2021 Track Season Results

In a southern California meet yesterday, Hannah Cunliffe took 2nd in the 100m in 11.20.
Mary Beth Sant (Price) was 3rd in 11.32. The wind was only 0.6w.
Good performances by both, and glad to see Mary Beth improving!

In another southern California meet Corey Crawford jumped 8.05m (26' 5") to win the long jump.
Crawford had a good long jump career at Rutgers, but had been pretty quiet until recently.

Some women's sprint news out of Germany...
Lisa Mayer, opened her season with an 11.12 PB and, I believe, an EL!
Haase was second in 11.21, followed by Nipgen 11.25, Montag 11.28 and Burghardt 11.29.

Haase also won the 200m in 22.97 with Burghardt 2nd in 23.00.

Jackson Webb just ran an nice time of 10.26 in the prelims of the 100 meters at the Big 12 Championships. Hope to see him step it up in the finals tommorow.

Cole Beck just went off! He ran a new personal best time of 10.11 +1.6 wind! Yes this is a huge breakthrough for him!!! :)

I wonder whether Boling can better Beck's time?
I don't think he is going to win the 100m (Laird outran him on the relay), but I would like to see just how fast he is at the moment.

Here's the race:

Boling 9.97 with 3.2 wind. 2nd place.

The 200m is later this evening. Let's see if he can turn the tables on Laird.

Hard to be sure at this angle, but it looks like Boling got a bad start and had to run down half of the field, with the exception of Laird.

I'm happy to see Boling dip under the 10 second mark even though it was not a legal time with too much wind. It still shows for a 2nd time that he has the turnover necessary to go sub 10 wind legal eventually. The only reason Laird is at a higher
level is he is older, smoother and more experienced. T.Laird is so smooth. Boling will be in the near future. He is a perfectionist. This loss is gonna sting for a long time. Not just that he lost but by a big margin for the 100 meters. This is actually
good to make Boling tougher. Overall he handled himself very well and ran a world class time even with the wind. Boling has shown he belongs. I hope he can get a better start in the 200 meters as he left too much ground to make up in the 100 and
very few sprinters on eartlh would be able to chase down Laird.

Boling gets 3rd in the 200m, with a new PB time of 20.06.

wow! every single participant in that race went sub-21. those guys were FLYING!

a great 200. Laird, the stand-out, but three other world class performances in the same race. How the rest of us envy the depth in the U.S.! Good for Boling - Laird is sure a good "someone" to have to chase

Keep in mind Laird is 22 years old while Boling is still 20. That's a big difference regarding time to develop. Yes, Boling's start in the 100 was really bad. With a 2.0 wind he would have still gotten like a 10.05. I think he could still go sub 10/20 before the season is over given the right circumstances/conditions. When someone blows you away like that out of the blocks, it's natural to struggle and run too tightly.

Does anyone here know the status of Cole Beck's football career? I read he had a 4.29 40 coming into college and has spent some time playing running back.

Cole Beck gave up football and decided to concentrate on track.
His ACC Championship win, and very fast time is a great F You! to the coaches at Virginia Tech who didn't give him a fair shake.

If you go to about halfway in this video, you can watch Cole Beck win the 100m, followed by a nice interview with him.

At the Pac 12 Championships, Harrison Schrage of UCLA was the 2nd leading qualifier in the 200m.
Usually he is a long jumper. His time was 20.81. . . .

Harrison won the Long Jump - 25' 7-1/2" (7.81m)

Yep Boiling has a horrendous start in the 100m. Looks like a slight mistep as well in his drive phase. Definitely shaking at the end and was flying! Better start, no mistep and he is a lot closer to Laird at the finish, possibly winning. He is tough as nails! A little concerned with Laird, he runs 20.21? indoors and is cranking 19.8’s outdoors, not so sure about this half second gain.

Thank you jacknyc. You took the words right out of my mouth. Cole Beck shocked the world today and he is only a junior. Forget next season. Let's see what he can do at the NCAA National Track & Field Championships!

I was watching the Cole Beck 100 meters video, and is it me, or did he stumble or misstep about 4 meters out of the blocks.
