Black QBs in the NFL

Jason Campbell had what, two or three starting gigs to prove what everyone knew except for certain NFL teams, namely that he's backup level at best. The same is likely Freeman's fate. Campbell is who Freeman reminds me of, another first round pick who is a semi-pocket passer but who is a beat or three too slow reading defenses and isn't accurate enough.

At least Christian Ponder is signed for two more seasons, so he may get another opportunity if/when Freeman flops again.

Ponder was screwed over plain and simple. People expect rookie qbs to come into the league and perform well right away instead of being developed like in years past. Ponder got less than two full seasons under his belt as a starter before the Vikings made the decision to screw him over. Players like Bree's, romo, Rodgers, rivers, Palmer all sat and were developed and did not come right into the league and play.

Freeman was given 4 seasons and a full offseason to prove he could not hack it in this league yet is still given the Vikings job gift wrapped with plenty of excuses when he fails.

I hope ponder is picked up by another team with a coach that knows how to develop qbs. He has more talent and is much smarter than freeman.

Hey CF'ers,

Long time, no post, as I basically spent the last 3 plus weeks moving. What a pain, as you never know how much crap you actually have until you move.

Anyway, as far as the last week or two in the NFL, with the main exception of the whole Freeman and Ponder fiasco/shakedown, things haven't been that bad if you think about it. Brady and the Pats shined again against a great, ever-accurate Brees' led (likely to-be NFC Champs) Saints team, that could be a Super Bowl preview. Ben and the Steelers took care of Smith and the Jets (eat that, NY media...), Alex Smith and the Chiefs knocked off Pryor and the Raiders, and Romo's multi-target balance and Dallas' D led by Sean Lee took care of Griffin by humiliating him at every turn. Andy Dalton won AFC Player of the Week Honors for his OT led victory over the Bills against what would have been an over-hyped victory had the backup Lewis won for the Bills. And of course, P. Manning played smart and got a well-fought yet unexpected tough win against the Jags of all teams.

Not a bad week if you really think about it, with whole Caste System against our players at every turn...

The big game to pay attention to this week is #3 Clemson vs #5 Florida State. The game features two supa quotablacks and will determine the Heisman and BCS championship game.

I can guarantee this is one game that I definitely WILL NOT be paying any attention to, except to hope that both black quarterbacks stick up the joint and go into overtime in a 2 to 2 tie.

I'd like to see Clemson knock off FSU and Clemson lose to South Carolina later in the year. That'd be the ideal outcome for the ACC teams.

Stephen Morris has thrown 4 picks tonight. There's also been a few dropped interceptions.

I saw an interview with "famous" Jameis Winston on TMZSPN a few days ago. This dude can't even articulate and we're supposed to believe that this mental midget will be able to read complex NFL defenses? yeah right, only by dumbing down the game can they shoehorn all these black quarterbacks into the league.

The game has already been dumbed down plus poor db play by affleetes, thats why 4k is no feat anymore, multiple have thrown for 5k. This is why college coaches haven't had a hard time transitioning where as a while back they did, like Steve Spurrier, and Pete Carrol's first failed attempt.

ONe thing that I've noticed is the completely different pass/play calls for white QBs vs black quarterbacks. It's the opposite. A typical white QB will have his first read be downfield and the dink and dunk will normally only come on a checkdown. The exception is with the occasional screen or quick hitter to the WR. black quarterbacks it's the opposite. The majority of play calls are for the "dink" to be the first read, the downfield shot only if the WR is wide open after the QB runs around. With the paucity of decent defenders these days, the "dink and dunk"-read-first offense is actually pretty smart, as downfield tackling skills are poor with many players these days.

Tajh Boyd scored 7 points against a good Florida State defense. While Manziel put up crazy stats against a superior Alabama defense.

and yet we're supposed to believe Tajh Boy is a superior NFL prospect.

Jason Campbell is starting this week for the browns:tsk:

While I don't think Campbell will have any success I think it was starting to be clear that Weeden was never going to be the answer. I really hope Hoyer gets another opportunity to start, whether at the Browns if they don't draft a QB this year, or somewhere else.

The Chiefs defense has 16 and a half sacks against the two black quarterbacks they faced. Cambell is in trouble.

RGknee sees more affletic QB's making their way to the pros.. This guy is a joke he should worry about winning some games and not getting absolutely clobbered and outclassed at QB this weekend in Denver!

DWFs love to talk about how great the current crop of quotablacks is at passing from the pocket but if anything has been learned from RGScreen this year it's that he absolutely sucks in the pocket.

For the most part, black QB's don't see enough, fast enough, and when they do, they're taken by surprise and run. Most real good White QBs have excellent periferal vision and see that first step (sort of like a mental snapshot) of the D Linmen and post that in their minds and have a fair idea of how long they have and seem to constantly get rid of the ball slightly ahead of the arrival of the rusher. That's the difference and always will be the difference.

Griffin is an idiot and has been exposed in his second year as an avg QB. Mobility from within the pocket and keeping your eyes downfield are the key ingredients that make a QB successful. Not taking off running instead of buying extra time from within the pocket to let a receiver get open.

Interesting article from Yahoo sports.
And neither are the college ranks anymore. The NFL was spoiled for decades by so many college coaches running pro-style offenses that led to fairly smooth transitions. Now the spread is the rage in the college game and while many of those elements work and NFL teams are embracing that system, it has yet to fully mesh.
Brett Favre is better than 99% of black QBs coming out of college even at the age of 44. In the NFL's rush to bring black QBs into the league they've only succeeding in embarrassing them when compared to people like Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Ryan, etc. Until every white drop back QB has retired this will keep happening.

I recall seeing one or two ends running high 4.5X times but they were smallish ends who were tweener types and were more project types that teams would take a flyer on in the late rounds. This story is more caste type nonsense.

agreed the number of players who run 4.4 40s in the NFL, regardless of position, is no where near as high as they would like you to think. I recall Bruce Irvin running a great 40 time couple years back ,albeit he was probably roided up.

Irvin ran a 4.5 even at 245, its listed on nfl combine site as a 4.5 but it got changed to 4.41 on nfldraftscout, places tend to change times of players, usually White players making their times slower, espescially if they come out of nowhere and do well.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...-harrison-accused-of-faking-concussion-102613

"Josh Freeman's nightmare season isn't ending — or is it?

Freeman suffered a concussion during his disastrous first start for the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night in New York, the team announced Wednesday, forcing him to sit out Sunday's game against Green Bay.
However, that announcement came a day after they said the exiled Bucs QB would start Sunday.
After watching Freeman struggle in a 23-7 loss to the Giants, there are some skeptics who are not convinced Freeman really has a concussion and think either he is trying to chicken out of a bad situation in Minnesota, or the Vikings are trying to keep him off the field.
One of those skeptics who doesn't mind going on the record is NBC analyst Rodney Harrison."

""I can't say that I believe he has a concussion," Harrison told NBC Sports Radio, via Awful Announcing. "I can't say that I'm 100 percent sold out. I'm not trying to doubt the seriousness of his injury if he has one, but it just seems like a convenient excuse to get out of a situation. That's what it seems like.""

and excuses "he just needs a full offseason with a competent staff and team", yeah where was that for guys like Gabbert? I think the last quarterback to do well in Jacksonville was Mark Brunell, just a poorly run team.

Harrison also said a few weeks ago that it was time to bench Cam Newton. Black guy telling it like it is?

Rodney Harrison seems like the kind of guy that tells it like he sees it. I recall when he did say that Carolina should bench Scam. Tony Dungey was quick to disagree with him, and stutter out some excuse for Scam.
