I noticed that as well. Strange.
I think it's just an off year for many European athletes. Europe was hit hard with virus shutdowns, and it seems every European sprinter is having an off year, whether they are U23 or competing as seniors. There are some other bright spots, but the European sprinters are way off this year.
In fact, the only sprinter who went sub 10.10 is Rowan Browning, and apparently he's been abducted by aliens because nobody's seen him since April.

LOL I know ..... how on earth can that possibly lead to a good showing at Tokyo (shaking my head) racing these race toughened opponents - unless he's racing those aliens ...... so maybe one half reasonable run in Tokyo and he'll be done. Probably a 10.30 into a wind <sigh!>

Hana Basic : Heat 11.27 (0.0), Final 11.16 (1.8) PB

Her effort to race in Europe looks to have netted rewards and confirmed Athletics Australia's trust in her. The mind and body adjusted to the new conditions.
I haven't yet found the results of the meet but these would have been forwarded home by her personal team so they'd be legitimate

Hana finished 2nd in the race won convincingly by German lass Alexandra Burghardt with a big PB of 11.01 (down from 11.14 set 4 weeks ago).

a THRILLING race in the women’s 400m at the European u23 championships, with the first SEVEN finishers setting personal-bests!

our girls took all three medals, with a VERY close finish for gold-silver and then another eyelash separating bronze-fourth.

Alexandra Burghardt running an wind legal 11.01 is epic! Germany has had many elite white female sprinters even recently. Two off the top of my head are Verena Sailer and
the 24 year old Gina Luekenkemper who went sub 11 when she was only 20 years old. She went to college in the U.S. last I heard and has not raced much since. What
a shame as she had so much talent. The German women also have three other
sub 11.20 sprinters in Tatjanto Pinto, Lisa Mayer and Jennifer Montag. After that they have Lisa Nippgen & Rebekka Haase right in that range too. The German Womens
Relay Team will be a force in the Olympics.

With 11.01 seconds, the sprinter even scratched the "100-meter sound barrier" at the meeting in Bulle on Saturday. Alexandra Burghardt is getting in better shape just before the Olympics. The German 100-meter champion from the LG Gendorf Wacker Burghausen increased her best performance by 13 hundredths to 11.01 seconds (+1.8 m/sec) on Saturday afternoon at the Meeting de la Gruyère in Bulle (Switzerland).At 11.13 seconds, she had already been ahead of her best time at the German Championships in Braunschweig. "Oh my God, what just happened," Alexandra Burghardt wrote on Instagram after the race. To assign the time: In European comparison, this year only the European triple champion Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain) was faster than the 27-year-old. At the same time, it is the best time of a German sprinter in three years. At the Euro 2018 in Berlin, Gina Lückenkemper (SCC Berlin) was 10.98 seconds below the eleven-second mark in both the semi-finals and the finals. Some impressive performances (to me) at the Euro U23 Championships today were:

Dalia Kaddari winning the 200m in a very impressive time of 22.64. 3rd fastest time by a European this year.
She is a very smooth (and fast runner).

Allesandro Sibilio of Italy winning the 400m hurdles in an exceptional time of 48.42, while celebrating over the last 15 meters. The championship record is held by WR holder Karsten Warhom, 48.37. Sibilio could have broken that record if he didn't celebrate in advance, and had run hard through the finish.
As it is, his time is the 4th fastest European this year.
He is another very smooth runner.

Ricky Petrucciani of Switzerland won the 400m in 45.02. 2nd fastest time by a European this year.
This guy has been improving steadily.

Pia Skrzyszowska won the women's 100m hurdles in 12.77. 5th fastest European this year. She is also a 100m sprinter, and I think she could have medaled in that event as well.

I expect these four to be standout performers at the senior level in the future.

Nice for him to go up to the nice, warm sunshine 3,000 kms north.. Sydney has been around 60F and raining for the past 2 weeks. Let's trust in his coach's ability to peak him on time. I think he can approach 10 flat with good weather and and nice tailwind but of course there's no guaranteeing either. Wouldn't sneaking his way into a semi be nice?

our only women sprinter in the 200, Riley Day, ran a 11.31 PB (1.3) at the same meet in Cairns, northern Queensland, and a nice still wind 22.82 200m.
Too bad we don't have 2 of her (she runs a very nice bend) and 2 of Hana to run a relay

Best news of the day by far! He looks like Thor only with dark hair instead of blonde hair. Maybe he can get one more run before Tokyo. I would advise it but with better competition. There is a
huge difference between pressure and no pressure. Prepare the young man at all levels before the biggest Dream Track Meet of his life!

our old friend Guliyev runs at Sotteville, Paris in about 3 hours time. Let's see how he's faring. He's up against Divine Oduduru with a season best of 19.88. Should be a pointer to where he's at!

I dont know if anyone posted thgis but Shae Anderson was nominated to go to the Tokyo Olympics as part of the relay pool. If she runs in the heats and the US team medals she will receive a medal as well! On a side note Andersons times in the 400mh and 400m would have won both races at the Euro under 23's

As I hadnt seen the 400mh finals at the under 23's I watched it a few times. First off the Polish women rock, the French negro athlete looked shocked and pissed off, Zoe Sedney eased off at the finish and just hung on for 4th, I think she realized she would not medal and gave up with about 5m to go.

It's normal for most guys to slow down in their 30's. Unless your doing those magical yams. I wonder where Gatlin gets his from? Lol. So many cheaters worldwide.

If it's Ramil Guliyevs Swan Song so be it! He gave us some of the track thrills of a lifetime. Absolute legend! No one can argue what he has accomplished!

yes, I was thinking perhaps he's recovering from injury - injuries happen more often, get harder to overcome as the accumulation of scar tissue takes away elasticity and flexibility.

I'm hoping for a lot from Ash Moloney in Tokyo. He's now 21, a bit young to be among the world's best decathletes, but over 90kgs and around 6'4". And can sprint for a big ld as evidenced by his 100 and 400 here. I wonder where he can improve this outing?
