agreed the number of players who run 4.4 40s in the NFL, regardless of position, is no where near as high as they would like you to think.

Very true. Its my opinion that the almighty 40 is the main tool used to build, and repair the brainwashing that is American football. They use that forty time anyway they need to. In all actuality what could be more useless in gauging football talent than running 40 yards in track shoes with no pads on?

Like dwid always says, many times white players simply have their times slowed down, and blacks have theirs sped up. The 40 is a huge problem, and I hate it with a vengeance. If a black guy runs a fast 40 they will bring up that fast time for a decade. Every time he drops a pass, blows a coverage, gets a stupid penalty, muffs a punt, or fumbles the commentator will remind us that he ran a 4.3 forty.

If a white guy runs a fast forty its ALWAYS discredited, or ignored. Ive never once heard mention of a white player being "blazing fast", or "the fastest guy on the field". They refer to our guys only as "sneaky fast", or "deceptive speed".

Matt Jones is a great example. The guy was the fastest guy on the field anytime he was out there, yet they tried to make him a tight end. He ran something ridiculous like a 4.38 or something in the almighty 40, but they never mentioned it. Their are dozens of other examples.

Agreed, and getting a little off subject here, but I argued this a DWF here in Carolina about white high school football players running better 40 and shuttle times than blacks and why D-1 schools were not offering these guys. His excuse was; maybe the some players haven't reached their full potential, while other kids had maybe peaked.

Yeah right, that's why we have combines. If a white RB runs a 4.9 he's too slow, he'll never get a look and if he runs a 4.5, he's peaked. This is insane!

I may be wrong, but I don't think most players improve their 40 time from the senior year in high school till they are seniors in college? What you run in high school is most of the time your best and it doesn't get much better, typically.

16 or 17 of the college RB's invited to the 2013 NFL combine ran a 4.6 or higher. Robbie Rouse of Fresno State ran a 4.8 at 5'6 190 lbs. Imagine if Danny Woodhead would have run a 4.8 at his pro-day? We would have never heard from him!

I presented these numbers to the DWF and said, I guess Robbie Rouse ran a 5.1, 40 in high school at 5'6 so they gave a 5'6 170 RB, 5.1 in the 40 out of high school a full D-1 scholarship to Fresno State based on dat upside? Of course I received no response from this DWF!

Other College RB's invited to the 2013 NFL combine with less than impressive 40 times, include Ray Graham, Pitt. 4.8, Lonnie Pryor FSU, 4.7, Stepfan Taylor Stanford, 4.76, George Winn, Cincinnati 4.75,

Don't bother looking these guys up on NFL Draft Scout, somehow their times were lowered from their original times for some strange reason!

I could go on and on...

It's a shame, so many white high school RB's across the country that run much better 40 times may play at D-1 AA, or lower or may never even play at all!

I have but not recently. The announcers mentioned several times that Tim Dwight was the fastest player on the field. Same goes for Travis Jervey and Bill Schroeder. This was some years ago of course, haven't heard anything like this recently.

Its alot easier when they ignore the faster White athletes. Where is Sam McGuffie? Jake Sharp? A guy like Andy Tanner will stick around (who I think is good and can start) and a guy like McGuffie who has that "upside" they always talk about not given a chance. He only had like a year or so experience at wideout

Woodhead is recognized for his quickness but not his speed. I don't even think fans know he ran in the 4.3/4.4 range. The reason why we see more of his quickness is because of passing formations, more unblocked defenders he has to make miss. Let him run more traditional plays with a couple of dbs to beat to the endzone and he will do it.

Back to black quarterbacks, Thad Lewis looks bad, great supporting cast though. I see the stat line for Cooper is 0 catches. Amazing how they went up the two weeks Vick wasn't in there.

Yes but Jervey may have been the fastest running back in the league at that time. Also, Tim Dwight ran 10.4 100 meters so it was no wonder he was mentioned as being fast.

Is there any denying that the black quarterbacks in the NFL are at best game managers and at worst turnover prone, scatter-armed laughing stocks? Well let me provide some statistics to back up this claim. Here is the bottom 10 quarterbacks out of qualifying players in yards per game (see last column on the right):

1Josh Freeman, QBMIN/TB6314742.97615.183924852.6190
2Terrelle Pryor, QBOAK9915763.11,1497.3273572277.2192
3EJ Manuel, QBBUF8515056.79856.5745531379.4197
4Colin Kaepernick, QBSF11319857.11,5848.0064951587.6198
5Michael Vick, QBPHI7714154.61,2158.6270531586.4203
6Chad Henne, QBJAC13221860.61,4506.6559351675.3207
7Christian Ponder, QBMIN7312160.38366.9147251369.4209
8Jake Locker, QBTEN9415261.81,0476.8966811297.1209
9Russell Wilson, QBSEA11518761.51,4897.96551142097.2213
10Cam Newton, QBCAR13120264.91,5527.68791252197.6222

An impressive 7 out of 10 are black. They range from the "impressive" game managers like Kaepernick, Wilson and Newton to the putrid Freeman, Pryor and Vick. The only Whites who "shame" this list are Henne, who's a journeyman on a talentless team. Ponder, a struggling but still raw young talent who is universally hated by the msm. Locker, who's could be called a game manager at this point but was really emerging before a nasty hip injury. I would wager he won't be on this list at the end of the season.

Also, let me mention the 2 black quarterbacks who lead their brethren in passing yards per game, Griffin and Smith. Both have lousy QB ratings and both are amongst the leaders in turnovers (interceptions and fumbles). So when the blacks are "airing it out" they are failing in that matter too.

There is not 1 black or mulatto quarterback who can even hold a candle to the elite White players in the NFL.

They can dream all they want but they will never be able to dissect a defense like brees, rodgers and company.

It's ironic how the 49ers, Raiders and Seattle are essentially winning behind strong defense and a running game - kind of like the Broncos of 2011 - yet Tebow is somehow not allowed to be an NFL starter and these guys are "revolutionizing the position"

Its a joke. they have been mere game managers but they wont be called that whereas alex smith is stuck as a game manager not having the luxury of a strong running game in comparison.

In a way, they are. I've been paying particular attention the last few weeks to playcalling in regards to quarterbacks and black quarterbacks, and in this regard, yes, it's "revolutionary"

Most "traditional" (read: white) quarterbacks have an initial read which is typically downfield (70% plus) then they go into read progressions. With black quarterbacks now, the initial read in that same 70 percentile is a short pass. You can simply watch them "follow" their initial read in the game to verify this observation. Then if the initial read is covered, they will generally bail out and any long pass is solely due to broken coverage on the scramble. Of course, there are always exceptions within the game, but this is the predominant trend.

FootballDad - I have noticed the same thing. The play calling is totally different.Geno Smiff is my favorite black quarterback to watch because most of his throws are short crossing patterns - very easy reads and second read is a dumb off pass to a back out of the backfield - he is borderline retarded out there and was exposed yesterday - it was great to see.

Football Dad nails it. I think Kapernick is an exception but it still is One done then run as far as reads go. To take this back to white qbs a lot of the average ones could be made serviceable by going with what FD has described, think Ponder.

True, Kraepernick is given more of a "white QB" role in the 'niners offense. Midget Wilson, on the other hand, is given a "high school" approach. Most of his snaps are roll outs, mostly to his right, but sometimes to the left. The idea is to isolate a side of the field so that he doesn't have to read the entire field, just half of it. With this "dumbing down", they can then call downfield shots in the Seahawks offense.

This really isn't new. This was the case for David Garrard for years and he got by and looked like a serviceable qb. Its the reason Matt Jones never really looked great, even though he was on pace for 1k his final year there. They had him running 5 yard routes. When Randy Moss had to run small possession routes he looked average, like Moss, Jones was a long strider, not a guy that can cut quickly and turn a hitch route into something big (well maybe he could, its hard to tell since they never ran anything different, you get defenses used to routes like that then run the hitch and go and they start giving up more cushion it might have looked different) Go and post patterns were his main thing. Jones rarely got to see those

A few years ago we used to have some fun in the weekly NFL thread by regularly posting the paltry passing totals of the starting black QBs of the time, as reaching the 200 yard mark was often a rare "accomplishment," roughly equivalent to a White QB throwing for 350+ yards.

I note that Andre Ellington of the Cardinals was the only running back in the league to reach 100 yards rushing in Week 8 (excluding of course tonight's MNF game), just one more bit of evidence that the NFL is more of a passing league than ever, something no one disputes.

Yet here were yesterday's passing totals by the World's Greatest Athletes, the ones we've been told for almost 20 years now were going to "revolutionize" the position: Robert Griffin 132 yards; Thadeus Lewis 234 yards; Geno Smiff 159 yards; Colin Kaepernick 164 yards; Jason Campbell 293 yards; Terrelle Pryor 88 yards; and Michael Vick 30 yards before being injured. The combined total of the seven blacks who started yesterday was a puny 1,100 yards and a mere 5 passing TDs, 2 of them by Campbell, who is a semi-pocket type passer who can occasionally string together a few decent games but who isn't a starting caliber quarterback.

Here's how some of the "inferior athletes" at the position did: Drew Brees 26/34/332/5; Andy Dalton 19/30/325/5; Matt Stafford 33/48/488/1; Peyton Manning 30/44/354/4; Aaron Rodgers 24/29/285/2; Matt Ryan 34/61/301/1; and Big Ben 29/45/275/2. Those seven combined for 2,360 yards and 19 passing TDs.

Oh, but the amazing running ability of the black QBs equals out the total yardage, right? Not exactly -- the black QBs combined for 198 rushing yards, 93 of them on a single run by Pryor, while the White QBs ran for 57 yards. Some "revolution."

Now throw in game manager extraordinaire, Russell Wilson. This super duper athlete had an astonishing 139 passing yards plus a mind blowing 16 yards rushing. The speedster was also sacked 7 times, 3 of those by the "stiff hipped" Chris Long. How does that happen when one is so magical? All this against a poor Rams team.

Again, Don and I have provided the most resent statistics and evidence. There is nothing revolutionary or magical about the latest bunch of black quarterbacks. The latest push by The Powers That Be has been a failure just like all of their previous attempts.

Here's an update of the chart I posted yesterday. It now takes into account Wilson's game. Remember yards per game is the last column on the right.

RKPLAYERTEAMCOMPATTPCTYDSYDS/ALONGTDINTSACKRATEYDS/G
1Josh Freeman, QBMIN/TB6314742.97615.183924852.6190
2Terrelle Pryor, QBOAK9915763.11,1497.3273572277.2192
3EJ Manuel, QBBUF8515056.79856.5745531379.4197
4Colin Kaepernick, QBSF11319857.11,5848.0064951587.6198
5Michael Vick, QBPHI7714154.61,2158.6270531586.4203
6Russell Wilson, QBSEA12520561.01,6287.94801342799.0204
7Chad Henne, QBJAC13221860.61,4506.6559351675.3207
8Christian Ponder, QBMIN7312160.38366.9147251369.4209
9Jake Locker, QBTEN9415261.81,0476.8966811297.1209
10Cam Newton, QBCAR13120264.91,5527.68791252197.6222

Blacks now hold the top (bottom) 6 spots. When will BSPN and the other talking heads start calling these guys game managers?

What's amazing is that the horrid statline for black QB is a standard week but the white statline it was compared to came off a fairly bad week for white QBs.

Oh please, don't be so dramatic. Tebow never got criticized for a 150 yard game as long as he kept winning.

Why ya'll got make everything about race around here?

Yes he did and despite being a true winner he was always criticized and thrown out of the league. How many black quarterbacks have you seen that happen to? Freeman puts up horrendous numbers and he gets to start for another team. Don't feed me your bull****! What world are you from?

I think Pie was missing the smiley or the <sarcasm> tags. Pretty sure he's joking. Tebow was criticized no matter what he did, we all remember that.
