just a quick post showing how our guys are doing on defense ...
3 of the top 5 national sack leaders are gritty, overachieving, blue collar, gym rats. Xander Mueller (lb, Northwestern) leads the country with 6. Drew Sanders (lb, Arkansas) is tied for second with 5.5, and Derek Parish (dl, Houston) is fourth with 5.0.
“linebacker” Tristan Driggers (ULM) is tied for second nationally with 3 interceptions. a whole slew of players are tied for fifth with 2 interceptions, including defensive backs Cooper DeJean (Iowa), Asa Turner (Washington), and Jack Howell (Colorado State) and linebackers Kyle Soelle (Arizona State), Colby Reeder (Iowa State), and Xander Mueller (Northwestern), who is making a case for national defensive player of the year.
Jason Henderson (lb, Old Dominion) is second in the nation in tackles, while Kyle Soelle (ASU) is tied for third.
“crazy” how so many non-athletes are at the top of the defensive statistics when so few get the opportunity to even play (compared to “real” players).
