The heavyweight division still looks bright. Povetkin could really test the legitimacy of those two black hopes (Stiverne and Wilder).

Alexander Povetkin returns on Friday against Carlos Takam

Arif Magomedov (12-0, age 22) fights Michael Zerafa (15-0, age 22) on the same card.

Also on the card:

Manuel Charr vs. Michael Grant

Vladimir Goncharov vs. Murad Khalidov (both undefeated HWs)

Rakhim Chakhkiev vs. Giacobbe Fragomeni (European cruiserweight title)

Eduard Troyanovsky (18-0) vs. Jose Alfato

And some fine Russian prospects, such as light heavyweight Umar Salamov (11-0, 10 KO, age 20) who looks like the next Sergey Kovalev. Every single fighter on this card has a winning record.

In one of the best HW fights I've seen, Povetkin KOed Takam in the 10th.

Povetkin had trouble adjusting to Takam's long reach in the early rounds (Takam was ahead on two scorecards cards after 4) and was stunned a couple of times, but never went down.

Takam was down in the 9th and knocked out cold in the 10th with a beautiful punch.

Excuse my language but wow, Alexander Povetkin is ****ing awesome! What a god damn KO. Really doesn't get any better than this.

It shows tremendous skill, boxing know how, and championship mentality to be in a tough 50-50 type fight andthen pull out the win with an emphatic late round KO.

Probably the best win of Pov 's career because Takam is a great fighter, great amateur background, and a legitimate top 10 heavyweight. Takam holds wins over Tony Thompson and a draw with Mike Perez(which I thought Takam won) among others.

Tremendously impressive win from Povetkin who seems to be hitting his career best form. He'd annihilate Wilder and St I Verne on the same night.

With this kind of form I'd like to see a rematch with Wlady at some point.

Excellent win! I have always said, Povetkin is the best fighter outside of Wladimir. I am surprised that Carcharias and BS2 felt it was a 50-50 fight. This guy can fight.

Very impressive indeed! Povetkin looked very very strong and he also took punches perfectly and he was in great shape. I think he looked much better than he ever did before, at least the way I remember him. As for the 50-50 thing, Boxrec had Takam ranked #5 in the world and Povetkin #6 (they still do but they'll have to change that).

Interesting chants from the Russian fans. It says "Vityaz" on the back of Povetkin's trunks. Vityaz is Russian anti-terrorism special forces.

That was a spectacular win by Alex. He looked to be in outstanding condition and quick in his footwork and great snap on his punches obviously. Great to see him back in top form. Hopefully he will get the winner of Wilder vs Stirverene .

He wasn't even breathing hard between rounds.

I don't think that Takam had ever before been off his feet in a boxing match. He was 30-1, his only loss being by decision in '09.

Takam who is from Cameroon was one of the best black heavyweights in the world on present form going into that fight so it was a great win for Povetkin.Povetkin showed some heart as Takam who weighed in at 252 lbs caught him with some big shots particularly an uppercut in the middle rounds that would have ko'ed many heavyweights.Povetkin is a great inside fighter and demolished his opponent the last 2 rounds.

"Povetkin is a great inside fighter"

Yeah, dig those krazy uppercuts!

BoxRec has moved Povetkin up to #3 in their rankings, right behind Wlad and Pulev, and dropped Takam from 5 to 14. That's pretty radical.

Yes in the past Povetkin had a bit of a blown up cruiserweight look to his physique. This fight he looked very solid and fit. That was partially the difference against the huge West African.

As bad a beating that he took against Wlad, in his last two fights he has looked as sharp as he looked around the time he beat Eddie Chambers and was in line to fight Wlad years ago. If he were to fight for the WBC title he would be the betting favorite IMO.

Ps the fight with Syrian refugee against Michael Grant was pathetic. Any boxing jurisdiction that licenses Grant is asking for a bad knockout as he has nothing left and is a violent ko waiting to happen. His reflexes are like a man punching into a gale force wind....

That short right hand was a perfect reincarnation of Rocky M.'s Suzy Q.

KOs are great to listen to in a Slavic language. Sounded like the same duo that covered the Kessler-Green KO, even the same (at 17 secs) "wot dit dot dot" or "wot dit dot da." Whatever that means, it sounds good to the ear.

A lot of Klitschko victims fade away badly, but it looks like Alexander is right back in it. Ten or fifteen years ago I would have been more over the moon with this KO, but it has become almost routine. Not that our guys win every time, but we're winning our share nowadays.

I agree. I think it shows how good Wlad is that the fight with Povetkin wasn't very competitive. Wlad is just in a different class. But good win for Povetkin.

Once again a black athlete shows that a lot of what we've been seeing and hearing for decades may partly be the result of an artificial situation. Perez experienced the longest 91 seconds of his life against Povetkin, not that he has any conscious recollection of the fight:

Next up for Povetkin; a title shot against Wilder, right? Not likely. Then again, Povetkin is another boring White heavyweight. Or so we're told. Those KO's against Perez, Takam, Rahman, Boswell...he's bored his black opponets so much they passed out, right?

Flat footed, slow, and boring. These are just some of the comments I read about Povetkin. 90 percent of the time these comments come from blacks, but white fools also post the3m.

No doubt about it. It also must be cause Povetkin is using PEDs to beat these supreme and naturally gifted black monsters. Russia's drug testing must be flawed.

Nope! Povetkin is just slow, flat footed and not very good. These are the comments from just about every black. How can this slow stiff beat all these black monsters?

And don't forget the wigs. Don't leave them out. I especially like this wig comment on fightnews:

Look at his photos on his page, he's a fat wigger.

Wilder has done nothing to prove he can beat a fighter of Povetkin's caliber. Just look at his resume. He is all show for desperate people that are desperate for a black American HW champion.

What Povetkin did the other day was impressive, period. It has nothing to do with what wiggers think will happen in a potential Wilder fight. They just show their lack of class by refusing to give credit where it's due. I hate Wilder and his fans but even I would give him credit if he did something impressive. He has yet to do anything of note so I haven't given him any yet. I'm still waiting.
