Saint Mary’s, and their all-White starting five (and significant bench players), is still undefeated after knocking off nearly completely diverse Vanderbilt by 10 last night, 75-65.

for Vandy, the lonely oppressor was Minnesota transfer Liam Robbins, who played very well off the bench: 13 points (6-8 shooting) and 6 rebounds.

the Gaels had a trio of players who i want to single out for recognition. the offense runs through Mitchell Saxen, a 6-foot-10 junior who averaged a mere 7 minutes per game last year, in the post and Logan Johnson, a fiery scoring guard, on the perimeter. Saxen has turned into the team’s leading scorer and rebounder after a couple of years developing on the sidelines, while Johnson is capable of exploding on the scoreboard (or by losing his cool). Saxen finished with 19 (9-15 shooting) and 5 rebounds, while Johnson had 19 (7-10 shooting), 7 rebounds, and 8 assists.

the third player that really stood out to me on the offensive end is freshman point guard Aidan Mahaney. a long lead guard with as pure a stroke as you’re likely to find, Mahaney runs the offense with composure surprising in such a young athlete. he’s also incredibly smooth creating for himself or others off the dribble. he’s an early favorite to win WCC freshman of the year, in my mind. he led all scorers with 20 points (on 7-10 shooting) and hauled in 6 rebounds.

**********

Whitesconsin, er, Wisconsin has a defense that is out of this world. too bad they struggle to score. in their overtime loss to #3 Kansas, the Badgers overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to behind the superb effort of 6-foot-9 wing Tyler Wahl (23 and 9). at one point down the stretch, Wahl scored (i think) 11 straight to take the lead. freshman combo guard Connor Essegian looks like the real deal, too. and transfer Max Klesmit is a lockdown defender. sadly, the head coach loves black point guard Chucky Hepburn (who i can’t stand), who monopolizes the ball so much that it kills their offensive flow.

for the majority of the second half and overtime, Whitesconsin had 4 overachievers on the court at a time, and had 5 for a long stretch (when they made a big run).

unfortunately, Kansas got lucky when an air balled, desperation 3-point heave as time ran out was snagged under the backboard and slung up at the rim for a buzzer beating reverse layup by a guy who hadn’t scored the whole game, otherwise Whitesconsin fans would have an even happier Thanksgiving to celebrate. as it is, they’re CLEARLY better than the “experts” (who picked them to come in ninth in the Big Ten) think.

Purdue wins big again by a score of 80-68 over West Virginia. Purdue starts 4 white guys in their starting five! They are now ranked 24th in the
NCAA and should move up in the rankings soon. They played 10 guys today with 6 of them being our guys.

Zac Edey is NBA ready. Standing at 7'4 & 300lbs. He is very intimidating. Edey had 24 points, 12 rebounds 1 block and 1 steal to lead his team today.

Such a Wisconsin way to lose yesterday! Great breakdown as always JC! Ya "experts" had Wisconsin picked 9th in Big Ten. They did same **** to Wisconsin last season and they won a share of Big Ten Title.

I agreed on Hepburn! Lard ass, average athlete, and can't shoot a lick! He was supposed to take a big step up this season scoring wise. He's taken 2 steps back! Jordan Davis also stinks. (His twin has been regulated to G League for Wizards, because he can't shoot either.)

Tyler Wahl has been tremendous so far. Fun to watch, but guaranteed he'll get The Ethan Happ treatment. No NBA for that goy.

I guess we were pulling for Wisconsin, but another disappointment was the use of Gradey Dick. After scoring 9 first half points, I believe Dick only go one shot in the entire second half which he missed. He was a total nonfactor for most of the second half. Really disappointing after scoring a career high 25 the day before.

Watched quite a bit of this game. Obviously Edey's performance was impressive. BTW, he's Chinese in case you didn't know. I was equally impressed with the play of Freshman PG Braden Smith. He had 9 points, but also had 6 rebounds. Pretty darn good for the PG. Guy was all over the place.
HOWEVER, with all that said, I thought the best athlete out there was West Virginia guard Erik Stevenson. He has a beautiful shot and is equally as athletic. He led WVU with 17 points in 24 minutes. Anyone else notice this young man? Other than Edey, he may be the most NBA ready player out there, but probably won't get the chance.

Yes, I noticed Erik Stevenson for WV. He had a nice put back dunk, and Jay Bilas was effusive about his athleticism. Looked up his stats, he’s a 5th year senior on his 4th team. He’s 6’4” athletic and can shoot. However, if the NBA had any interest, I doubt he’d still be in college. It’s a shame.

I'd expect Dick to have a bounce back game. Wisconsin Defense is stifling, as always.

Enjoy reading all of y'alls rundowns and updates!

Purdue beat the Zags 84 - 69. It was interesting watching Zach Edey (23 pts 7 rebs) and Drew Timme (22 pts 9 rebs) continually talk to each other during FT attempts ; then attempt to block out the 7'-4" 300lb giant.

I know it's early in the season but it's great to see so many teams playing so many of our guys in the starting lineup and winning most
of these games against teams of the traditional caste lineups. We know from watching high school basketball that in a fair world we
could assemble many all white teams that could win a ton of games. Maybe the cracks in the damn are slowly forming.

The most exciting aspect of Purdue’s undefeated ALL WHITE starting lineup (we’ll count Zach Edey for simplicity’s sake despite his Asiatic mother) is their two true freshman, WHITE AMERICAN starting guards. SG Fletcher Loyer is a few inches taller than his prolific older brother at Davidson. But the most pleasant surprise is surely PG Braden Smith. Smith is listed at 5’10, 165 lbs, and apart from Purdue, only garnered scholarship offers from Toledo, Montana, and Appalachian State. He was ranked as the #196 player in high school and is currently running the floor for an undefeated Big Ten team that just ran Gonzaga off their own court. Loyer and Smith should be a flagship partnership in college hoops for the next four years!

i agree with these observations, except! ...

Purdue doesn’t start an all-White lineup, even if you count Edey. Mason Gillis is light, bright, and almost White ... but he’s not.

that being said, sophomore Caleb Furst plays a lot of minutes at the same position (which frequently creates an all-White lineup on the floor), and he’s one of ours.

Whoops! Good catch, I forgot to check that name against the roster page - I should remember Gillis from last year anyway. Kind of surprised that Furst is on the bench, as I think he started some games last year. He's still a sophomore though, and no need to mess with the formula at this point.

Way to go Purdue!

Next up for them is #6 Duke, who is lead by freshman sensation Kyle Filipowski. That game can be seen later today at 3:30 EST on ABC.

Watching some of the Purdue/Duke game and as impressive as Edey is, it's a joy to watch Duke 7' Filipowski. The guy is very mobile for his size. Dribbling behind the back and driving and shooting over/around Edey.
He could be special if he gets more aggressive. Purdue up 41-28. 3 minutes left in the first half.

I agree. Kyle Filipowski has NBA Skill as a freshman center for Duke. He may be one and done but I would prefer he comes back for another
year. At 7.0 and 230 lbs he is strong yet quick and agile. The all around type player. If I had to bet who would have the better nba career of
these 2 guys I would take Filipowski all day long. Edey will be far more hype as it pushes the international game but he seems more like
a Bryant "Big Country"Reeves as a comparisson. Good college player but his lack of speed and agility will hurt him in the nba i.m.o.

Also agree with that analysis of Edey WL. ...and as we speak Filipowski shows his shooting range with a 3 pointer. He has 11 first half points and 3 rebounds.

Purdue whips Duke 75-56. Edey 21/12, Loyer 18, Furst 11/10. PG Braden Smith 8 rebounds!
Furst very athletic 6'10 and Loyer a very good shooter, with Smith playing good at PG. Very impressive win for Purdue!

unranked Portland, and their all-White starting five (as well as 2 of 4 reserves) gave #18 Michigan State all they could handle today before falling by one, 77-78.

Tyler Robertson, a do-it-all 6-foot-6 guard for the Pilots was the best player on the floor. the junior finished with game-highs of 16 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists (and only 1 turnover!), 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot in 37 minutes.

Joey Hauser played very well for the Spartans, finishing with 14 points (on 5-11 shooting) a team-high 7 rebounds, and 4 assists (albeit with 3 turnovers) as their lone representative of the overachieving variety.

Jack Nunge bounced back from the worst game of his career in a big way, almost carrying Xavier to the upset win over Gonzaga. the 7-foot Iowa transfer scored a game-high 25 points (on 11-16 shooting), pulled down 6 rebounds, had 2 assists, a steal, and a blocked shot with only 1 turnover in 33 minutes. his fellow front court teammate, Zach Freemantle also played well, scoring 14 points (on 6-12 shooting), pulled down 4 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots.

Drew Timme had 16 (on 7-15 shooting), 6 and 7 (but with 7 turnovers! yikes!) in the win.

formerly almost-forgotten (because of “real” talents who came into the program) sophomore forward Ben Gregg has emerged as a playmaker in the last two games. against Xavier, he pulled down 6 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, and hit a 3-pointer in 13 minutes. hopefully, he continues to get increased playing time, since he’s shown that he produces when he gets on the floor.

The AZ Wildcats are back in action tonight against Utah. The Utah Utes are sitting at 5-2 so it could be an entertaining game.
I'm sure U of A will win but I hope for some good battles on the court in an action packed game. U of A is still undefeated and
ranked in the top 5 in the country.

Glad Utah won as they had 4 Whites athletes starting. Arizona is still highly ranked, so I hope to see the Utes crack the top 25.
