kid is as competetive as they come and will not be out worked on or off the field!

Ha, we've all been there. Renfro is another player we CF fantasy footballers should be able to draft earlier than anyone else will and reap the benefits.

David Carr predicts Hunter Renfrow will lead the NFL in TD catches this season! His brother being the Raiders' quarterback gives his prediction added credibility.

NFL Network Analyst Predicts Hunter Renfrow Will Lead NFL In TD Catches

Hunter Renfrow is accustomed to being considered the underdog.

This is the guy that walked on at Clemson after having no Division-1 scholarship offers, only to become one of the most clutch receivers in the history of the school.

Renfrow's journey from the small, coastal town of Socastee, S.C., to Clemson, and then onto the NFL, has been well-publicized.

The Bulsworth Trophy winner as a senior at Clemson, Renfrow left school with the record for starts by a receiver (47) and consecutive games with a catch (43). On top of that, his 37 career catches in the College Football Playoff is also the best ever.

After being taken in the fifth round of last year's draft by the Raiders, Renfrow hauled in 49 catches for 605 yards, and four touchdowns in 2019. It was the kind of rookie season that has some analysts calling for the young wideout to breakout in his second season.

NFL Network analyst David Carr is among those expecting big things out of Renfrow in 2020. The former Raiders quarterback predicts that Renfrow will lead the NFL in touchdown catches this season.

"Hunter Renfrow," Carr said when asked who would lead the league in touchdown catches. "You got Ruggs, you got Tyrell Williams, you got Darren Waller in Las Vegas. And Hunter Renfrow is going to be that guy that gets the ball, gets the matchups down in the red zone."

Carr, whose brother Derek is the starting QB in Las Vegas, feels confident in saying that Renfrow will see a lot of balls thrown his way.

"He's going to get a ton of touches," Carr said. "I know because I have a little inside source there that loves the guy, so he's going to get a lot of opportunities."

The league leader in touchdown catches isn't always necessarily the guy considered to be the number one receiver on his team. Despite playing a secondary role in the slot, Carr says that Renfrow will still have ample opportunity.

"It's not always the number one guy," Carr said. "So for me, I'm looking at a guy that's going to be like a 1-A, or like maybe a slot guy that's going to get a lot of touches."

Hunter Renfrow catches everything. He has some of the best hands in the NFL. Get him the ball in the red zone and stand back and watch him score! :)

Good article on Hunter, who went over 600 yards in his first two seasons with Las Vegas. Derek Carr compliments his speed and how reliable he is. He should be in line for his best year yet as the two other starting WRs on the Raiders as of now are both second year players. Bryan Edwards was injured all last year while Henry Ruggs, the first receiver drafted in 2020, didn't do much as a rookie.

Raiders pleased to see Hunter Renfrow receive attention after beating Jalen Ramsey in joint practice

Hunter Renfrow reportedly got the best of one of the top corners in the NFL during the Raiders' joint practice session with the Rams on Wednesday.

We know -- it was hard for us to believe, too. But that's the consensus from those viewing practice in Thousand Oaks, California, where Renfrow was said to have beaten Jalen Ramsey on multiple occasions, sparking plenty of buzz and countless internet memes before the Raiders and Rams even finished their practice.

Renfrow just sees it as a good day at the office and a possible sign of things to come.

"If I can beat Jalen Ramsey, then I can beat anybody in the NFL, because he is one of the best," Renfrow said, via The Athletic. "That's how I approach it. He got me a couple of times, and hopefully tomorrow we make each other better again."

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound former Clemson walk-on has been a productive target in his first two NFL seasons, breaking 600 receiving yards in each campaign. But we typically didn't see Renfrow do this against an elite defensive back, which he did on Wednesday, albeit out of the slot.

"He doesn't get enough credit for how straight-line fast he is," Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said after the Wednesday session. "I don't think his 40 time, I don't know what it was but whatever it was doesn't do it justice. He's fast. He can run. And just as fast as he can go that way, he can go this way."

"There is a lot of guys that can (have) straight-line track speed," Carr continued, "but Hunter, the thing that makes him different, not only that side-to-side speed, is that ... he knows what route he's running, obviously, and he sees the coverage. He knows how it's set up; he knows exactly what I want him to do, and he literally does it every single time."

I've very glad to see Carr stand up for him. We need more white qb's around the NFL to stand up for white receivers. The same way Aaron Rodgers
did with Jordy Nelson and later with Kumerow. I'm happy that Hunter Renfrow is making his mark. I'm excited to see him playing this season.

Good on Carr! He seems to be as close as we’ll ever get to “our guy” in the NFL. Remember when Krapernick did his kneeling bit for the first time, it was Carr who took a stand against it. That was when the Raiders we like 90 percent negro. His coal offensive line basically sold him out from that point on, missing blocks to get him hurt.

If Myles Garrett can basically get away with criminal assault and battery on nationwide tv what are the idds the league follows up on this?

Shame but if they follow up in any meaningful way it would be stunning.

I don't see why the NFL can't just look at the tapes and let them speak for themselves. If they find anything, hit the offender in the pocket book. Hard. Even in a contact sport like football dirty play can veer into the criminal assault category. They use video to nab and prosecute real world offenders all the time.

Say a nice four game suspension without pay might cut hard into they stripper club rain money and maybe help them think twice next time.

But probably not with certain types.

I guess it also helps if we remember that professional sports are viewed as entertainment and that means the people that run the enterprise are the same as those who run the media, television etc.

The likelihood of there being justice in this regard is about as likely as there being mass arrests or fair coverage of Antifa in Seattle.

In fact, it’s probably likely that the less in charge the typical media types are in a sport the more normal the sport is.

Else, why is South Africa’s rugby Union squad paler than most nfl teams?

Riddle me that Batman!

Just in case anyone had any doubts about Renfrow being targeted because he is White. You can't argue that it is not because he is White. Another example of Sport imitating society.

https://thespun.com/nfl/afc-west/la...-have-reportedly-filed-complaint-with-the-nfl
We had also wondered if Jordan Shipley was also targeted in this same manner; retiring prematurely because of numerous concussions a few years ago!

It was fun following former Walk-on WR Hunter Renfrow @ Clemson ; making game winning TD catch in the National Championship Game vs. Alabama.
Knew he would be sneaky good for whatever NFL team picked him!
