Cam Skattebo

NFL.com redrafts Cam as top RB and top 10 pick even though he's been injured for a while. Great to see those props!

Here's a nice package of Skattebo rookie highlights:

By any and all measures, he is a very good running back. He can be great if he stays healthy and is afforded the opportunity,

Here’s hoping his rehab goes well and he is full force for the next season.

Some high praise from the man who's going to be blocking for Cam. Short excerpt:

Skattebo will like what he hears when he listens to Ricard compare him to Baltimore Ravens stud Henry. Speaking to NFL Insider Jordan Shultz on “The Schultz Report,” All-Pro fullback Ricard had this to say about Skattebo and ‘King Henry’: “I feel like Skatt is very similar. He might be a little bit smaller, but that dude runs really hard and really downhill. And just to see him play last year with (quarterback Jaxson) Dart, and just see, like, that juice and the energy that they bring. I’m really looking forward to, you know, blocking for him (Skattebo) and getting his career going.”

I like Cam's confidence:

Cam Skattebo insists he will be "ready to go" Week 1 as he continues his rehab from a gruesome leg injury. That is good news for the Giants as the running back had 125 carries for 617 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie. Skattebo has much bigger goals for his second season. "I do not consider that successful for me," Skattebo said of his rookie season, via Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press. "I had 400 yards on 100 carries. When I play 17-plus games this year, it's going to be 300 carries for over 2,000 yards."

Our view: As Profootballtalk.com points out, nine running backs have had a 2,000-yard season, the most recent coming by Saquon Barkley in 2024. Eric Dickerson owns the NFL record with his 2,105 rushing yards in 1984. Tiki Barber holds the Giants team record with 1,860 rushing yards in 2005. Skattebo's lofty goals might be over the top, but even though he only appeared in eight games last season, Skattebo was RB10 when he was hurt, despite not being a starter until Week 4. His RB20 ADP makes him an appealing play.

Yes sir Don. Why can't more of our white athletes have this confidence? I love it when our guys just know they are the best player on the field and don't hide it. Too many guys just happy to be there. That needs to change for more or our guys to become pro bowlers. Cam Skattebo can talk the talk as good as he walks the walk. It's refreshing as too many our our athletes just are happy to be paid and they stay quiet.

Because jealousy will ensue and the white man more than likely suffer a season ending cheap shot like Skattebo last year. Unfortunately, I think it’s best to just fly under the radar. Put up numbers but don’t be flamboyant or you’re gonna be a target as a white rb.

Hard to disagree with that, though I think we sometimes assume White athletes are familiar with the racial dynamics of sports when they often aren't. White athletes grow up being bombarded with the same never contradicted propaganda and myths that turn Whites into DWFs.

A generation ago I watched the few White receivers in the league be brutalized on a regular basis. Eventually they learned better when to go down rather than constantly absorbing crushing hits, and also the league has done a better job of trying to reduce head hunting. I love Cam's enthusiasm and self-belief, but hopefully he's smart enough to know when a play's over, much like Jaxson Dart needs to if they both want to thrive in the NFL.

The dynamic of being a white athlete is no different than the dynamic of being a regular white person. Nobody has your back, certainly not other whites. You’re on an island alone. It’s why most white guys just stay quiet and get on with their career.

Jordy was the perfect example. Break off a 80 yard td, toss the ball to the refs and then turn around embrace his teammates. I know blacks do it all the time, but it drives me nuts when white scores a touchdown, and then run away from their team and flex or celebrate and some other way. Makes them a target and and their black teammates, resent them. The tight ends can get away with it cause they’re bigger faster, and stronger than the linebackers and safeties that will target them,

I agree. This is what concerns me most about Shipley. It was what concerned be about Gerhart. Borghi. Steele. The “Aw shucks I’m happy to be here and will do whatever the team needs.”

Guys like McCaffrey and Skattebo have the right attitude as they truly know they are the best and not afraid to say it.

McCaffrey’s a whole different animal than Skattebo. He’s definitely confident but nowhere near as flamboyant as Skattebo. He also has a dad that was a really good NFL player, a mom that was a college athlete and a grandpa that was a world class track athlete so they can play it up like he’s some kind of genetic freak. In his early days, his parents and grandpa were always mentioned during the games. Skattebo doesn’t have that lineage and all of the backflips, dancing, etc. is only gonna lead to trouble in my opinion. I hope not.

I think El Gringo brings up great points, but my guess is Skattebo has already been "accepted" by the powers-that-be that run the NFL. I honestly believe they like what he brings to the table and want him to succeed. It's merely a question if he can maximize his talents and, more importantly, can he stay healthy -- as blacks and belligerent mulattoes will target him.

Why do I think this way?

Watching the draft, the NFL Network kept (heavily) running their own ad with Skattebo being very prominent in it -- being shirtless and jovial with NFLN analyst (Fitzpatrick) after the Eagles Thursday Night Game. Why would "they" include him so prominently in a NFLNetwork promo, if they intended to "cleanse" him or relegate him to non-factor status, ala Will Shipley or Toby Gerhart?

They believe he can be a rare White break-out star at a racially taboo position. It seems they are not only embracing it, but appear to be promoting it. Same way Christian McCaffrey appeared in a few national advertisements as a rookie - Capital One Bank, a Watch company, I think? Think about it, 2 starting White tailbacks out of 32 isn't exactly trending "all White" and CMac is much closer to the end of his career, than the start!

Skattebo and his best friend, Jaxon Dart, have already landed a deal with a huge sponsor, Bounty. Below, the flamboyant pair are doing their "act" for the 40 year old High School Cheerleader, Kay Adams, who sits next to Roger Goodell at games.

I think Skattebo has added some other sponsors, Buffalo Wild Wings, Tecovas (boots) and he has appeared as a "Taco eating expert" for the Food Network?

Great post and I agree with it all. He’s a lovable character and as you point out has been accepted by the league and the fans. Trust me I love seeing a him run over blacks and celebrate with a backflip, but we all know how envious, petty and evil blacks can be so he will be targeted. There’s no chance Cameron will change his antics so all we can do is hope for a healthy season and big numbers.
