Deslauriers averaged over 1,000 yards his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, runs great routes, has great hands, and would make a capable possession type receiver who can also bustoff the occasional long touchdown catch and run, similar tothe role Hines Ward plays.
But Deslauriers didn'teven make it to the Steelers summer training camp due to the electric talent he was facing at the wide receiver position, all of them members of God's Chosen Affletes. After Ward, there'stiny Santonio Holmes, the Steelers' number one draft pick in '06, who promptly showed off his character by being arrested twice within weeks after his selection and then snubbing Ben Roethlisber's attempts to reach him by phone. He was pretty much a bust unil making a few big plays late in the season. After Ward and Holmes are all-time greats Nate Washington,Lee Mays, Willie Reid, and Cedrick Wilson -- all four of them cutelittle smurfs withvery limitedand erratic skills, low Wonderlic scores, and of coursepoor hands, allfour possessingthe NFL's favored skill set and racialcomposition for the position of receiver.
