hmmmm 45.51 400m indoors? I wonder if he can hurdle? It would be quite interesting to see what he could with the outdoor 400m hurdles.

  • Boling’s run was reminiscent of his highschool runs where he dominated fields. He’s starting to dominate in college the way he did in highschool. Very impressive and promising.

Even though we neglect the field events far too much on this track discussion board I had to mention this. A new world record in the shot put by Ryan Crouser! :)

https://www.watchathletics.com/arti...-broke-the-shot-put-world-record-with-22-82m/

great news! It'll give Tom Walsh, our NZ cousin, a shot in the arm (although neither NZ nor Australia have any indoors competition in track or field).

I love SP - that world champs result in Doha was the best competition ever - Kovacs 22.91 last round, Crouser 22.90, Walsh 22.90. And, contrary to the 100m, a good Shot competition has so many good moments in its movie length timeframe.
Spare a thought for Brazilian Romani with 22.53 for 4th.

Another day and another big win for Matthew Boling. He just won the 200 meters indoors in the 2nd fastest time in the U.S. running a blistering 20.53! :)

meanwhile on the other side of the pond (in Austria) 18 year old Brit Keely Hodgkinson set a world under 20 WR taking it down to 1.59.03.
At the same meeting two Dutch 6 footers, Femke Bol and Lieke Klaver set new Dutch indoor 400 records just 3 minutes apart. Klaver ran 51.48 while Bol reduced that further to 50.96

https://worldathletics.org/news/report/hodgkinson-smashes-world-u20-indoor-800m-record-in-vienna

THEN, they both ran a 200m with Bol just outside the Dutch record and Klaver smashing it to go 23.17.
This last year's "rest" season seems to have gone well for many athletes

Devin Quinn (remember him?!) ran an outstanding 6.59 60m in France this weekend!!
Silvan Wicki of Switzerland, who emerged on the scene last year, ran a 6.61 this weekend, as did Kevin Kranz of Germany.
Denis Almaz ran 6.65
Matthew Boling didn't perform well in the 60m finals in Arkansas. He was beaten by among others, another white guy, Gaston Buchereau of Oregon.

On the women's side, Ajila Del Ponte, also of Switzerland, ran a very good 7.16 in the 60m.

That's a new PB for Quinn, I think. I believe his best 60 in college was 6.64. That is five tenths. You know what this means. His PB for the 100 is 10.01, so we should sub 10 this summer.

Looks like Christophe kicked off his Olympic season. Gonna be interesting to see if he has enough left in the tank to make France's squad or relay pool.

. . . . Not with those times.
You got that right, maybe he is just "warming up" but you would think 6.6X would be something he could work with if he wanted a realistic chance of doing anything in the Olympics beyond being a relay pool runner.

If you go to 7 minute mark in this video you can watch Quinn and Lemaitre go head to head in the heats of the 60m race in France.
10 years on (or more), and Christophe still has one of the worst starts in professional track.

Go to the 11:30 mark to watch Lemaitre run in the 'B' final. His start is better, but guys run past him mid race.

At the 15 minute mark, you can watch Quinn win the 'A' final in 6.59.
He looks strong and fast.

Quinn looks great. I was suprised to see Taftian not run a little faster but it's so early in the year.

Bryce Hoppel, the fast rising star in the 800m, opened up his indoor season with an amazing 1:44.37, which is the 2nd fastest time ever by an American, and just .15 off the American record.
You can read about and watch the race here:
https://www.watchathletics.com/arti...7-for-the-800m-misses-american-record-by-0-15

Another rising 800m star is Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain.
She recently destroyed the World Jr. Record (Under 20yrs old) by 2 Full Seconds!!
Her time was 1:59.03.
You can read about and watch the race here:

no, and he never seems to have a natural smile - indicating it's not a pleasure to do what he does?? What could we have seen if he was a relaxed person?

So true!
We are all super excited about Matthew Boling's natural sprinting talent, but Lemaitre was every bit as talented and fast as Boling at the same age. Maybe even faster.
I hope Boling can fulfill some of the promise that Lemaitre left behind.

Oliver Bromby of Great Britain, who was a star as a junior, is now showing some promise as a senior.
He won the 60m in Ostrava today with a good winning time of 6.65.
Dominik Kopeć of Poland and Jan Veleba of the Czech Republic were 2nd and 3rd, with the same time of 6.67.

Pavel Masak won the 400m in a good time of 46.22.
