Over and over I've heard from Lemaitre's own lips; (paraphrased): "I really am looking forward to good performances as my training has gone well." Then when the race results fall short of his expectations, both Christophe and his coach come out with the excuses. I can understand Carraz as the coach needing to explain away his athlete's failure to perform up to the condition he exhibits in training; after all he can't throw his athlete under the track, and needs to psychologically keep Christophe positive. Christophe himself needs to rationalize his performances that fail to meet what training indicates he was capable of.
My point is either Christophe is lying about his pre-race fitness, or he is ready and fit, and he is the sole reason for not achieving what he's physically capable of, but perhaps mentally, he is his own biggest opponent.
If that's the case then Carraz has less to do with Lemaitre's failures and the actual running fails falls at Christophe's feet. The bucks (times) stop there in the end.
That's not to say Lemaitre couldn't have done better than Carraz, but he may well have wasted what Carraz has provided him. He wouldn't be the first athlete who fails to duplicate his training condition as this sport is not just bones & fast-twitch fibers, but also synapses and neuro transmitters.
