Sasha stuns Huck late in the 11th round and had him wobbling back to his corner. Will he have enough energy to try for a fight saving ko in the 12th.

Great last round it looked like Rocky vs Apollo in Rocky I. Sasha had the first part of the round, Huck came on strong and had him wobbling near the end of the round. I think Huck won this but who knows what the judges saw. Also Pabon needs go back to refereeing amateur bouts, this was terrible work for a world class referee. He totally interfered with the flow this bout at critical times in the bout.

Wow the scoring was slightly wide for Sasha but I can see him nipping Huck in this fight. I had Huck win this one by 7-5 or 7-4-1.

Very good fight. Povetkin edges it.

Never thought I'd say this but Povetkin needs Teddy Atlas back!

Never thought I'd say this but Povetkin needs Teddy Atlas back!

Interview with Henry Maske, who is an excellent boxing analyst:

Maske says he knows Atlas and Teddy ignores the basics of conditioning and basics of style. Maske says the new trainer had no chance to turn that around in four weeks.

Teddy nearly ruined Povetkin. But now that he has a better trainer, he'll do better in his next fight.

"Povetkin needs Teddy Atlas back!"

The only place that needs Atlas back is the house of detention.

Couple of comments on the fight.

First of all let me say I am a fan of both of these fighters, and let me also congratulate Alex Povetkin for his win. It was a great fight to watch, lots of exchanges, lots of action, a very fan-friendly fight. Also very cool to see Art Abraham (Im a **HUGE** Art Abraham fan) at ringside.

I scored the fight 117-112 Huck. I gave Povetkin rounds 2, 3, 11, and I scored round 12 even. Thus my scorecard is 117-112 Huck. I will admit that some rounds could have potentially gone the other way (round 1 comes to mind as a `swing round`). I`d be happy if other guys from this site would post their scorecard round by round!

I am a Bosnian male, so it may also be possible that I am somewhat biased into scoring in favour of Huck (Huck is a Slavic Muslim born in Serbia. In effect you could say he is Bosnian-Serb). However, my impression from watching the fight, scoring aside, is that Huck won it.

Nobody is completely free of biases, and I admit that my score may be slightly biased towards Huck. However, trying to be as objective as possible, I firmly believe Huck won the fight. He was simply the better man in the ring tonight.

I also feel there were times in the fight when Huck was close to stopping or knocking out Povetkin. Rounds 7 and 8 were huge Huck rounds and quite honestly Alex appeared exhausted and staggered in those rounds.

I should also note that I was watching the fight socially with a friend having a coffee, and also my stream was not the best quality. So, if I was sitting down and studying the fight, not socially, Id probably have a more accurate score.

In any case, I dont feel Alex won the fight.
I think Huck won the fight. Perhaps it was closer than my score, but regardless, I believe Huck was the better man in the ring.

Im a HUGE Marco Huck fan because he is Bosnian and so am I. However, I am also a fan of him cause I like his arrogant attitude, brawling style, and dirty tactics. Marco ALWAYS makes a fun fight to watch and thats awesome, Im a big fan and he is great for German boxing.

Im also a big fan of Povetkin. I was very happy to see him KTFO Cedric Boswell some time ago. What a god damn knockout and Povetkin looked great in that fight. However, Povetkin did not look as sharp tonight as he did in that fight.

In any case, a great fight to watch. And this scoring PROVES decisions in Germany are fair. mean here you have an adopted German (Huck) losing a controversial decision to foreigner Russian (Povetkin)..

In any case, Im happy for both guys, its a great fight and probably both guys are winners in the sense it makes them more marketable.

Oh final note: WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO ANNIHILATES EITHER OF THE TWO, but I`d like to see Povetkin-Klitschko or Huck-Klitschko anyway, lol.

Most of all I am a supporter of the European boxing scene, and Sauerland always puts on terrific shows.

This was a great fight, great show, great prefight. Much better than the crap HBO shows. I dont even think Ill be bothered to watch HBo tonight (sh1tty black American fighters on sh1tty half assed productions against sh1tty club fighters).

I much prefer the Euro Boxing Scene and tonight was a great night.

Nights like this are why boxing is so huge and great in Europe! What a great event by Sauerland.

Huck is a very good fighter and if he can give Povetkin fits, then he certainly has a good chance against any heavyweight today not named Klitschko.

Also, did anyone notice how low Povetkin kept ducking to avoid Huck's rights?

Povetkin was lowering his head to almost his thigh-level. That is illegal, much akin to turning your back to your opponent. You're not supposed to lower your head past your waist line. The ref was being unfair by warning Huck for holding his head down.

Actually, Povetkni was at fault for ducking to such an extreme extent.

Ive seen Povetkin look a lot better in the past (Byrd, and Boswell fights probably his best), and tonight he seemed off.

I favoured Povetkin to win this fight, and I really thought he would have looked better. He didn't have the best night tonight, and he very easily could have lost the decision.

In any case, hopefully Povetkin can improve from here on.

I feel that perhaps Alex had an off night. He should have fought better tonight. He is an Olympic Gold Medalist and Huck is a guy who got started boxing a bit later on. Povetkin should have done better and I think he could have.

Essentially Im saying that Povetkin is better than what he showed tonight.

ALSO, I should note that Marco Huck got very lucky in his decision win over Lebedev. So, a robbery deserves a robbery I suppose. lol.

Povetkin started to breath heavily in the 5th round and looked exhausted. He kept eating Huck's jabs and didn't move his head as much as he used to.
He needs to get back in the shape he was against Sykes and Chambers or he will become an other Ruslan Chagaev who rely on his skills and experience but doesn't bother to be fit anymore.

Great fight though, i was hoping for a KO from either one as i smelt a controversial one.

Just watched most of this one on youtube, great brawl! After last weeks surgical performance by Doctor K it was great seeing two big heavies banging away. It certainly looked like Huck got the better of this one so he was definintely cheated on the decision. Povetikin certainly can take a lot of punishment, he even looked better at the end. Both these guys are better then most of the other heavies out there.

Hey BS2, a year ago I was talking to a co worker. The subject turned to boxing and Felix Sturm came up. He told me that Felix was Bosian. I thought he was joking. Then he told me his real name and sure enough, he was really Bosian, just took a German sounding like name to market himself better in Europe, specifically Germany. Then He told me he was Bosian. He is a great person and speaks 3 languages. Bosian, English and Russian. Sturm by the way has one of the best jabs in boxing. I wish he would step up and demand a fight with either Martinez or Chavez. I suspect he now thinks Chavez Jr has improved too much. A Sturm vs Martinez or Chavez fight would be huge in Europe.

Yes, Felix's birth name is Adnan Catic. He is a Bosniak (that is, white Slavic Muslim from former Yugoslavia) born in Leverkusen, Germany.

I'm a huge Felix fan and have been since I first saw him fight in 2003 or 2004 (quite a long time ago now, wow time flies) against Oscar De La Hoya. Felix was robbed that night. He then won some nice fights (picking up a title) in Germany before he was shockingly upset and knocked out by a 37-year-old Spaniard, Javier Castillejo. Credit where its due Felix got the rematch and won back his title.

Felix's career has thus been one of ups and downs. He's a very solid tactical fighter, but he is lacking some punching power, durability, strength, and stamina at times. You're absolutely right that he has one of the better jabs in the sport.

Although Felix Sturm is not A level like Klitschko's, Lebedev, Povetkin, Sergio Martinez, Joe Calzagher etc. He has been a titlist off and on since 2004, thats quite impressive. I also feel that he has beaten some decent opposition and should receive more credit from Boxing Media and American fans than he does. Felix is usually regarded as a "can crusher" and champion who fights bad opposition.

Yes, to an extent Felix has taken some easy fights but its no different than what many Black American Champs do. (ie Austin Trout). And atleast Felix wins his fights, and doesn't need the judges to rob other fighters (Cloud/Campillo, Cloud/Johnson, I thought Black American Tavoris Clkoud lost both of those fights).

Felix Sturm is very popular in Europe, he has a noted celebrity friendship with German footballer Lukas Podolski. Felix Sturm, along with the Klitschko Brothers, Art Abraham, and perhaps Marco Huck and Alex Povetkin are the biggest names in Boxing in Germany. A couple years back, an Abraham/Sturm fight would have been ***HUGE*** but it never happened. Thats boxing. At the time Abraham would have been significantly favoured to win, but now that Abraham has 3 losses, looking back, you'd probably have to give Felix a chance to outbox him.

Marco Huck technically is not Bosnian, because he was not born in Bosnia-Herzegovina. However, he is an ethnic Bosniak from an area in Serbia which has a high concentration of Muslims. So, you could say he is Slavic Muslim, Bosniak, or Bosnian-Serb.

Whats interesting if that you have foreign guys like:

Felix Sturm (Bosniak, real name Adnan Catic)
Marco Huck (Bosniak, real name Muamer Hukic)
Arthur Abraham (Armenian, real name Avetik Abrahamyan)

All boxing professionally in Germany, becoming boxing champions and being tremendously popular among the German boxing and sports fans.

Another interesting thing is that these foreign boxers have been accepted by German fans completely as their own, and in fact all 3 have German citizenship, in effect they are considered "German" even though they are not.

I like that and I think its nice, we should also remember that although these guys are not ethnic Germans, they are white and they are ethnic Europeans. So I think its nice that these foreigners have been accepted and become popular in German Society.

In fact, I read about a year ago that Art Abraham was being used by the German Government as an example of a successful immigrant, in that he achieved personal success coming from a poorer country, and accepted his German citizenship and adopted German status.

Its also interesting that most boxers involved in the German Boxing Scene are not actually German. Huck, Sturm, Abraham, Stieglitz, Klitschko Brothers, Michalczewski etc are all nonGerman.

The best ethnic German fighters of recent years would be Sven Ottke, and Edmund Gerber, heavyweight of today is a very good up and coming fighter.

Its very nice to see successful European immigrants coming to Germany, and integrating so well with the society. Changing one's name to a German form of their birth name is a nice gesture in that it shows you are willing to integrate into German Society.

Ok just viewed the entire Povetkin vs Huck fight on Youtube. A couple of things:

1. Either Huck is better than we thought or Povetkin is not as good as we thought. Maybe somewhere in the middle.

2. I had Povetkin winning by at least 2 or possibly 3 points. Alot of those Huck overhand rights never made contact with Povetkin's skull. No question, Povetkin won that fight.

3. Povetkin needs to find a top notch strength and conditioning coach ASAP, for his next fight. I am astounded that he was gassed from the 7th round on. It boggles my mind that an elite fighter thinks he can just think skill and power will carry the day. Yeah, if your fighting a bum or a guy with a glass jaw. The nightmare Alex had when Huck was still there after the 4th round. I just hope Povetkin hires an elite strength and conditioning coach.

4. I think Marco should go back to Cruiserweight. I don't think another can beat him there.

5. It was great looking at all the great looking white fans in attendence. Both combantants had an equal amount of fans cheering for them.

6. Considering that Povetkin had 20 lbs on Marco, it did not look like he was much bigger. Like I said, Povetkin needs to come into fights at 240 lbs in tip top condition to progress to the next level. Or he will look on the brink of getting KO'd like in this fight of the 12th rd.

Povetkin admitted after the fight that he took Huck way to lightly. AP is still the 3rd best HW right now. Off nights happen to every boxer and the great ones find ways too still win.

Povetkin must face Hashim Rahman within 120 days. Ridiculous but Povetkin should KO him early.

[h=1]Povetkin must face Rahman within 120 days[/h] After his all action win over Marco Huck, WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin will next make his WBA mandatory defense against #1 rated Hasim Rahman. The Rahman Camp agreed to step aside provided that the Povetkin-Huck winner face Rahman within a period not to exceed 120 days. Povetkin promoter Kalle Sauerland stated, “We will sit down with everybody to see what the future holds.”
Rahman’s #1 WBA rating is a topic of some controversy as the 39-year-old former WBC champion hasn’t faced a world rated opponent since losing to Wladimir Klitschko in 2008. WBA executive vice president Gilberto J. Mendoza addressed the issue Saturday night on Twitter. “I understand your feelings,” he tweeted, “but how can we deny the rights of a gentlemen who earned his status and earns a living boxing?”

Agreed, probably a little of both. We should keep in mind though, that Alex Povetkin is an Olympic Gold Medalist, has had hundreds of amateur fights. Marco Huck took up boxing much later, never competed extensively as an amateur, and doesn't have a strong youth and amateur boxing background like Povetkin.

So based on that I think its fair to imply that Povetkin SHOULD be dominating this fight and he SHOULD be able to beat Marco easily. In fact, he should be outclassing Marco based on their Amateur backgrounds. Marco Huck has a lot of technical problems and an elite fighter (like Klitschkos) would knock him out easily.

Povetkin will never be on the level of Klitschko's. And thats not to knock Povetkin, rather its to praise the Klitschko's. KBrothers are special and truly in a class of their own. The Povetkin's, Chisora's, Haye's, Huck's, Helenius's etc will never reach that level.

Povetkin/Rahman will be fun to watch, Im hoping Povetkin can knock this guy out (ala Cedric Boswell). I think Povetkin will do it ;)

Afterwards, I'd LOVEEEE to see Povetkin fight Helenius. That would be a great fight!

Let's not forget this fight was just about the money. Huck doesn't make the real big bucks at Cruiser and his days are numbered anyway with all the East Euros flooding that division. Povetkin wasnt even in good shape. It was an easy money fight for both.....
