Draft Prospect Database

Hey guys,

Having watched the combine and seen lonely figures like Toby Gerhart and Kyle McCarthy wandering around I thought it might be a good idea to put together a prospect database for this upcoming draft. My idea was going position by position and listing the draft eligible guys and maybe even things like height/weight, production, measurable s and maybe a brief bio and draft projections/where they actually should be drafted. Just thought i'd put out some feelers as i'm pretty sure there isn't one collected place (if i'm wrong let me know
smiley1.gif
).

If anyone's interested feel free to start dumping in info and i'll to collate it all and find a way to get it uploaded to the board.

You can probably add Marc Mariani and Pat Simonds to the WR section. Doubt they'll get much of a sniff though.. O'Hanlon for sure,Myles Burnsides a D2 player is an underrated player and Matt Harris from Arkansas is another guy for the DB's. DT is dead this year, but the Big Ten has some really talented d-linemen coming up within the next couple of years.

Edit* Matt Grothe is another guy you could probably put up as a QB. He could play a variety of postions(Slot Wr, or safety)Edited by: celticdb15

Here's just a quick look at what this draft would look like for our guys at RB without the caste system. Unfortunately every year phenomenal talents like Nile Knapp disappear after H.S to Div. III, the NAIA- or give up football all together due to lack of scholarships (so this "isn't literally without a caste system").

RB:
1. Toby Gerhart (1st round)
2. Jake Sharp (3rd/4th round) *Great Pro Day; combine snub
3. Trevyn Smith (5th round) *Combine snub
4. Matt Szczur (6th round) *WR prospect also
5. Blake Smolen (6th round) *WR prospect also; combine snub
6. Luke Lippincott (7th round) *Turf toe injury/ACL history
7. David McCarty (7th round/Priority FA)
8. Willie Rose (7th round/Priority FA) *H-back/HB/FB
9. David Sinisi (Priority FA)
10. Kevin Harris (Tryout)
11. Jared Hawkins (Tryout)
12. Chad Kackert (Tryout)

Blake Smolen- must see all purpose threat highlights

The year of the white WR! 34 WRs were drafted last year. The FA trend for WRs is 78.
White WR Prospect Rankings w/o the caste system:
WR:
1. Eric Decker (1st round) #3 WR *Might be ranked even higher if healthy
2. Jordan Shipley (1st/2nd round) #5 WR
3. Blair White (2nd round) #7 WR
4. Riley Cooper (2nd round) #8 WR
5. Chris McGaha (3rd round)
6. Marc Mariani (3rd/4th round)
7. Kerry Meier (4th round)
8. Tim Toone (4th/5th round)
9. Ryan Wolfe (5th round)
10. Matt Szczur (6th round) *RB prospect also
11. Blake Smolen (6th round) *RB prospect also
12. Pat Simmonds (6th round)
13. Kevin Jurovich (6th/7th round)
14. Andrew Brewer (7th round)
15. Max Komar (7th round/PFA)
16. Brett Hamlin (7th round/PFA)
17. Bryan Anderson (7th round/PFA)
18. Austin Rogers (PFA)
19. Johnny Spevak (PFA)
20. Zeke Markshausen (FA)
21. Harry Von Kann (FA)
22. Shawn Leonard (FA)
23. Trey Stross (Possible tryout player)
24. Ryan Christian (Possible tryout player) *RB prospect also
25. Brad Kanuch (Possible tryout player)

*Note: Anyone listed as a PFA (priority free agent) or above has the tools and usually the college production to make it in the NFL. Usually 7th round draft picks and PFAs are "sleepers" that could turn out to be nice players, but aren't worth an early pick. If a team gives these guys proper coaching and gives them good opportunity- they can succeed.

Missing anyone of note?

3. Jameson Konz (TE/WR/H-Back/RB) 4th round
4. Matt Szczur (RB/WR) 6th round
5. Blake Smolen (RB/WR) 6th round
6. Cody Slate (TE/H-Back/RB/FB) 7th round

I think you have everyone ToughJ. I thought Johnny Spevak would get drafted this year. I never expected a combine invite for him given the caste system but it looks like he will never play in the Negro Felon League.

After Cooper and Shipley, my favourite guy is Meier. Hes got decent speed, but he is big and strong and aggressive , hes a very good blocker, which is pretty important for an outside reciever on bubble screens and sweeps etc. If I were a QB, id want a guy like meier who ist afraid to go up for a catch over the middle.

I sure hope Meier stays at receiver. Some idiots feel that he should be a fullback which is ludicrous and would require him to bulk up. 4.62 speed is a good for a slot receiver.

Great initiative cynicaloptimist. Also, terrific analysis of the RB and WR prospects ToughJR.

The only guy I can think to add is Cody Slate from Marshall. He played TE but could be drafted as a TE/HB/FB. He has good speed and could get drafted 5-6 round at best / PFA at worst. I will contribute more guys if and when they come to mind.

On a side note, in his mock draft, Scott Wright from Draft Countdown has Toby going in the 2nd round to the Houston Texans. Caste lackey Wright actually has an ounce of sense.

Edit to add: FS Jordan Lake out of Baylor is another guy who could get a sniff depending on how he performs during his pro day.Edited by: Freethinker

Didn't know the Patriots have THREE 2nd round draft picks. I find it hard to believe the guy who drafted Tommy Vardell, gave Heath Evans the ball once in a while and basically uses Welker as his running back, will pass on Toby three times. Obviously, Vardell and Evans didn't have a great experience with him, but Belichick seems further along than most. Edited by: Fightingtowin

The Patriots may draft Toby. It's all up in the air right now. They don't have a good running game so I could see them draft Gerhart.

A guy that has been overlooked is William Rose out of FAU. He does it all, catch/run/block. He has had at least 300 yards rushing each of the past 3 years (980 yards 5 ypc for his career) and 300 yards receiving his senior season, averaging 10 yards per catch. Kind of used like Peyton Hillis in college, showing talent when getting the ball but not ever being used to his full potential. He's not as talented as Hillis though, and probably would be best suited as an h-back in the NFL, the kind that actually gets the ball every once in a while though. There isn't even a mention of him as far as going pro goes, but he has the talent to.

and I think Dan LeFevour could play multiple positions in the NFL, has great athleticism. 4.66 40 yard dash, close to 3000 rushing yards and 47 rushing tds. Led his team in rushing 3 out of the last 4 years.Edited by: dwid

There are tons of white players that have been overlooked this year and in years past. I firmly believe that guys like Brian Shay(Emporia State) and David Ball(New Hampshire) could have been stars in the NFL without the caste system. They both set records in college but were shoved aside once it came time for the big leagues.

The Pats have used "running back by committee"Â for years.

Sammy Morris is a decent RB when he's not injured, and Kevin Faulk has been one of their most consistent niche players for nearly a decade. Lawrence Moroney has been a super-bust after being drafted out of Minnesota, and Fred Taylor is elderly. I'd rather see Toby get drafted by a team with a better track record for having a single workhorse back. However, maybe Bellichick is tired of using these black nobodies who rush for 500 yards / season each.

I'd rather see the Pats draft Tebow, and Toby get drafted by the Chiefs (with Charles as the scat-back) or the Texans (with Slaton as the scat-back). Rest assured, Toby will be taken by the team that is the worst for his personal development"¦.such is the life of a white skill player.

So, I take it that Maryland's Alex Wujciak is staying in college...

Baylor's - Joe Pawelek - made a huge mistake by not going pro after his monster '08 season. That was his 4th year in the program! That's why he will turn 24 already late this year.

http://espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=173613

Sadly, Joe believed the outrageous Robert Griffin-hype, and felt like he could be part of a Baylor "turnaround" in his final year of eligibility. Whites are too gullible. After 128 tackles and 6 picks (in '08), the NFL was the ONLY logical option. He failed to top his '08 season in '09. I feel like he is now forgotten, maybe rightfully so..

If he gets drafted, it will probably be in the 5th, 6th or 7th rounds. Honestly, I'll be mighty SHOCKED if he gets drafted in the 4th round or earlier.

A little off-topic, but this IMO, is how all football teams should look:

Yeah, that's the downside to the Patriots drafting Gerhart, he would have almost be certain to be part of a committee at RB. My preference is to see him get drafted by a team that will use him as the workhorse he is, though of course thatis most likelymerely dreaming when it comes to the NFL. However, even Caste monkey Brian Billick said during the Combine that Gerhart was one of the very few backs in this draft who can carry the ball 350 times a season in the pros, so it's not impossible that he'll be taken by a team where he's a good fit, much like Austin Collie and Brian Hartline were last year.
