2021 Track Season Results

Hi all....new here....to the point regarding matthew boiling ....his form seems to be worse, he is running tense, he seems not to be used to being behind....fix that form and relax....in 1-2years 9.90 and 19.75 will be achievable...look at laird running, very very relaxed and smooth, runs with confidence. Also, Matt needs to give up the long jump. Not helping.

Zachary Jewel came 2nd in the finals by 1/100 of a second - damn!
His time was 10.12 with 2.3w.
However he did come back to win the 200m.
 
Here is the Cole Beck 100M race. That is really very impressive! And it does look like a slight stumble and start..
 
watching the Cunliffe race from yesterday and can't help but notice that MB Sant's arm motion is as bad as Boling's was in the 200m, it is like a soccer players armswing.

Thanks for sharing this vid! I hadn't heard of Cole Beck before. Maybe it's the camera angle, but he looks like a man among boys with his height and frame. I'm reminded of NFL receiver DK Metcalf running at the recent Olympic trial, but instead of coming in last place at 10.37, Beck finished first at 10.11 seconds.

The announcer mentions that he used to play college football at Virginia Tech. Apparently, he was a 3-star running back and #16 prospect in the state, which seems a bit low for a three-time winner of the 4A state track meet in the 100m and 200m. Cole picked VT so he could play both sports. The official story is that he missed his freshman football season with a collarbone injury and decided to stick to track after completing his first track season. It's easy to imagine the lone white running back being gently nudged off the roster, but it's also hard to imagine how the football coaches wouldn't work to incorporate that physical talent.

Even in track the scouts and coaching staff on a regular basis discriminate against white kids. They try to keep whites from participating in the sprints and push them into the longer distances or the field events. The perception is so strong that a family
has to really push back to get their kids a fair shot. Even with Matthew Boling he was in other events. When he ran the 100 meters in his senior year of high school it was the first time he had run that event since the 7th grade. If they do that to a guy like
Boling you can imagine how hard it is for any white sprinters to get a fair chance. I will say this though. The clock doesn't lie and it always makes me smile when guys like Cole Beck become champions. Just in the last 5 years or so we have had a few
guys break through. John Teeters ran 10.00 wind legal. He has since given up track which really is a travesty. Devin Quinn is the All Time Big Ten 100 Meter Record Holder running a wind legal 10.01 as well. At least he is continuing to run track
professionally. I really hope he can make the US Olympic Team. Even to be on the 4 x 100 Relay Team would be great but I'm hoping Quinn can go to even greater heights.

Do you think if he gave up the long jump it would greatly improve his 100 and 200 times?

this is an excellent observation, in my opinion. Boling looks to me as if he isn’t running his race but rather trying to force the issue. he doesn’t look to be as smooth as he was earlier in his career. i obviously don’t know if it’s because of the pressure or the adjustment to his new mass/strength or what, but even with this struggle he’s still improving. i’m confident he will continue to improve, as his attitude is on point.

give credit where it is due. Laird looks like the best in the world at the moment, and he is an absolute technician with ZERO wasted movement in his race.
 
Shae Anderson finished second in the women's 400mh, she was leading with about 40m left but could not hold off the winner. Anderson's time was a very respectable 55.21. Third place went to Shannon Meisberger/Arizona in 57.00, Cho finished 6th.
 
i don’t think it’s been mentioned, but Jackson Webb took third in the Big 12 Championships on Sunday with a 10.29. first place ran a 10.26 while 7th place ran 10.38, so it was a VERY tight, competitive race.

Webb has made HUGE strides in his times this indoor/outdoor season, so i hope he doesn’t shut down his track career just because he’s a collegiate senior.

Jackson Webb had a great season but Zachary Jewell might be even a little better. I would love to see both of them continue their athletics career but it's not an easy way to make a living. You have to eat right, avoid injuries, travel
constantly and try to improve drastically. I've often said that more of these kids should transfer their citizenship to a country in Europe where they can easily make a national team and possibly make a very nice career running abroad.

that’s a good point. unfortunately for Jewell (the correct spelling has two “L”s), most of his outdoor races have had too much wind to be legal times. on the bright side, he is consistently dropping fast times. it’s good to see, especially after what looked like a serious hamstring injury during his indoor season.
 
correction for Golden Spike date - It's Wednesday, not Thursday - date of 19th is correct
I wonder if any of the Europeans can beat ol' man Gatlin?
 
Unfortunately, I don't think any of the other entrants stand a chance against Gaitlin.
But I'm interested to see how Silvan Wicki performs, and also Van Gool.

I like Silvan Wicki and he is 26 now so he should be in his prime years. Also Van Gool who is ony 23 years of age and already has run 10.16 at a young age and let's not
forget 25 year old Jan Voko with a 10.13!
 
And of course, super interested to see how Dafne Schippers performs.
I'm always hoping that she will recapture her old, championship winning form, but it does seem that those days may be over.
Still, she's always a contender.
Let's see how she opens her season.
 
our guys ran a very competitive 100m race in Ostrava today, and all but one of them set season’s-bests, though they were all well off the top two finishers (Kerley and the obviously-cheating Gatlin).

wow. Despite plenty of time to prepare and running in their own continent the European athletes are so comprehensibly beaten by visiting Americans. A nice 1.7 tailwind and the best Euro gets 10.28 :(
Fred Kerley just starts perfecting his 100 metre races in 2021 and there's another sub 10 for him. That 400 endurance and strength is being put to good use.
 
These certainly weren't the top sprinters that Europe has to offer. Also, the Europeans start their outdoor season much later than the Americans.
Probably this was the 1st or 2nd race for these guys this season.

I would agree that that 400m strength really helps Kerley and others in the short sprints.
Let's not forget that Matthew Boling was still training as a 400m runner while running sensational 100m times in high school.

2021 Ostrava Track Meet:

Men’s 800 metres:

Max Burgin won his first Continental Tour race smashing his PB with an impressive world seasonal best of 1:44.14 one day before his 19th birthday. The 2018 European Under 18 champion improved Yuriy Borzakovskiy’s 21-year-old European under 20 record of 1:44.33.

Burgin pulled away from the rest of the field after the 400m to take a huge lead in the second lap. Tony Van Diepen from the Netherlands took second place in 1:45.36 edging last year’s Golden Spike 800m winner Jake Wightman (1:45.47).



German record holder Johannes Vetter highlighted the 60th edition of the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava with a world seasonal best of 94.20m in the first round. Vetter produced the third biggest throw in his career.

The 2017 world champion also produced his second-best throw of 91.33m and three more throws over the 88 metres barrier (88.53m, 88.47m, 88.45m). Vetter beat reigning world champion, Anderson Peters, from Grenada, who set his seasonal best of 83.39m in the sixth round to finish runner-up ahead of Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott (82.75m).
