Jack Hale ran 10.40 for 2nd with almost no wind.
I have to say, that's quite disappointing.

Yes he did but it was very cold. All the sprinters of both the men and the women ran horrible times. Eddie Osei-Nketia won and
he only ran a 10.30! I'm not making excuses for Hale as he has underperformed but I'm just reporting on the facts. Riley Day and
others really were alot slower than we are used to seeing. Australia has had some of the worst weather in about a century. Not good
for the sprinting times of other rack events.

Hale did open up the year with a 10.26 which is a little better for a base. I feel he has almost totally lost his confidence. When he races either
Browning or Osei Nketia he seems to be totally intimidated which is understandable. It's sad to see as he has so many physical skills but he might
not be mentally strong enough to compete with the big dogs. Hope I'm wrong as I would love to see him get back on track with faster times. It's just
looking more and more unlikely as the years fly by.

His slower times in the last 3 years could be from bulking up too much or it could be mental, it could be poor coaching/lack of funding,,, we as fans will never truly know unless he decides to tell. Luckily Aussie male sprinting is not like the US where there are many men who can run faster otherwise he would be an afterthought... In Canada we have no white males on our sprint teams... only transplanted Jamaicans...

I truly hope Jack Hale figures it out soon as I love watching this kid compete.

Great post sprintstar. I agree with everything you said. I miss the days of of sprinting in Canada with guys like Nicolas Macrozonaris and then Jared Connaughton later on. Both
of those sprinters were so fun to watch. It's sad to see a country with tens of millions of whites that ignore white sprinters in general. The only reasons are racism and stereotypes
against people of european ancestry. I hope we will see a few breakthrough in the future but with Dictator Trudeau I'm not very optomistic as he loves Critical Race Theory as well
as all of the other communist and globalist agendas.

Agreed. He ran 10.44 as a 16 year old. He's now 23.

Here is the race that he won in the cold rainy conditions. There is no doubt he has the talent. I believe it's a mental & emotional thing. He needs a visualisation
coach in my opinion. Even Matt Shirvington had one as at times he struggled with confidence. Hard to believe with Shirvo. It might help Hale.

On a more positive side of Jack Hale. He did run an All Time Australian 100 Yards Record in 2021 just one year ago! Here is the race for you guys.

I very often think he does well knowing he is the fasted guy in the race but he gets to races where he isn't the fastest he definitely runs slower....I agree it is most likely mental defeat as we all know he has the tools physically to run very low 10's. I truly hope he figures it out in the next year or so or he wont get the support he needs from the Aussie govie.

our 2 x 18 year olds battled it out for the 200 with a + 2.2m/s. Times were still very good for their ages as Calab Law beat Aiden Murphy 20.50 to 20.67.
The 100 had 3.4 m/s assistance but Jacob Despard , Hale's Tasmanian team mate, ran a 10.11 to beat Joshua Azzopardi 10.19, Eddie Nketia 10.24 and Jack Hale 10.27.
Totally unexpected that these two could upset Hale and Nketia

Another 18 year old, Jai Gordon just ran a legal 10.34. We're looking good for world juniors relay with him and Law and Murphy

Despards time equates to about a 10.28, Gordon is not far behind at 18 years old.

Five years ago, Zach Shinnick was a high school phenom, who won the California High School Championships in the 400m with a great time of 46.12.
He then won the USATF Junior Championships with an incredible time of 45.20 - 8th fastest 400m high school time ever.
Then onto USC where he battled injuries and faded from memory.
However, this past weekend he won the 200m at the Trojan Invitational with a solid time of 20.53 (0.8w).
So finally a great start to the season for Zach. Let's hope he stays healthy.

Jackson Webb will be in the 100 meters at the 2022 Texas Relays. Haven't seen him race this year yet. Hope he starts off his outdoors season with a fast time which
can be a base to build on. Happy to hear about Shinnick. Hope we hear from a few other guys at ASU and USC if not this year or next. Cole Beck will run the 100 at the Raleigh Relays.

Glad to see the University of Georgia finally gave Boling a few weeks of rest. If I were his coach I would not have him do any races until April He was overraced as usual
indoors. It's mainly that he is trying to be a swiss army knife on the track. While that's fun for a while, he will never be the best unless he gets down to 2 events. Give
up the 4 x 400, 400 meters and give up the long jump. It's not rocket science. Some elite guys only do 100 meters. Not saying he needs to go that far. He just needs to
focus on the 100 & 200 meters. If they do that he will be fine and the times will reflect that. Even young guys need rest as sprinting is so hard on your body. Then add
in the other events and it's amazing he hasn't had a serious injury yet. Hope they adapt and change things up outdoors. If not they are wasting one heck of a talent.

When I was little one of my coach's said if you want to be the best you have to pick one sport and just do that. The same with track. Only pick 1 or 2 events.

here we are with the Australian Champs about to start in Sydney - and the rains have come back again after a brief respite of 4 days. We've had 933mm (36.75 inches) of rain so far this year and the ground is saturated - with another 150mm (6") or so predicted right up till the 100m on Friday night 1st April and another 50mm for the 200 over that weekend.

I don't expect anything spectacular at all with the swirling winds that will accompany the rain

I see our old friend Emile Erasmus ran a 4th placed 200 metres in Cape Town this week. 21.28 (-3.3).
Maybe his final throw of the dice to make the SA team with lots of important meetings this year. He'll be 30 in April and has had injuries. Let's hope he goes out with a flourish

Here's his top 9 x 100m runs (his top 10 would average a shade over 10.10). 2017 and 2018 very obviously his best years but lack of competition during Covid years stalled his times and limited his runs. I hope he makes the Com Games team again.

USC Freshman Gavin Schurr who didn't race indoors at all opened up his outdoor season at the Texas Relays today. He ran a 10.37 but the wind was a little
too much so it's not going to be wind legal. He finished 3rd though and it's not bad for his first 100 meters since high school. I see big things in the next
3 to 4 years for Gavin Schurr. He has talent and the condidence to go with it. I can see him being a very well known name by the time he is a senior. Here
