Alexander Povetkin

Povetkin's body didn't look that good at the weigh in. I hope it doesn't mean anything.

Povetkin looking a bit disheveled, but avoiding most punches and surprising with his chin.

To me he mailed it in as stated earlier. he looked old and out of shape. Retire.

Povetkin is an aging, faded fighter, and was further weakened by a severe case of Covid (he was hospitalized twice).

He should retire now.

I agree he needs to retire but thanks for some great memories. His career lasted longer than most boxers and he made us proud so many times.

I agree I missed this one live but downloaded a pirate copy and his punch resistance is gone now and he won't beat any elite contenders anymore and could be a stepping stone to even a Wardley type. If he kept his money he has no need to go down the route that Botha, the White Wolf and Samuel Peter have gone down in recent years.

Boxing has a history of faded former champions being served up to rising prospects and top ten fighters on the comeback trail and tragedies can occur ie the Greg Page near death in Kentucky for a pittance of money.

Congrats on his fine career. Wise to retire. I will always wonder why he fought the rematch with the side affects of COVID and not waited for a full recovery and a full training camp to be ready. Maybe he has bills to pay?

I'm glad he thought out his career arc and the potential long term health implications if he went the route of various heavyweight contenders and champions that fought on long past their career peak.

He is a guy who will probably remembered as somebody who could have been viewed historically greater if he didn't lose his prime years to the prime years of Wlad and to a lesser extent Vitali. He may go down historically as something like a modern Ezzard Charles type.

Povetkin would have put Wilder to sleep, but the Klitschkos were too big and too good.

That's why Wilder's handlers, with the assistance of the Las Vegas drug Nevada mafia drug testing crew, concocted that phony story about Povetkin being on drugs - "meldonium" - right before their scheduled fight in Moscow in 2016. Wilder knew in advance that he wouldn't have to fight Povetkin. He never even went to Russia. Wilder's handlers didn't want to lose their golden goose.

And the Pov-Wlad fight was Wlad's most disgraceful fight. He was hanging on to Pov like an octopus. He should have been warned and then DQ'd if he persisted.

Wlad lost a point for holding and hitting but by that point the fight was near impossible to lose on points as he had scored multiple knock downs against Povetkin.

Two knockdowns. The ref finally deducted a point from Wlad but not until round 11. I'm going to watch that fight again...
