Danny Woodhead Update:

(snip)The return to his hometown doesn't mean Woodhead is totally relaxed and taking life easy, even though he noted he's kind of in "the off season mode." He said he tries "to work hard every day" while rehabilitating his knee that was severely injured early in the New York Jets training camp last summer.

He's pleased with the progress.

"The knee's doing great. I couldn't be happier," he said. "It (the injury) all happened for a reason. I can't be angry about it. I'm not worried about it at all and whether it will affect my career. I'll give it my best shot again during training camp and we'll see what happens."

Woodhead added that he is primarily trying to get his strength up to par after not playing last fall. He believes he has most of his speed back.

"If my speed's not what it was before (the injury), it is pretty close," he said during the telephone interview.(snip)

barely. Jacob Hester gaining over 1,000 yards at HB in the SEC opened up alot of eyes but mainly for White college runningbacks. Its very crucial for Peyton Hillis to get a fair shot at HB. Until we have a White hb run in the NFL for around 1,000 yards people will continue to think Whites are not good enough for the NFL, and the ones in college that succeed will be slotted to FB or H-Back and the smaller ones to slot receiver (which i can see them doing for woodhead, i hope not though). Peyton Hillis seems like our best shot for that next year. People think its because Whites aren't good enough to be starting tailbacks in the NFL, the truth is, they only need an opportunity and they will prove everyone wrong. Peyton Hillis was getting better every game until his injury.
But reading history it doesnt look good. Heath Evans filled in for injury 2 games and did fine and was not used as tailback much after that, although he did get occasional carries after that. Brad Hoover i believe had the same thing happen to him, except i dont even think he gets occasional carries, maybe a few passes.
People seem to think that this is the future, these new "versatile fullbacks" like Jacob Hester and Peyton Hillis, who can run occasionally (1-2 times a game) and be great receivers out of the backfield for (2-3 passes). In reality they are good enough to be starting tailbacks. The point i keep bringing up to fans who say this, if you have a guy who is so talented to be such an offensive threat, why only let him see the ball a few times a game? i think the answer is, because they are willing to accept a lesser role. It really doest make any sense to have players of their caliber seeing the ball 2-4 times a game.
So basically they are gaining a little ground in college, like Gerhart, Sharp, etc. but not really in the pros

Good post, dwid. The best sign of hope is that more white RBs in college were getting a chance to run the ball this past season. Hillis becoming a star would help too, but I think the only thing that will cause change is raising the consciousness of a lot more fans andwhite athletes and theirfamilies. Just look at how fanatically blacks are pushed whenever possible by the media, in sports and everything else. There has been no let-up whatsoever in the Caste System; black QBs and o-linemen are being pushed as hard as possible to replace whites at the last two positions where we were dominant numerically. The Caste System will only change as a result of pressure from the bottom up.

Yeah, I think more are waking up, but getting to the most dumb fans (the most brainwashed) is very hard. It is like talking to a brickwall. At first I wondered why they were reffered to as Drunk White Fans. After talking to some of them, they literally seem like drunken idiots. They base their opinions on players entirely on what the media and announcers tell them. It gets frustrating trying to get through to them. They probably watch the games drunk, listen to the biased announcers, and then rewatch the highlight clips the MEDIA WANTS them to see.

This Saints fan I have been talking to is deadset on the Saints picking Andre Smith in the first round. His logic is that Stinchcomb is horrible and the whole reason the run game suffered last year, and by adding Smith somehow Bush would get close to 5,000 yards in one season (he actually said a figure around 5,000, i will look up the post in a bit) Here it is, well it was another poster "
If you guys drafted Andre Smith and put him next to Jahri Evans, Reggie Bush would rush for 5,971 yards in one season. Book it."

I tried to tell him that Stinchcomb is very athletic RT and the Saints just locked him up for 5 years with a nice deal. The reason the run game suffered was because of the middle of the line, we need an upgrade at Center. Maybe RG, i dont know why everyone thinks Jahri Evans is such a great RG, he messes up blocking assignments all the time, and quite a few times Stinchcomb has to help him out and winds up looking bad. There have been a few plays where Evans didnt know his assignment and wound up tripping Stinchcomb to the ground. Who looks bad? Stinchcomb. Stinch is an above average run blocker and a great pass blocker, and very atheltic, great at getting to the next level, he is absolutely great on blocking for those little screens (getting out in space) we run for reggie bush.

There was no reasoning with this guy, he still insisted we draft Andre Smith and put him at RT, and an instant upgrade. I actually spent the time, made a video of every line play from the first game of the season to show who messed up on the line, who was getting beat and who was getting no push. Stinchcomb was getting push, it was the middle that was collapsing (pro bowl Jammal Brown got beat once and looked like he struggled the entire game, i witnessed a few holds that werent called like falling on a player). Stinchcomb made several key blocks, never got beat, but i mentioned on the forum about how the last play was a screen to reggie that Stinchcomb got out into space to make a block that freed reggie up for the winning touchdown.

His response was "Well guys, if one play isn't a good enough sample size for you, I don't know what is. You have to be related to Stinchcomb."

it was actually an ENTIRE game of line play. And then he automatically discredits anything i say because i said andre smith should have played in the bowl game because it was the most important game of their season, which i admitted several times i was wrong about. I forgot the SEC title game which would have put Alabama in the National Championship game. (ive seen people on there make much bigger mistakes and i was man enough to admit i was wrong) But i did have somewhat of a point, bowl games are important, they generate money for the school, whether its the national championship or the sugar bowl, the school gets more money for WINNING them. He should have cared.

but this guy thinks we will draft andre smith and put him at RT, even though we signed Stinchcomb to a 5 year deal. It MUST be the lone White guy that is the reason for the poor running game.

Another example: everyone on the Saints board talks about how Zach Strief looked horrible when he played in place of Jammal Brown and constantly got beat and they had to use a TE on his side to help with blocking. The only reason for thinking this is because the announcers kept talking about how unathletic he was. He got beat once. They showed the line getting beat twice, one was Strief, and the other was Evans. And he didnt receiver a tight end to help blocking, except on a few two tight end sets which we run every game. I rewatched the game, he held his own and only got beat once. IMO he could replace Jammal Brown if he had to. But...if it were up to me, I would put Stinchcomb at LT (he is very athletic and able to succeed at it, i think at a pro bowl type level) and put Strief at RT, and then trade Jammal Brown while we can still get something for him. His knees are shot and he walks like he is in his late 40's. That was before i knew hot to edit video, soon i will go and edit the game streif played in, EVERY SINGLE play and question where did he constantly struggle?

and me being accused of being related to Stinchcomb for talking about how good of a player he is? thats absurd
I responded with "and i guess you must be related to andre smith for taking up for him so much? that makes no damn sense, just because a fan takes up for a good player doesnt make them related to that player." Which i have gotten no response. He doesnt just take up for smith, its like this mancrush, which i dont understand why dwfs get those with players, its like they literally fall in love with a player.

I know this is a long post, but I mean, whats the best way to get through to dumbasses like this? I can't believe some people are actually this dumb. Its people like this that are keeping the caste system in place. They are too stupid it seems.

I think they hate on white players simply because they could'nt cut it Themselves. A poster who calls himself Giovan Micron, I think, has made some perfect post on that mindset.
Also, the first paragraph is right on. WAY to many white people just accept that the talking heads are the true "Experts". I get fed up with my relatives saying things like"Well Jamie Dukes, or Deon Sanders says"bla bla bla!

Danny Woodhead-RB-JetsApr. 17 - 7:42 pm et
Jets RB Danny Woodhead is taking a lot of first-team reps with the Jets during their recent OTAs.
Woodhead is currently third in line behind Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, so he's worth tracking. The bite-sized (5'7) undrafted DII product was the NCAA's all-time leading rusher and has great speed, but the Jets are likely to add to the position in the draft. Source: Newsday </font>

it's nice that he gets the opportunity to showcase what he can do. I can't wait to see him in the pre-season!

I hope he comes back even stronger than pre-injury. Woodhead is the type that will work so unbelievably hard that he just might. I bet he's even STRONGER physically than he was before, I just hope he hasn't lost even a tad of his 4.33/4.38 speed.

I'm actually a little optimistic that Woodhead will show his stuff this pre-season enough to get a roster spot or be practice squaded. Does anyone have any predictions?
We all know this guy is talented enough for an MJD type role. It's all about whether this new coaching staff has any backbone to shake things up a little by keeping a white RB.

As long as he isnt taken out when he is on a roll I can see him well over four yards per carry during preseason, and hopefully get playing time as the 2nd or 3rd back.

His biggest problem, even forgetting the gigantic racial hurdle of 25 years standing, is that Leon Washington is the same type of back, and one of the best scatbacks in the league. As long as Washington is there Woodhead is unlikely to play.

If Danny can stay at 3rd string RB behind Jones and Washignton,I say there is a good chance he will see action sometime during 16 games. Seeing the impossible happen with Peyton Hillis getting a shot after a rash of injuries has reminded me that it could be possible for other white backs to play. Now whether or not they get to keep that role is another thing

Gentlemen,

As a long, long, long, suffering Jet fan, I hope for the best, but I know that somehow, someway, something bad will befall this cursed franchise. There will never ever be a Jet team that will succeed. No matter who gets a shot. This new coach may be the greatest coach the planet has ever seen, but for some reason, he will not succeed with the Jets. Nor will poor Danny. It will never happen. Never, Never, Never!!!

DraftDaddy linked this mostly complimentary article on Woodhead, but it contains a couple of ridiculously blatant insults that would never be made regarding blacks. i'll copy/paste them below.

Danny Woodhead walks around the New York Jets' locker room looking as if he's just somebody's kid brother.

After all, he's only 5-foot-7½ and a tuft of chin hair is the only proof that he's even old enough to shave ...

"Clearly he can run with the football and things," Rex Ryan said before comparing him to another of his boyish-looking players. "First thing I noticed was, 'Hey, there's another Jim Leonhard out there.' We got the two guys that look like your next&shy;door neighbor and stuff like that, but that's good. Certainly, Jim Leonhard has proved people wrong and I think (Woodhead's) got a chance as well."

That's pathetic, but pretty much obligatory. The unspoken context is that "exceptions" to the artificial black status quolike Woodhead and Leonhard are "boys" while the "real" players on the team are men.

It's rare to read an article about a white man that doesn't describe him as "boyish" at some point, no matter his age. They're also outright referred to as "boys" in different contexts. Black men are never described as boys or boyish, and women, no matter their race, are only very rarely called "girlish."

Sometimes I wonder if this phenomena of referring to whites males as boys is to a large extent language meant to set the people using the references up as elders (with purpose or unconsciously...no clue). Maybe the white (comparative to most others, anyway) tendency to respect their elders is something that others have picked up, and use these labels to redirect that instinct.

Yeah, who needs "boys" like Jim Leonhard when you have real "men" like Ed Reed (barely over 30 tackles this season)....or "men" like Boob Sanders (who can barely suit-up for a game without injuring himself).

Don's right, Washington is an good little scat-back...Woodhead's only shot is becoming a Sean Morey-esque white special teams deamon and moving on to another caste team.

I think Woodhead is on the outside looking in with the signing of Shonn Greene. Very few 3rd rounders get cut. So if Woodhead gets bumped to 4th string tailback he will be a bubble boy who needs to contribute on special teams to make the active roster. I still think he is on the inside track to make the practice squad though.

Maybe there's an alternative way for a white running back to see the field other than the six blacks ahead of him on the depth chart all getting injured -- having them all become "disgruntled."
Two of the New York Jets' top running backs -- Leon Washington and Thomas Jones -- are reportedly unhappy with their contracts and are skipping offseason workouts.

Danny's been getting a lot of reps, this is from associated press

In the meantime, Woodhead is making the most of his increased repetitions and Ryan said he has been impressed by him. The speedy, 5-foot-7 former Chadron State star was quickly becoming a favorite after being signed as an undrafted free agent last summer, but tore up his left knee early in camp and missed the season.

"This is what everyone wants," said Woodhead, who once held the NCAA career rushing record. "They want to get as many reps as possible, and I'm cherishing this thing. I don't have enough time to think about whether I'm sore or I'm tired."

In a fair world we shouldnt be worried about Shonn Greene, it would be ridiculous to think that he should be ahead on the depth chart above Woodhead. Did anybody notice the run blocking at Iowa? I dont think the Jets are going to provide him with that big of holes to go through
