I was just channel surfing and the NFL Network is showing the Patriots-Colts AFC championship game from the 2006 season (played in January of '07). This is the game where the Colts and Peyton Manning came from way back to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots.
I tuned in just in time to see a Patriots kickoff return late in the third quarter by Ellis Hobbs, who went 80 yards only to be rundown, video game style, by Matt Giordano similar to the highlights video above (see how fast Giordano closed ground at the 1 minute mark if watching it).
Giordano made up a lot of ground to catch Hobbs, who was a cornerback while Giordano was a WSTD and backup safety during his career -- and the Colts were the relatively White friendliest team in the league at the time. Giordano was 5' 11" and 200 pounds, ideal size for a superfast cornerback but never had the opportunity. Just a reminder of how he was screwed over, as have countless other White defensive backs by the NFL.
Go to 1:17:45 of this video to see the kickoff I'm referring to. Phil Simms merely praised Giordano for his "hustle" while Jim Nantz said Giordano had the angle while actually Giordano made up ground to get that "angle" as Hobbs was running in a straight line down the sideline.
