it’s my opinion that this isn’t on the quarterback play at all. Gronowski had multiple perfect passes dropped, the offensive line gave him loads of time to throw, and the receivers simply weren’t getting open (and when they did, see the aforementioned drops).
i have concluded that the Iowa coaching staff either A) can’t evaluate wide receivers correctly, B) can’t coach wide receivers correctly, or C) both A and B.
as evidence, i present the case of Charlie Jones. as a Hawkeye, Jones was the best return man in the Big Ten, but he had something like 20 total catches. he transfers to Purdue, and promptly becomes the most dominant wideout in the conference and one of the top receivers in the whole country. things like that don't happen if a coaching staff knows what they’re doing.
