At one time in the 90's and early 2000's Australia had a few men that made World Championship 200m finals. You would think one of this cohort could have nipped the record. Patrick Johnson made a final in this event in this time period and he ran sub 10 during this period, yet he never got to a sub 20.
I know Shirvington typified the "lazy" 100m runner as his pb in the 200 was significantly slower than his 100m pb.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I ran track in high school and first year of college. I was also in a rock band and I stopped doing track and dropped out of college(big mistake)Band went nowhere....Got back into track when I started coaching kids track in 2006. I had this kid who was a big mouth but fast, he thought because I was at least 25lbs overweight he could egg me on. So one day I said screw it and said lets go over 60m, he laughed and said sure. One of the other male sprint coaches(who was a competitive masters aged sprinter) also wanted to race, so we went: I was ahead at 60m by 3 strides over the 17 yold big mouth and at least 5 strides ahead of the other coach, that's when I realized I was still fast. Well I have been competing ever since. PB's at 18 were 10.5 100m 20.65 200m 4.49 40 too small (5'9" 150lbs) for football, not fast enough to go past college in track lol BUT now fast enough for Masters track lol still the same height but I am abit heavier at 180lbs.Yes but never in school. I played sports my whole life but got into track/sprinting after I was out of school. What about yourself?

I also have about 30years for martial arts training in Kickboxing, Karate, Tai Kwan Do and Hapkido although haven't trained in years as I started track, it is my passion now.
MasterMulti is or was also a Masters Track athlete if memory serves.
I agree completely. I think staying lean is crucial for not only athletic performance but overall health as you age. Carrying too much weight is just too hard on the body. The biggest obstacle in staying fit for track especially sprinting during your 50/60/70's is keeping the weight off especially around the gut. When I won Silver at the 2008 Canadian Masters T&F Championships in the 100m I was around 175lbs and ripped at 48 years old, no weight training just hard work in training sessions as well as food intake was smart. Being overweight equals: bad core, bad endurance/cardio, sore knees, hamstring issues and the dreaded shinsplints. Love to hear others opinions.
